  1. Powell wins 42-14. The Vikings scored an early TD, then it was 42 straight from the Panthers. Should be a good one in Sevierville next week!
  2. Here are the semi-finalists: Class 5A Eric Hazzard, Page Caden Marshall, Henry County Kelvin Perkins, Southwind Dominic Reed, Centennial Steven Soles, Jr., Powell Class 6A Boo Carter, Bradley Central Braden Graham, Riverdale Geron Johnson, Bartlett Daune Morris, Oakland Cordero Walker, Germantown
  3. Powell needs to keep Rodgers and Wheeler healthy in this game. It'll be a short post-season if they can't do that.
  4. Wow, I can't believe Farragut pulled that off.
  5. EH is no doormat. They've got some athletes, and they beat a really good Walker Valley team a couple of weeks ago, so the result against Rhea County was really surprising to me. I think you'll see some points scored in this one, but I still like OR to get to the QFs, and probably the SFs. Tough road though. Gonna have to beat EH, rematch with McMinn (or Clinton), and probably WV.
  6. I can't speak to what West lost during the off-season, I don't follow their team closely enough. But I don't think any of the Powell fans here are trying to take anything away from what West has accomplished this season. They've had a tremendous season.
  7. 5A is gonna be fun. There are a number of good teams that all have a shot - Oak Ridge, West, and Powell in the east, Henry County, Page, Southwind, Shelbyville, and maybe even Beech in the west. This West team doesn't have the star power that they've had in the last few years, but they've got depth and a great kicking game, and if they don't turn the ball over (they didn't last night), they are tough to beat.
  8. Completely agree. This team has really grown over the course of the season, and that's exactly what you want to see from a program that lost so much production to graduation. I think they proved last night that they can hang with anyone in 5A this season, as long as they keep the self-inflicted wounds to a minimum.
  9. I assumed he was referring to your take on the game last night, and I certainly wasn't calling you out. I didn't think that anyone had an issue with what you posted. I just didn't like ILB insinuating that "everyone in the thread" thought that Powell blew it. Not sure how anyone could've drawn that conclusion based on the comments here.
  10. ILB, what are you talking about? Since when does one person's opinion (footballknox) = "everyone in this thread"?
  11. Rodgers has really matured as the year has gone on. For a kid his age, his grasp of the read-option is really impressive, although he missed a couple against West that I think he'd like to have back. But he's also improved as a passer, and that is the key to this team making a playoff run.
  12. It was tough to see #16 shank that punt and then miss the PAT in OT. He's one of the better kickers in the area. Hopefully he'll shake it off and get a shot at redemption in the playoffs. Great game though. Both teams made some great in-game adjustments, and it came down to who made the fewest mistakes. Great teams do what West did last night - they got points on all three drives into Powell territory (plus the OT score), they didn't turn it over, they didn't miss a kick, and they only had a few penalties. Powell didn't have many penalties, but they shanked a punt deep in their own territory (led to the tying TD), they threw an INT in West territory midway through the 4th, and they also turned it over on downs in the red zone when they were up 17-7 (WR caught the ball in the end zone on the previous play, but he was ruled OB). That defensive stop by West was a turning point, followed by a 3rd and long conversion by Cummings (three plays later) on a really nice side-arm throw. The Panthers were running downhill on their first two drives of the second half, and I don't know if West wins if they fall behind 3 scores there. Powell's front 6/7 has really grown this season, and they really made West earn it on the ground. The only time West was able to move the ball at all was when they went tempo and leaned on the stretch hand-off. They started doing that after Powell turned it over on downs midway through the 3rd. Up to that point, West only had ~75 yards of total offense (3 first downs), and half of that came on the passing TD right before the half. Really hoping these two get a rematch in the quarterfinals!
  13. West scores and wins it with the PAT. West wins 24-23 in OT. Entertaining game between two evenly matched teams.
  14. Powell scores a TD first, but pulls the PAT. Now it's West's turn.
  15. 2 min to play, Powell ball at their own 30. Still tied at 17.
  16. Powell goes three and out, and shanks the ensuing punt. West scores three plays later, and we're tied at 17 with 11 min left.
  17. Powell with another long drive, but they turn it over on downs in the red zone. West responds with their best drive of the game, but they are stopped at the 5. West cuts the lead to a TD with a short FG. Powell leads, 17-10 with a min left in the 3rd.
  18. Panthers run it down the Rebels' throat to open the second half. 17-7 Powell early in the 3rd.
  19. Powell responds right before the half with a TD pass of their own. Panthers lead 10-7 at the half.
  20. West finally puts a drive together after 4 straight punts, and scores on a long TD pass with 1 min left in the half. West leads 7-3.
  21. Defensive slugfest so far. Three drives for each team, three punts for West, two punts and a FG for Powell. West with one first down (via penalty), Powell has driven into West territory twice, and the last drive ended in a short FG. Powell leads 3-0 with 6 min left in the half.
  22. For those "?" scenarios, Farragut would be the odd man out; overall wins would knock them out of the 3-way tie. Then it would revert back to head-to-head for Maryville and Cleveland. Maryville would be #3 and Cleveland #4.
