  1. "What the heck is a "level playing field"? Based upon literally thousands if not tens of thousands of posts on this subject from public school suporters, the always illusive "level playing field" is that set of conditions which will always insure that your public school is the state championship team in the respective sport in which they are participating. Obviously, when two public schools are playing in the same championship game, a severe case of cognitive dissonance occurs. A "non level playing field" exists whenever your (the one where your child attends) public school is forced to play a private school, a open enrollment public school, a public school with better facilities, a public school with better coaches, an urban public school, a rural public school and any combination or permutation thereof. In summary, if your public school is beaten, that is prima facie evidence of a "non level playing field" condition and as such, just isn't fair. Your remedy is to lobby the TSSAA that your school should be placed in a new classification whose characteristics will be identical to any other school placed in that classification. The TSSAA will shortly be adding demographers and economists to insure that all socioeconomic criteria are considered. Next question.
  2. As that great former Tennessee high school football player and immanently quotable and hated (at least among SEC coaches) coach, Steve Spurrier, would say after last night's performance, "You can't spell Citrus without UT".
  3. Not a bad point but wouldn't be a felon in training.
  4. Too bad about UVA. Must not have been able to get into UNC! Real men major in chemistry. You mother's boys need to know when someone's pulling your leg. Congratulations on a great season. I'm looking forward to watching Bartholomew on Saturdays. Too bad it won't be at UNC where he would have gotten an education.
  5. Like to rephrase: "I think Potter will lose twice in one season to the "little Big Red team". The offense MBA sees might not have been adjusted. When did the adjective little include a 275 lb lineman and 250+lb linebackers? Looks like MBA found BA's recruiting list. Assuming your tongue was planted solidly in your cheek. I'm sure all are scholars and will graduate from UT Phi Beta Kappa!" I'll stick with the recruiting comment.
  6. I think the only shock is that a team which had beaten 11 teams with a combined record of 48-70 and which only had 4 winning records among them, was only beaten by Maryville by 30+ points. This doesn't include the record of the Canadian team but who would even knew they played high school football in Canada? RB needs to upgrade its schedule. Experience with a challenging schedule means a lot more than an undefeated season at playoff time.
  7. I don't think Potter will lose twice in one season to the "little Big Red team". The offense MBA sees will have been adjusted. When did the adjective little include a 275 lb lineman and 250+lb linebackers? Looks like MBA found BA's recruiting list. Assuming your tongue was planted solidly in your cheek. 8. Of course not. I would generally ask both parents to run a timed 40 , ask them to bench press their weight (their own, that is) and do 75 push ups in one minute. For good measure and to make sure the kid was "our kind", I would ask both parents to recite the periodic table from memory. I would then take a hair from the prospective athlete er I mean student so our staff geneticist could test it to determine his parentage. You don't want to take a chance on bad genes. Sometimes I would run a credit check on them because you don't want any riffraff sneaking in. If everything checked out, the school would generally ask for title to the family's house just in case the sixth grader reneged on his contract to participate in athletics. You know some of those sixth graders have been known to change their minds about sports. Lastly, we would require that the parents and child sign a CoachT non disclosure agreement which means they couldn't post a message about it on this site. And that's why this is probably the first time you've heard about it.
  9. I will plead guilty of recruiting many times over the years. I'll confess to doing it the way many private school parents do it on a regular basis. Get your pen and paper. I coached several different sports at the rec league level when my children were younger. When I noticed a child who was smart and well behaved, I asked the parents if they had considered _______. Some times they say they had but didn't have the resources to pay tuition. I suggested to them that the school would ask them to send their financial information to the financial assessment service in Princeton NJ which would determine if they qualified for financial aid. Frequently they didn't qualify and had to make the decision whether the benefits of private education wer worth the costs. If if they did qualify, many times they would still have to pay a significant part of tuition. Oh yeah, one other thing, every now and then the kid was a decent athlete. One kid ended up playing D1 athletics and a couple played for D111 schools. If you're willing to give me credit for recognizing that kind of talent in sixth graders, I've got some swamp land I'll sell you. Confession is good for the soul.
  10. Sean Tuohy did not admit to paying players in The Blind Side. Of course if buying the odd meal for a dirt poor child is "paying" them, you might have a point, not a good one, but a point. Sean Tuohy was investigated by the NCAA and there was no finding of improprieties after an exhaustive investigation. You ought to actually read the book before misquoting it. The story is a wonderful example of a family making a "feral" child one of their own. Of Michael Lewis' good books, this might have been his best.
  11. Don't know if we can stand the excitement but its hard to polish a turd - Ooltewah by 42.
  12. Looks like an advertisement for Manny. Maybe you ought to consider paying CoachT for the priviledge of using his site to advertise.
  13. Typical well coached and well played Baylor and McCallie soccer match. Big crowd, no whining, good sportsmanship. If you take the net margin of victory over the last 18 to 20 games played over the last the last 9 years, I bet the margin is 2 or 3 goals one way or the other.
  14. Since you know so much about McCallie soccer, specifically which "recruited" players was Gary playing behind? I thought this this was a string about best freshman in Chattanooga. Are you saying that Gary, if compared to freshmen, would be pretty good. Or, are you saying that, although, he is a senior he should be compared to good freshman players. Or. are you saying that he wasn't good enough to play on McCallie's varsity but he's really good at Ooltewah?
