  1. Overton and Brentwood are in 6AAA. Districts 9 and 10 AAA make up region 5AAA.
  2. The game actually didn't move us at all. We are locked into 6th anyway no matter what happens Friday. I was saying that Portland better wake up and get better guard play or Springfield will be playing in two weeks and Portland will be left out. I think everyone knows that Portland should have been in the top two or three teams. Unfortunately, potential does not decide district standings.

    Metro Jobs?

Pioneer, like most TSSAA rules, Metro has tougher versions to follow. In Metro, you have to be a certified teacher to be a head coach. You can be a certified non-faculty assistant which would include those grandfathered in by past experience. You see, if there is ANYONE employed as a metro teacher that applies for the job, they have to be hired over non-teaching people.

    Bench press

Redbaron, there is no way that 279 is the record at Hendersonville. I was the judge in about 1989 when a defensive back from Hendersonville named Todd Fuqua cleaned 280 in the McGavock Superlift. Surely, you have had a lineman do better than a d-back. I believe he signed with South Carolina, but didn't stay long.
  5. Isn't that the same Portland that lost to East Literature on Friday night? Springfield controls their own destiny with their games this week. Portland is in 5th.

    Bench press

Vols4me, since olympic lifting involves a lot of pulls it easily keeps the back and rear delts up to par. Many schools I have seen work the bench like crazy and merely go through the motions on cleans and squats. Form on cleans is atrocious and squat depth is usually non-existant. I just think the bench is WAY over-emphasized. [Edited by bigchief on 2-14-03 12:50P]
  7. Sounds like the pot calling the kettle black.
  8. The only Jethro I know is from some town where they put dresses on mules and have a parade. Where are you from again?
  9. It is more like the talented players can't adjust to it. It takes a disciplined player to succeed. Many of today's "stars" are undisciplined and lazy, ie. Swader. If you knew anything at all about the Lipscomb "system" you would no how much it has evolved since the 1986 national championship. Coach Meyer changed with the game. He adapted to the 3pt. shot and the shot clock as they were integrated into the game and used them to his advantage all within the "system". If you don't think guys like Darren Henry and Kenyatta Perry were talented, then either you don't know anything about basketball or are just stupid. I didn't enjoy playing within its confines either, but you can't argue with its success. At least not intelligently.
  10. His grandson is no Josh Stephen, either. So what? [Edited by bigchief on 2-11-03 9:07A]
  11. NCSfan. While I can appreciate your enthusiasm for the first decent season at NCS in 20 years, you are still WAY out of line thinking you could handle Lipscomb. Beating Jo Byrns an Houston Co. is one thing. The only way you stay within 30 of DLHS is if Coach Roller is feeling generous to the old legend. Enjoy your single A success for what it is and keep your ego in check. And no, I have no ties to Lipscomb High School whatsoever.
  12. Go to the TSSAA website and look up the past champions in softball. You can really only compare A and AA since there are no private schools in AAA and no Public schools in D2. As far as domination, is it by one private school or are all public schools dominated by privates? I guess it depends on how you look at it. If you go only by state championships, then obviously privates have had the upper hand. However, I have always competed against these schools (winning and losing). I can see where they could have an advantage against a community school with limited players and facilities, but that always just made me want to work harder to prove it could be done.
  13. The only reason he just scored his 1000th point is because he missed most of last year injured. I agree with you. He is a fine player. He doesn't get much notoriety even when he drops 30+ on everyone. He was "held" by Brentwood to 19. That was his season low. Unfortunately, he does not have much help. He is also an outstanding student and even better kid. He seems to think baseball is his better sport. Some school could get a two sport steal with him. Check your boxscores each game night and see what he has done night in and night out.
  14. No, He was suspended for the first 8 games of his junior year for that infraction. He chose to go to Oak Hill for better competition and to focus on his grades/test score.
  15. Do you have ANYBODY else that can score at all?
  16. I know he is teaching one class. Steen is a fine pitcher and I am sure they will be at the top of 12AAA. Unfortunately, I am not in that district anymore. My road is just a LITTLE tougher now. I like the challenge, though. Good luck.
  17. All that detective work for nothing. Eyewitness accounts are still pretty solid in court. Even with a questionable source. See you on the field.
  18. Coach Roche's memory is fading. It might have been 2001, but it was NOT 2000! I know him pretty well myself. I talked to him Friday, Saturday, and Monday night. I guess all this free time he has during the day makes his mind wander. Since he beat MY TEAM in the district finals we went to Brentwood and lost 3-2 in the bottom of the 7th. Hunters Lane lost at home to OVERTON. As I said before, it may have been in 2001, but it was not 2000. [Edited by bigchief on 1-30-03 5:42P]
  19. Fpf, I honestly don't know. I was "out of the loop" during that time. If they did, my apologies to the lady rebels. See you this spring.
  20. govolz, you are wrong as well. Hunters Lane did not beat Franklin in the region in 2000. They lost their first round game to Overton. They beat Mcgavock twice out of the loser's bracket to win the DISTRICT. Then they lost to Overton. Franklin has not gotten out of that district since at least '96. In '97 McGavock won the district and lost to Overton, HLHS was district runner-up and went to Brentwood. In '98, McGavock won the district and beat Centennial in the 1st round and lost to Brentwood in the region final and Beech in the sub-state. Brentwood had eliminated HLHS two days before in the 1ST ROUND! In '99, Hunters Lane won the district and Antioch was the runner-up. I believe HLHS won their 1st round game that year, then lost in the region final and sub-state, but I am not positive. Why don't you ask Coach Roche since you can't except FACTS from me even though I was there for all of it. Also, for your information there are 2 rounds in the REGION, not the district. It has 3. [Edited by bigchief on 1-30-03 12:28P]
  21. Red Baron you are wrong. In 2000, Hunters Lane lost in the region to Overton and McGavock lost to Brentwood. Franklin hasn't had a good team since Brittney Ezell graduated, although Naomi Fitzgerald was really good. I can't remember what Hunters Lane did in '99, but Antioch lost in the 1st round. I know McGavock beat Centennial in'98 and lost in the sub-state to Beech while HLHS lost to Brentwood. [Edited by bigchief on 1-30-03 10:16A] [Edited by bigchief on 1-30-03 2:05P]
  22. C'mon guys. This district is WEAK. The only games Hunters Lane has to play are McGavock and maybe Antioch. The others (Pearl Cohn, Stratford, Glencliff, Maplewood and Whites Creek are laughable at best. When was the last time a team from this district won a region tournament game? 1998 or 1999? You have 10 guaranteed wins to start the season.
  23. The bottom line is Lipscomb plays very well TOGETHER. Portland is a five piece fragmented puzzle. Sure, Portland has more natural talent, but it is not utilized to the betterment of the team. Corey Brewer is an unpolished gem. Potential is the word for him. He has in no way reached his. He is not being used to help his team succeed. He is instead put out on the wing where he is not a particlularly good shooter (although he thinks he is). With Ferguson and the other big post, PHS could cause some real match-up problems with someone posting up with a smaller defender. Instead Portland does everyone a favor and puts him on the wing. He may play out there in college, but it is not helping your team succeed now. That is the bottom line. DLHS by 8.
  24. Nothing good is easy. You have to pay the price for glory. If you don't have it in you to make sacrifices of your time to improve yourself and your team, then don't play. Church league doesn't practice. There is your answer. B-BYE. [Edited by bigchief on 1-28-03 6:51A]
