  1. Agreed that Brunetti makes mistakes, but the kid is a gamechanger both throwing and running. Whether or not MBA can contain the read option is the key to the game. Tilman and McBride are track guys and its tough to stop all of them. Although it was game 1, Melrose's speed allowed them to bottle them up and force mistakes. If they had a kicker they would have won. I've watched the Big Red a couple of times and they don't appear to have enough speed at LB to stay with MUS. MBA clearly has more size, but MUS has the speed. I think the Big Red gets beat by Taylor Reed over the top for the gamewinner late - Owls 24 MBA 20
  2. 49-21 owls. BGA's D is horrible. #4 morman and #5 bass are good players running the ball.
  3. A nice game to see would be the new AD at MBA's former team Mobile St Pauls Episcopal vs BA. St Paul's has 5-6 D1 SEC caliber players this year and is the odds on 5A state champ. Love to see the best teams tee it up.

    MBA

If naming a new coach was a "done deal" it sure is taking a long time to make it official. Any word on the other candidates? There must be acouple of others in the mix. Also, what kind of team does MBA have coming back? I would think the Super8 is pretty wide open this year.
  5. was at the game and it was frankly ugly. neither team has a gamebreaker so the defenses dominated. MUS won on a great catch over a defender that was in position to make a INT. The MBA defender fell down after the catch and it was run in for the winning TD. In the 2nd half MBA simply lost their composure. Multiple false starts and the coach's penalties at the end. I will say this, if given time to throw the MBA QB is a good passer and takes care of the football, but neither team has many weapons. When the two penalties happened they were on about the 30 and it was actually about 10 seconds left and it ran down to 7.8. Even with 10 seconds, they had no timeouts so they would have had to hit a sideline pattern or the clock would have run out.
  6. Just to clarify, Bryant was never the head coach at Union college, just an assistant who left after spring drills his first year to go back to Bama as an assistant. He never actually coached a game at Rothrock. That is an excellent urban legend thats been going around for years.
  7. This is not a coaching horror story, but a horror story that happened to a coach that presently coaches one of the most successful highschool teams in WTenn. This all happened in the same day: 1) Fired from an assistants job at a DivIAA university 2) wrecked his car 3) wife left him this also happened to him on his birthday
  8. Congratulations to Coach Locastro and the Purple Wave. They played an excellent, mistake free game and made the plays when it counted. MUS put themselves in position to win the game by putting the brothers on their own 18 late , but when CBHS drives 82 yards into the wind on almost 10 plays in the last 3 minutes you have to give them a lot of credit and just admit you got beat by players making plays. Mosby was very disruptive and I think he affected the MUS passing game -they blitzed him on almost every pass in the 2nd half and I think it eliminated the big play for the Owls with the exception of one long pass to Prokell where he made a juggling catch. I think this will be a good gut check for the Owls as it proves again that if you don't bring your A game you can get beat.

    JCS @ USJ

USJ should stick to 2A next year and avoid DII. They would be in the DII AA division with Briarcrest and ECS among others. It would be ugly and a real reality check for the Jackson ego. I've always wondered why they didn't play them. They are both private schools with good programs, but that would but a little much to ask of the Bruins.
  10. CBHS is the more physical team with the better defense. BA has more firepower but the home field advantage is the difference. CBHS in a slugfest 10-7 on a late field goal. This is pretty much how all their games have gone.
  11. Congrats on a much deserved victory. I talked to friend after the game who indicated it could have been 28 or 35 to 0 if CPA had held on to the ball. The size mismatch on both lines was just too much. Good luck next week against Boyd.
  12. he must have a great set of tools.
  13. What I'm talking about is UT passing on him as a RUNNING BACK. They were interested in him as a linebacker. In regards to the 40 time everyone knows those times are padded and just not accurate. We know that's true from the legit times you see at the NFL combine where guys like FSU's Javon Walker who supposedly ran a 4.2 run a 4.7. Stewart is obviously a heck of a player but the point remains there is no such thing as a slashing north south runner unless you've invented a new dictionary in Maryville.
  14. No but he's PLAYED on a state championship team and against BA and MBA, so I think he knows a little about what a championship team looks like. You can talk smack all you want, the bottom line is that both Melrose and Hillsboro can play with and potentially beat you next week. The cupcakes are over. I still can't wait to see why all the smart folks in Knoxville passed on your slashing north south runner who's not a speed back but supposedly ran a 4.46 - who colleges project as a fullback if he plays offense. The only guys who have those numbers are playing on Sundays. Don't even bother responding because one man's 4.46 is the NFL combine's 4.64 if you know what I mean. USJ - CPA

Have a safe trip down 40 to Jackson. There hasn't been much talk about this game on the board, but it doesn't really need any. Two good teams and coaches. With all the young guys playing for both teams this won't be the last time these two see each other in the playoffs. Go Bruins!!!
