  1. I disagree with the anolgoy of Webb falling. They play a tough schedule and are head and shouldes above most schools their size in Private sector.
  2. Coalfield, Harriman, Powell, Rhea County, and Halls once were region/distric leaders, but have fallen to middle of pack to cellar dwellers in their regions.
  3. Oliver Springs... When the Bobcats are on a roll is there another gym that is louder with vocal support? Also, Clarkrange can be intense
  4. You are correct, I missed the mark there on the last 7 years, however your post said that OS had never beaten Loudon under Johnson's tenure at OS>
  5. s group AAU olympics playing in knoxville. Does anyone have a listing of the Tennessee Elite roster?
  6. Agreed!!!!!!!!!! Send Students to Rockwood and Kingston!!!!!!! Rockwood would have enrollment of approx. 600 Kingston 1000. IT would work out perfectly!
  7. It's completely accurate. Oliver Spring beat Loudon in Coach Johnson's 1st year in 1990 13-7 at Oliver Springs, my senior year.
  8. out of nowhere in the last 10 years. What are some programs that have elevated their temas to year to year winners that previously were doormat and a cellar dwellar. Couple from East Tennessee 1. Oliver Springs- The Bobcats were on the losing end for decades to Kingston, Harriman, Rockwood, Scott County, Loudon, Lenior City by scores of 49-0, 35-7, 56-12 on a yearly basis. In the last 7 years under the guidance of Frank Johnson, the bobcats have beaten once thought impossible teams to beat such as Alcoa ( 3 times), Kingston, Lenior City ( 4 times), Webb, Harriman, Loudon. OS has been to playoffs 5 times since 1994 and had only gone twice the previous 15. 2.Seymour- As the Bobcats have, they have become a major 3-A contender. 3. Sevier County- Who would have thought they would win the 5-a championship and compete yearly for region championship. 4. Willima Blount and Heritage- both have fielded teams that have reached playoofs in recent years and once were celler dwellers. 5. Wartburg- Have made playoffs in recent years.
  9. The difference of 109 is enourmous when talking of enrollments of 400-500. IF the enrollment numbers were 1000-1300 there is no difference. I would imagine that Rockwood and Harriman gate receipts and athletic budget have dropped tremendously over the last 5-7 years with declinging enrollment. 109 matters.. trust me
  10. Harriman will enter Roane County School system. I believe the city residents will vote that way and the council will abide or even go ahead with out a refferendum. Either way, I believe it a certain unstoppable act. However, I think zoning boundries should remain intact. State Laws require Roane County to allow Harriman to join county schools, however zoning is a different story. You reap what you sow, and now Harriman will do just that. Autonomy wasnt the answer.
  11. Keep fighting!!!!!!!!!! Great game Laura Hall! Making OS proud!
  12. With Harriman's possible inception into Roane County school system, there is a real concern that Harriman will want to have school renovated and revamped with an influx of surronding areas to boost enrollment and morale. I too was 18 when the vote in 1991 was made to consolidate schools. That vote was made concerning present day Rockwood, Kingston, Midway, and OS. Without question, OS has flourished since new ahtletic facilities and a revamped and remodeled school under the new administration. Swamp, I am certian you remember in 91 that OS football and athletic program was doormat and considered inferior to Rockwood, Harriman, and Kingston. With vision, that tables have turned drastically. OS is known throughout the area and state for fan support and its vision. Packed crowds in all athletics, girls and boys basketball teams attending being highly succesful in national tournaments. OS has become highly visable. Swamp, in 1991 did you ever think you would see OS scheduling teams like Brentwood Academy, playing at a top 5 team in Kentucky, playing in Florida tournies. The girls playing in the Disney tourney in Orlando this past year. I do believe harriman has a plan and that would be to possibly take other students from surronding areas to boost enrollment. My gut feeling is from Kingston and OS would lose. Knowing that Kingston wants enrollment to remain or increase, one owuld imagine that Sugur Grove valley areas and the Harriman Highway area of OS's school district would be the target of possibly increased enrollment to Kingston or harriman to establish harriman at the expense of OS. I think that Harriman needs to look elsewhere and booster its economy by attracting business and securing its residents and students. This is OS's concern that becuase of the difficulties of Harrimans problems other schools will have to adjust. Its highly unlikely that Kingston will suffer, Highly unlikely that Rockwood will suffer, so who is left? Oliver Springs and its zoning. OS will not adhere to any rezoning for Harrimans gain. Its that simple. Look eslewhere.
  13. Also, I am certain other kids in county steer toward other areas Cumberland County, Rhea County. OS has benifeted from it closeness of being in knoxville in 15-20 minutes on pellisippi Parkway. Unlike other roane towns, OS considered knoxville metro area in the last census.
  14. The issue isnt Oliver Springs and its students as the economic burden, but the declining enrollments of rockwood, and the the possibility of a huge fiscal burden of harriman city schools wanting to incorporate into the Roane County from a city school system. Harriman will obviously want students from Oliver Springs zone once this happens to make for a larger High School. OS will not have any of that. For over 7 decades ( 70 years) OS has the backing and support off all in area. Oliver Springs watched as its enrollment went under 400 in 1988, but just last year had an enrolment over 500. harriman will not gain at the expense of OS. OSHS has become a model high school and its community sprirt and enthusiasuim is second to none with support. OS looks around at its neghbors Harriman, Rockwood, Scott County, Kingston, Lenior City, Loudon, who just 15 years ago outnumbered in enrollment and wealth and could only compete in girls basketball at that time with these schools and acadmeically were inferior. however, because of a man by the Name of Mr. hacker who took over as principal in 1992 OSHS took a trun for the better. Without question OS has become a leader in the area in academics and athletics with an attitude in players and fans that could have not been imagined 15 years ago. Pakced stands, concered parents, college scholarships- in academics and athletics. Why am I typing this? To see other schools fall from their pedestals and then want to tear at other schools success is applaing and ludicrous. yes, norwood ( anderson county) counts for 35 percent of OS enrollment. However, Oak Ridge has 300 kids that live in Roane Countythat attned ORHS. In case you forgot, OR resients in Roane COunty pay property tax. Knowing that Oak ridge and OS have a special relatioinship - you will always see cooperation from the two county commisoners in area who work. OS will never be consolidated. It's One of Roane Counites stars, so other schools need to fix it financial, declining enrollment, and image problems just as OS did 11 years ago.
  15. Oak Ridge and Oliver Springs residents are unified and resdidents have same mentality concerning school consolidation. Residents of OS have more of an mentality of OR and Clinton. Kids at OSHS interat more with kids from OS and CLinton.
  16. Ahhhhhh FBCheeseWHIZ... I dont have to look at that TN CampbellCounty/Jellico/CrossvilleBLAH BLAH magazine you refer to.. I looked at numerous preseason college magazines such as Athons's, Street and Smith's, and others that state JUNIOR runnning back Corey Booker at Oak Ridge is considered one of the TOP 5 RB's in the COUNTRY for the Junior Class. They receive their list from the top of college football recruting. He will be considered a top 20 player overall in the high school ranks Um... need I say more?
  17. Some ideas on school configuration in Roane County. With Harriman possibly leaving its status as a school system in its self and turning itself over to Roane County School System, this is without queston going to cause consolidation in Roane County. Political Upheavels within communitites of Kingston, Rockwood, Harriman, Oliver Springs, and Midway communities. With Harriman declining enrollment in the schools and city itself becasue of economic problems from the layoofs in area, as well as Rockwood these two schools have seen an enrollment that once was close to 650 for Harriman and 550 for Rockwood. Now both schools hover around 400 kids. With this being said, Harriman is expecting the Roane County taxpayers to bail them out of the financial mess they are currently in by saving their High school and possibly feeding them with kids from the Roane County high school or Oliver Springs school district to increase enrollement. To me, I think this is appalling. Harriman has dug its grave its currently in. If Roane County Schoosl accept harriman, I believe a county wide school systems should be as follow. Roane Conty High School Consisting of Midway and Current RCHS located in Roane County at Kingston with an enrollment of 1000. A new school midway between Rockwood and Harriman with an enrollment of 850. With harriman and and Rockwood's declinging populaiton and enrollment this would boost the area and academics. Roane County should seeks finacial seek finacial assitance from Andern County for all the Norwood Anderson County students Oliver Springs gets every year. Futhermore, all Norwood kids should attend OS and Anderson County/Clinton is well aware of the money they are making off the OS Anderson County taxpayers that send their kids to Oliver Springs. Some of this money needs to go toward Oliver Springs and actually Roane County. If all Norwood kids attended, OS would have an enrolment of 750-800 or so. IF somehow, just 4 miles away in coalfield these kids were consolidated, then an enrollment of over 1000 kids making a TRI COUNTY HIGH SCHOOL. Just some ideas to throw out there? any other suggestions?
  18. Dont think I am being biased, but alot of posters will agree Oliver Springs Bobcats have amazing fans at home and also that travel to away games to give a lound vocal support. Usually OS will outnumber the Home team at away games with their fan support. Amazing for a school of 45.
  19. Oak Ridge will win a state championship in the next 3 years. They will be VERY tough this year. And with a great chance of goign undefeated. Growing up in Oliver Springs, I am very familar with the OR mystic and tradition. The Wildcats simply have the best athletes on a year to year basis than any other school in East Tennessee. Sure, AE and even Alcoa ( which is great for a 3-a and 2-a school) sometimes can match them at the skill positions, however overall OR has sent more players to big time schools than any other school in East Tennesee of scholarships. No one is even close. Any doubters need to realize that OR has gone through a transition period. They will be back in a big way.
  20. Pitino, Oak Ridge is far superior to Mcminn COunty as is most of the list you read off. True they beat Central last year, but they only eneded up with a .500 record. But, your list is right on besides that. I do believe like Cleveland, OS could move up higher based on the young players that are improving drastically as I type with the Team composed of Juniors and Sophomores that already led OS tyo the state tourney just last year as Sophomores and freshman.
  21. Oak Ridge, Oliver Springs, Farragut, Maryville, Lenior City, and Kingston can compete with those on the list. All in Roane/Anderson/Blount/and west Knox all within 20 miles of each other.
  22. Districts 1,2,3,4 Top 10 teams 1. Oliver Springs 2. South Greene 3. Gatlinburg Pittman 4. Elizabethton 5. Loudon 6. Seymour 7. Austin East 8. Unicoi County 9. Kingston 10 Scott County

    hands down

The list I saw just had one TN player on it and that was Jessica Jackson on the top 20 of nationwide freshamn players. I just brought her name into this post because of that. Undoubtly there are even more players out there in this class that will make an impact like Rogers, Bullard, and Jackson have with phenomenal freshamn campaigns.

    hands down

Center Jessica Jackson from Ridgeway in Memphis might end up being the best freshman in the state. SHe is listed in some recruting services as a top 20 player for her class NATIONWIDE and the only Tennessee player on the list. However comparing it's apples to oranges when you compare centers to PG's.
