  1. The Bottom line is Clinton won. Every team has tough schedules and injuries. As for your comment that Farragut would win by 20 and is the 3rd best team in the district, that's an opinion. Here is how I would rank the region teams: 1) Oak Ridge 2) Bearden 3) Winner of tonight's Clinton/Powell Game 4) Loser of tonight's Clinton/Powell Game 5) Heritage 6) Farragut 7) Maryville 8) West
  2. Private schools have no business playing Single A basketball. I have no problem with private schools playing in public classification in Class AA and AAA, but not in single A. If private schools want to compete in public league, then AA and AAA basketball will provide equal footing. The built in advantages private schools ( especially in Knoxville, Chattanooga, Nashville, and Memphis areas ) have over Class A public schools from rural areas of TN is too overwhelming. If these private schools don't want to play in AA or AAA basketball, then let TSAAA create a snall A private school classifictiona and let these schools build their program this way instead of feasting off rural A programs who can't compete against private school and their mission/method of "selecting" their student body/student athletes. When you have obscure private schools mostly faith based who have just starting fielding teams over the past five years who are beating traditional Class A schools by 30- 40 point, good AA schools by 10-20, and competing with AAA schools, then what's the point? It's ridiculous. I would be embarrassed if I were a private school. Don't reward them. Make them play each other in their own little special classification if they don't want to earn their stripes playing in Class AA and AAA right out of the gate.
  3. There were some outstanding teams in the region at that time- just as there are now. Sevier County was a powerhouse and even ranked in the USA today top 25 during part of the season. No one is even attempting to make the point Clinton is a favorite to finish in the top 2 in the region. You're missing the point. The point is Clinton is greatly improved and already shown the ability to win against talented teams- as they did against Oliver Springs. Also, while they might not be favored against Bearden, Heritage, or Farragut, they certainly have the talent to play with them and come away with an upset. That's the point. Clinton basketball has made that kind of strides this year.
  4. I'm not familar with the details of the game. I just know Clinton won. Beating OS at OS is quite an accomplishment for any program regardless of classification. Nationally and state ranked teams have failed to win at OS during the last 8 years. This win is evidence Clinton lcan play outstanding basketball competing at a high level- just as you alluded to. They are capable of making a run in the tourney. Also, look at how well they improved against Oak Ridge in game one at Clinton to game two at ORHS. Playing OR to a 77-63 game @ ORHS is impressive. There is still 10 regular season games for improvement, too. Coach Lively- Snyder will have the Lady Dragons primmed to make some noise.
  5. Congrats to Clinton and Coach Snyder on having a breakthrough season. Clinton played Oak Ridger pretty well at ORHS. The score was 77-63 or something to that affect. It was a major improvement over the earlier season game where Oak Ridge ran them off the court in Clinton. For those who don't think this Clinton team can make a run at the state tourney, I think you might want to reconsider. Back in 1990-1991, a group of less heralded gals from Clinton came out of nowhere to shock the district, region, and won their sub state tourney tourney game allowing them to make the state tourney. Oak Ridge was down a little that year, but Clinton still beat a lot of very good teams in the district, regional, and substate while shocking East TN AAA basketball. This Clinton team is more talented than that 1990-1991 team that shocked everyone. Also, taking into account Coach Snyder ( an Oliver Springs alum)coaching prowess, the Lady Dragons probably are confident after many years of trying to assemble a complete team of talented players they finally have many of the pieces in place to make a splash in post season play- and compete against the traditional teams. I wouldn't be surprised if Coach Tonya Lively Snyder isn't using the 1990-1991 team as motivation. Lively-Snyder was an All East Tennessee performer on a very talented AA Oliver Springs team that was upset by Clinton twice that season- including a game at Clinton were the lady dragons came back from 20 points back in the 2nd half to win. She knows Clinton is capable of coming out of nowhere and surprising teams. Also, there is some significance here, too. Clinton beat Oliver Springs at Oliver Springs in a Thanksgiving Tourney this year. No team just waltzes into Oliver Springs and beats the Lady Cats. Clinton hasn't won at Oliver Spring since 1990-1991. I would be wise not to underestimate this team and coach.
  6. I forgot about Jackson County. It's always tough going into Middle TN. Three huge out of district games remaining against three of the better teams in the state of TN regardless of classifications.
  7. Oliver Springs will win. Why? OSHS dominates Morgan County teams in all sports. That statement isn't arrogant. It's reality. Occasionally, OSHS will slip up and lose to a Morgan County team. However, that's an anomaly. This isn't a 10, 20, or 30 year pattern. It's been this way since OSHS has fielded a basketball team going back to the inception of it's storied program. The Lady Cats have the following on their mind -district championship, regional championship, sub state win, State tourney berth, and state championship. The game at Coalfield is part of the process. However, coalfield beating OSHS would make the Lady Jackets season. That's the difference between the two programs. OS is gunning for it's 8th straight district championship. Let's look at Lady Cat basketball since since 2001-2002 season: 2001-2002 District 4 AA champs & AA state tourney 2002-2003 District4 AA champs, ranked in the AA top 8 most of season 2003-2004 District 4 AA champs, ranked in the AA top 4 most of season, & AA state tourney semifinalist 2004-2005 district4 AA champs, ranked #1 in AA a lot of year 2005-2006 District 4 A champs, Class A state tourney 2006-2007 District 4 a champs, Class A state RUNNER UP 2007-2008 District 4 a champs, Class A state tourney Oliver Springs has beaten nationally and state ranked teams from all classifications, yet someoene believes that Coalfield's home atmosphere is going to hinder the Lady Cats? OSHS has beaten teams like Clarkrange, Livingston Academy, Knox Webb, Lebanon, Kingsport D-B, McMinn Central, Giles County, William Blount, Stone Memorial, Austin East, Seymour, Trinity Christian, White County, Cumberland County, and Grundy Country during the past eight years. I'm not even including 4-5 Holiday tourneys in Florida where the Lady Cats were champions. The point is this= OSHS game against Coalfield Coalfield Expect a business like attitude by the Lady Cats. OS by 10. I'm looking forward to Clarkrange and Knox Webb visiting the Cat's den later in the year. Those are the two games left in the regular season that should be interesting and be very telling to see if the Lady Cat's have improved and will be a serious challenger for the state championship.
  8. LOL@ Coalfield people thinking they culd waltz into one of the toughest venues in Tennessee and win this game. When is the last time Coalfield beat Oliver Springs? Wasn't it in the 90's? Wait. Are we even sure Coalfield has beaten Oliver Springs once? Can someone check on that. I do know on the Coacht.com records Oliver Springs has beaten Coalfield something like 15 straight times and it goes back to 2001. So here is my question, Why do some Coalfield people think they actually have a chance to waltz into OS and come out with a victory? To the poster who said KC only had 6 point against Oakdale and insinuated that she might not be ready for UTC. Here is the real question at hand- IS the Southern Conference ready for KC? That's the legitimate Question. As I said before, It was better when OS was in a district with Loudon, Kingston, Harriman, Rockwood, Lenior City, and Scott County instead of this current confederation. Their fans are at least somewhat more "interesting" and don't post lame on message board. OS has more in common with the current AA district of Kingston, CAK, Anderson County, Loudon, Scott, and Stone Mountain. I get because of our enrollment being on the cusp, we play single A, but I think our athletic programs in basketball, softball, and baseball would more than compeititve and in basketball compete for the district championships, regional and state just as we have in the past before..... Alcoa won't play single A with it's single A enrollment. OS needs to do the same.
  9. This was a tremendous early season match up. These type of games is what makes Tennessee high school girls basketball special. JC has been the pinnacle of Girls HS basketball in A and AA over the past 8 years or so. It feels like OS and JC have a lot in common with both teams being AA and A powers during this time. Good luck the rest of the year. I have a feeling OS, JC, and Clarkrange will be 3 of the four teams in the class A semifinals in the spring. All three play a brutal out of district schedule that will have all three powers ready come tourney time.
  10. Looks like the 2nd quarter did the Lady Cats in. It's good to see them rally back in the 3rd quarter like they did and make it a great game going down the stretch. Clarkrange, OS, and JC will all three be there come Tourney time. All three can play with any team in the state of TN. Congrats to the Lady Devils. I know the Lady Cats program expects to win every game, but Losing to one of Tennessee's top 3 teams (in all classifications) by just 8 points is nothing to be upset over.
  11. My predictions: 1) OS 2) Coalfield 3) Oneida/Wartburg ( tie) 5) Oakdale 6) Sunbright Oakdale could be a spoiler come district tourney time and qualify for the region.
  12. Couple things: The first being: I don't follow Oliver Springs, Roane, Anderson, or East Tennessee politics. I could care less what happens at the Oliver Springs town council meetings, Morgan County school board meetings, or any politics in East Tennessee. I have a suspicion most posters agree this isn't the forum even if I did care. The Second being: This is a sports message board. It's focus should be sports related and not Morgan County political squabbles. It's always great when you see factions hijack threads and turn the conversation into something other than the topic at hand. This is a basketball thread where X's and O's, players, and other applicable sports information to district 4-a basketball should be discussed. Registering? Let's keep the focus on Sports and not bickering- especially when that bickering is Morgan County politics.
  13. So I log on to read about District 4-A/Lady Cat Basketball and this is what awaits me? An internet argument over Morgan County's dysfunctional school system? Are you kidding me? It's still by belief OSHS should have remained in AA regardless of the decrease in enrollment which dropped OS to Single A. The school and city have more in common with these schools Anderson County (Clinton) CAK (Knoxville) Kingston Knoxville Catholic (Knoxville) Loudon Scott County (Huntsville) Stone Memorial (Crossville) than Wartburg Coalfield Sunbright and Oakdale The games were a lot more interesting, too. Why don't you morgan countians just meet at Partners Pizza ( if it's still open) and have it out there and spare us non Morgan county people from reading your internal squabbles.
  14. Oliver Springs looks like the class of the district easily. The Knoxville news sentinel has them only losing Once this year to Midway. It also shows them hammering Kingston. Coacht.com shows Kingston hammering Oliver Springs. One is wrong and one is right. Regardless, it looks like OS is competing with some of the best AA teams and killing A teams ( with excpetion to a strong Midway team). OS could be a sleeper to make a push for the Single A Championship.
  15. She has a great chance to play overseas. WNBA salaries aren't the best. Average players only make 40-50k per season. Overseas players can make 70-200k per year. I would much rather play in Europe and visit those countries than play in the WNBA in American cities.
  16. How good are the Lady Bobcats? Their coacht.com record indicates OS is 11-2 overall.
  17. 1. Oliver Springs - State Champs and State tourney potential unless stumbles in substate 2. Wartburg- state tourney potiential, but has to win in upper East tn in sub state to make Mfboro 3. Coalfield- region and outside shot at state tourney 4 Onieda- 2nd place in district would be a huge surprise and probably region casualty 5 Oakdale- Region Hopeful with no chance to advance past region 1st round 6 Sunbright- Region would be a huge suprise tranlating into an embarrassing drefeat in the 1st round of region game.
  18. This question is Blasphemy /smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" /> Goose and a couple others would be better to answer this question than myself. Hall was one of the top 10-20 high school players of this decade in Tennessee girls high school basketball. She owened the Tennessee high school record for most free throws made in a career. That's an amazing accomplishment. She led OSHS to the AA state tourney twice. She led OS to some amazing wins against some outstanding competition ( McMinn County and Livingston Academy). LA was state champs the year OS knocked them off and McMinn County was easily one of the better teams in the state and nation. She was the starting PG on her AAU team that finished in the top 4 ( I believe). She probably didn't get the national recgonition she deserved because of heir height of 5'4. It's my belief Hall would have been a tremendous PG for any SEC school including the Lady Vols who could have used her the last two years with their lack of depth at the guard position. Her speed, court presence, and agility made her unstoppable for high school guard to keep up. In watching the NCAA tourney game against Kansas State ( a 5 seed I believe), she kept Chattanooga in the game and it was obvious her game is at a different speed than the Big 12 power Kansas State's guards. Hall was all state three straight years since her sophomore year including 1st team all state all classifications her junior year and 2nd team all classifications her senior year. Kayla's Resume at this juncture is just as impressive. She's more of a national prospect because of her height. She's led OSHS to 3 consecutive state tourneys including state runner up last year. Her AAU team is very good. She's made all state her sophomore and junior year. She was also Knoxville/East Tennessee sophomore of the year by the Knoxville News Sentinel. I've only seen her play once compared to 8-10 times of LH's games at OS. OS beat a Knox Webb team ranked #17 in the USA today and beat a great Clarkrange team last year. If I was picking a team, LH would be the PG and KC would be the offguard and it would make one of heck of a dymanic backcourt duo. If I were adding a small forward to the lineup, I would pick former OSHS star and top 100 national prospect and Scottish import Claire Mollison to the lineup. She had a good college career despite of some injuries. I knew her from her days of playing for the Scottish National team at age 16 when I lived in Edinbugh Scotland in the mid 90's. So with that being said, why pick one? Take them both and it's a forumula for success.
  19. Congrats. Let's hope the best for her http://www.roanecounty.com/cgi-bin/storyvi...007.Full+Sports
  20. This thread is about next year. Please keep up.
  21. 1. Oliver Springs 2. Everyone Else when you have the state's top player in all classifications and a team that's won 7 strait district champsionships in AA and A, how can you not go with Oliver Springs?
  22. My bad. I'm slipping up. All jokes aside, props to Wartburg. It looks like the team hit all cylinders and was a completely different team the 2nd half of the year compared to the first half. Beating OS and playing a pretty good game against Jackson County is no small feat.
  23. Wartburg won 1 games this year against Oliver Springs. Oliver Springs won 2 games against Wartburg this year. Wartburg's win against Oliver Springs was it's biggest win in school history. Oliver Springs's two wins against Wartburg this year doesn't even register in the top 100 to 200 in OSHS's storied tradition. And now you know.
  24. LOL@Wartburg fans wanting credit for their 1st win against Oliver Springs in the last 20 attempts or so.
  25. Schools can offer scholarships at any time in high school. There are some high school freshman and sophomores in America commiting to schools who have offered. It's more common in the men's game.
