  1. This thread may give a lot of schools the "my team would be champs" option, but the question is pretty neat to think about. Like this: **Dyer Co. and Union City would be in the same district. **Humboldt, Bolivar, and Liberty would be in the same district. **The old A districts would have probably finished like this: 13A - 1) Greenfield 2) Dresden 3) South Fulton 4) Gleason 14A - 1) Lake Co. 2) Peabody 3) Halls 4) Bradford Ifs and buts though. . . .Union City and Humboldt ought to be the most grateful for the changes. Humboldt went to the first two Class A state tournaments and Union City is about to win their second gold ball in three years. Lake Co. should be the most disappointed. . .they probably would've gone to the 'Boro at least one of the two years Humboldt did.
  2. And both of these guys are also out of a job. Thanks, Coach (using that term loosely), for proving my point.
  3. UC and Manassas SHOULD see each other Saturday. But, stranger things have happened. Working in Manassas' favor is that their lack of experience in the 'Boro should iron itself out with a very weak draw. UC has been here before and should dispose of Temple and Moore Co. rather quickly.
  4. Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha !!!!!!!!! That's a good one. Let's see - they go to the state tournament three years in a row, finish with over 100 wins in the past four seasons and (if their coach even retires) they decide to go with some guy who has made it out of the district once and has no ties to the area or success to speak of? Sounds like your friend is doing some HEAVY wishful thinking, or the AD/Principal at Humboldt has lost it. The main point (after getting up out of the floor laughing) is that I haven't heard of Coach Boykin leaving.
  5. Here's a random observation. . . .how did Manassas play 38 games already when it looks like the rest of the state participants didn't play more than 34-35 games? Doesn't the state have a limit? What's the rule and what are the consequences if they violated that rule?
  6. Your English kills me. . anyway - which one were you at the game Monday night? It looked like all Humboldt fans/West TN fans in the middle section across from the scorers table. I should have gone to Dyer Co. like I originally planned, but talked myself into this game to watch a blowout. I did notice a large section of middle aged and older men that were Manassas fans that camped out in the far side of the Humboldt section and taunted their fans half the night - very classy - I'm sure you were probably one of them. It doesn't matter who you beat with what players on which gym floor and what championships they may have won. The point is, you won the important games - Regional semifinals to get to substate and the Substate game to get to Murfreesboro. So for that, congratulations. Were you 30 points better than Humboldt? Yes, on Monday you were. Humboldt made no adjustments and continued to play soft on both ends while Manassas kept the pedal to the floor - job well done by the Tigers. I agree with most on these boards that say Union City and Manassas are the class of the single A tournament. But, Humboldt was the best team in A last year at the Boro and got completely out-coached in the semis. UC won't have that problem, don't know enough about Manassas to say - we'll see soon. By the way, to answer another question on here - - - Manassas did get out of Memphis to play in an Illinois Christmas tournament, according to the schedule posted on here.
  7. So much for Middleton by 20. Sad that two West TN teams play each other right off the bat. Boo to R. Carter and the gang for the "blind draw" idea. I hope it's "one and done" with that experiment.
  8. How many of us actually believe this will happen? It would be a miracle!
  9. Regardless of the "8th grade talent", the Gibson Co. boys job is not a desired position in the area. Especially when they'll lose 1/3 of their enrollment to the new school in two years. Coach Hopkins has been trolling for a new job since he got the heave-ho in Newbern a few years ago.
  10. Well, its been a while since I've joined the fray, but I can't stay out any longer. Legend's posts have made me knock the dust off my 1982 Apple computer that takes up half my kitchen. Let me give you the real scoop Legend. Regardless of the talent/schedule/etc, in the parts of West Tennessee that don't include Shelby Co., the opinion of Manassas is this: football doormat. They've probably bought any of the basketball players they have with the money guarantees paid to them for the automatic wins by the likes of Crockett Co. and Milan over the years. Bottom line on this point is - excuse all of us for not bowing down when you have one year in one sport that you actually aren't a joke. Second, Union City and Humboldt have established a tradition of winning in the tournaments, especially in recent history. Union City has a gold ball as recently as 2006 and Humboldt has been to three consecutive state tournaments, including one in AA in 2005. Excuse us again if we have confidence in our little teams around here, but they have proven worthy of such. Also, if you think because you've seen Union City enough to rattle off a couple of names, or that you know Humboldt because you saw them play (apparently in Dresden jerseys?) one time, that's hilarious. Both of these teams have surprised me before. I thought Lake Co. had the best overall team in 2006, yet they didn't make it out of the region, while Union City (3rd in the district tournament) wins the gold ball. In 2007, I would've lost a little money on Humboldt beating Union City in the regionals, but there were the Vikings in the Boro while UC had to tell us how good they were and how they would've won state. Bottom line there is - don't expect to beat Union City if you play them because you think you can manhandle them or Humboldt because they lost to Middleton way back in November without two starters and a couple more key reserves (football players). Finally, the end of my longest post ever, which is to say that Manassas ought to be good, playing in Class A with a high AA enrollment after some lines were re-drawn after Memphis Westside closed. Enjoy this year and next, because then you go back to AA, where you will fade into the crowd. I will be in Dresden Thursday for a great game!
  11. Yes, he is at Ripley as the head coach after spending last year as Coach Bridges' assistant.
  12. 2008 should be a good year for baseball in West TN: Class A - JCS, Huntingdon, McKenzie, Humboldt, Union City Class AA - Dyer Co., USJ, Lexington, Bolivar, South Side, Dyersburg Class AAA - Brighton, Liberty, Hardin Co. Too bad a lot of these teams compete in the same district. I am looking forward to March. Where's the best opening day game this year?
  13. Are you joking about Harrison? Get a grip! Hey - football is over in Milan. Go to the basketball boards. . . but better make it the girls' board. As much as I would love to see Peabody represent West TN in the Boro next week, I cannot make that pick. Hoping the Tide proves me wrong, I say: GPasture - 38 Peabody - 30
  14. I saw where Gleason lost to West Carroll over the break? If that's true, I'm taking Greenfield in this one. Disadvantage of a large district (14A) - big games come early and often.
  15. Leave it to people from Union City to make a thread clearly named "Justin Blake" to be about something about UC.
