  1. I imagine the Bobcats were pretty jacked up going into the game after the quote I read.
  2. Midway is a heck of a team despite being undersized. They play very hard and are fundamentally sound. Wish they could have won tonight, but they have no reason to hang their heads.
  3. Congrats. I'm an Oakdale fan and you guys executed your game plan to perfection in my opinion. Oakdale has been able to get teams into a track meet all year and you guys refused to run with them. Also Oakdale has been undersized in the post all season and no one in Class A really took advantage, but you guys were patient and kept pounding it in to 42. That patience also made Oakdale work a lot harder than they were used to all season on defense. It was a great game to watch and I sure hate it that my team lost, but you guys played well and with a lot of class.
  4. I figured they were just saving him for the rematch.
  5. They were. I wondered if not being tested would hurt them and it did. It's hard to play a 4-quarter game when most games are over midway through the second quarter.
  6. P. Too many blowouts have hurt them down the stretch.
  7. I wish I could play on a bum ankle in the state tourney and people think I was still good enough to play in college.
  8. As a whole East Tennessee got the shaft this year. In all three classes only six of the I think 45 players that were selected from East Tennessee. Guys like Pace, McClain and Grace Christian's Connor Arnold are no-brainers for the list, but it sounds like East Tennessee must not have been well represented when they voted.
  9. The all-state team was voted on before the state tournament, but I was stunned that Pace or McClain one didn't make it. As far as Harriman not having any kids that will play in college, four of the starters have college offers. McClain signed with Bryan College today. Pace and Johnson also have offers to sort out, Pace will have to decide football and baseball as well. Bingham let teams know early on that he wasn't going to play college basketball, but they were still in contact. If they wanted, all four could play at the next level.
  10. This is how it went for Cosby. It was 13-0 before they scored. When they did score to make it 13-2, Harriman responded in about 5 seconds with a dunk.
  11. I told my son with about 5 minutes to go that the only way Grace was going to win is if Arnold scores 20 down the stretch. The way he was playing it was possible. Grace is a tough team, but i said before the game Harriman was a team with no pressure on them and I thought they would win. The pressure was beating Meigs Tuesday, and no matter what happened tonight they were playing Monday. I think Harriman played loose and free, and the result was a great showing. I wouldn't be surprised if both teams win Monday and I could see either team making a run to the title game in Murfreesboro. I think Humboldt is the favorite from here on out, but I like Harriman's or Grace's chances against any other team left.
  12. I said last week that the coalfield was much better that the Harriman team Cloudland played last week. And I'm not trying to bash Harriman here, they had so many injuries that they weren't the team that battled Coalfield to the wire in September.
  13. Harriman's top receiver is Bingham and he played, but was a decoy with a cast on his hand. WR John Johnson was out with a shoulder. He was a 6'3" receiver that can really go get it. Pace was also playing with a bad elbow that he dislocated against Coalfield. He put on a show last night, but his hurt elbow and Phipps broke hand really limited what a lot of what Harriman wanted to do on the ground (read options). Phipps also had a cast on his hand and was limited to 4 carries. One was a fumble that bounced off his cast. Phipps was the guy that ran for 200+ last year against Greenback. It was the same against Greenback. Bingham and Phipps played but were limited. The injuries didn't really hurt Harriman on offense last night even though they were a better offense midway through the season. Where the injuries really hurt were on defense. Prater (LB) was already out then Bingham and Phipps playing with casts on had trouble wrapping up against a downhill running team like Cloudland. It's kind of like watching UT on defense with all of their linebackers out, it's hard to be effective when you're thin at LB. Next week will simply come down to making plays. McKinney is a possible D-I QB and Lowe might be the best athlete in Region 2. Coalfield is probably deeper at receiver than Harriman and IMO a better offense than Harriman, but none of that matters if Cloudland runs for 530 yards again. I also think Greenback is the team to beat by far in Regions 1-2.
  14. Just my two cents but it's hard to compare the Harriman team that Coalfield played to the Harriman team Cloudland played. Harriman was pretty much at full strength against Coalfield, but were decimated by injuries by the end of the season, especially at LB which really hurt last night. I think Cloudland has a chance, but they're going to have to score a lot of points again.
  15. Fun game tonight. Harriman seemed in control then Cloudland hit a stretch where they scored 20 straight points without Harriman touching the ball. Ranks second to watching South Pitt score four straight TDs one night without any coming on offense.
  16. Woody ran for 428 yards on 15 carries against Unaka tonight.
  17. Heard Unaka wasn't coming and neither was Concord. Midway volunteered by was told no.
  18. Oakdale loses a lot in Steinmetz, Bingham and C. Hicks, but they have a really solid sophomore class. If those players develop as they should, the Eagles will be a deeper team next year. It may take a while for players to learn their roles, but if they come together as a team (chemistry) this group has enough pieces in place to win District 4A again. But right now they'll be the hunter instead of the hunted next season.
