As far as the number of officials required: In district matches, there are supposed to be two, but I know of at least three occasions where only one was present - explanation - "we don't have enough officials to cover all the matches in the area". During non-district matches and weekend tournaments only one can be used, but some championship matches will have two - it depends on the team hosting the tournament. In regional and sectional matches we had four, but some of the linesmen were unknown to me and were out of position at times and missed tip calls. It appears to me that these unknown officials are new and lack experience. Every sport I've covered over the years has good and bad officials. A team has to make the best of what they get and hope that a bad call doesn't cost them a match.
  2. The Lady Patriots defeated Hickman Co. 3-0 (25-10, 25-7, 25-9) to complete the District 12-AA regular season schedule at 12-0. Overall, Page is now 32-10.   3. The Page Lady Patriots made the two hour drive to Chattanooga on Sat., Oct. 2 and came out victorious against both Boyd Buchanan (25-20, 25-22, 15-25, 25-21) and Red Bank (25-14, 25-20, 25-15). Page had previously beaten these teams in the TN Tandem. Boyd Buchanan is the defending Class A Champion and Red Bank is the defending Class AA Champion. Both teams have lost several players to graduation, but they are still formidable opponents. There was a match scheduled between Boyd and Red Bank at 1 PM, but it had to be cancelled due to schedule problem where the 35 match limit would have been exceeded by one of the teams. In the Boyd Buchanan match, Page was led by Molly Locke who had 14 Kills, 1 Block, 1 Ace, 2 Assists, and 10 Digs. Maggie Allen contribute well with 11 Kills, 2 Aces, and 1 Dig. Kelly Mills had 6 Kills, 1 Ace, 2 Assists, and 6 Digs. Jessie Sokol had 6 Kills, 1 Block, 1 Assist and 1 Dig. Tayler McGuire had 41 Assists to go along with 4 Kills, 1 Ace, and 8 Digs. Kayla Townsend had 3 Kills and 2 Blocks and Paige O'Neill had 3 Kills, 1 Block, and 1 Ace. Page had 7 players with kills and 8 players with aces. Boyd Buchanan was led by #6 with a match leading kill count of 25 with 1 Ace, #10 had 9 Kills and 3 Aces, #11 had 9 Kills and 4 Aces, #8 had 9 Aces with 2 Assists and Setter #4 had 39 Assists. Sorry that I didn't get their names. In the Red Bank match, Page was led by both Molly Locke and Maggie Allen with 12 points each followed closely by Kelly Mills with 11 Pts. Setter Tayler McGuire had 29 Assists along with 1 Kill and 1 Block. Jessie Sokol had 3 Kills, Brady wade served 3 Aces, and Kayla Townsend had 2 Kills and 1 Block. Red Bank also had dual leaders in stats as Kayln Helton had 7 Kills and Shelby Hayes had 5 Kills, 1 Block and 1 Ace. Savannah Nelson had 4 Kills and 2 Blocks, and Setters Amy Metcalf and 8 Assists with 2 Kills and 2 Aces and Abby Graham had 10 Assists with 1 Kill. Red Bank had 7 players with kills. It was a good day for the Lady Patriots so it made the trip back to Rudderville not so hard to take.
  4. Tie-breaking rules can be interesting. In some cases, the district coaches will look at overall records. I guess you would look at win % since the total matches can vary depending on how many weekend tournaments you play. Ladies and gentlemen, start your calculators.
  5. Page defeated Lewis Co. 3-0 (25-16, 25-14, 25-15) to clinch the District 12-AA Regular Season Title. It was Senior Night in Hohenwald as Seniors Tish Baugus, Marisa Hamilton, Mary Anna Davis, and Kabrina Davis were honored between the JV and Varsity matches. Their parents met them on the court and flowers were presented. Page JV won the opening match 25-10, 25-11. The Page Lady Patriots traveled to Spring Hill for a District 12-AA match and came away with another win 3-0 (25-16, 25-12, 25-21) Page JV also won in a tough match 2-1 (24-26, 26-24, 15-11) In the Varsity match, Page was led by Maggie Allen with 8 Kills, 7 Aces, 1 Assist, and 2 Digs. Tayler McGuire had 24 Assists to go along with her 4 Kills, 7 Aces, and 1 Dig. Scarlet Sanders had 6 Kills, 1 Ace, 1 Assist, and 2 Digs Jessie Sokol had 7 Kills, and 1 Assist Kayla Townsend had 3 Kills and Paige O'Neill had 2 Kills Page travels to Chattanooga on Friday where they will play in the Tennessee Tandem.
  7. The Ravenwood Lady Raptors made the short trip to Rudderville on Monday, Sept. 13 and won both matches in the tri-match with Page and CPA. In the first match, Ravenwood won over Page 2-0 (25-13, 25-17) as Madelyn Hutson led the attack with 9 Kills and 1 Block and was aided by her "little?" sister Freshman Kathryn who had 4 Kills and 2 Blocks. Jazzy Oates had 5 Kills and 2 Aces and Stephanie Cerino had 4 Kills. Setter Lydia Wright had 12 Assists and 3 Aces and Setter/OH Alyssa Ivey had 7 Assists and 1 Kill. Page was led by Molly Locke with 10 Kills, Maggie Allen with 3 Kills and 1 Ace, and Kelly Mills with 3 Kills. Setter Tayler McGuire had 17 Assists. In Ravenwood's second match, they defeated CPA 2-0 (25-8, 25-23) as CPA made a good effort in game 2. In the third match of the evening, Page defeated CPA 2-0 (25-16, 25-12) as Molly Locke had 9 Kills and 1 Ace, Setter Tayler McGuire had 2 Kills, 5 Aces, and 7 Digs to go along with her 18 Assists, Maggie Allen had 4 Kills and 1 Ace, and Kelly Mills had 4 Kills as 6 players had Kills in all. CPA was led by Mary Catherine Woodall with 5 Kills and Setter Kelsey Gibson had 8 Assists, 1 Kill, and 1 Ace.

Page did not do well on Sat. losing to eventual Gold Bracket winner Woodward 0-2 (20-25, 14-25), Centennial 0-2 (14-25, 21-25), Karns 0-2 (22-25, 17-25) and Brentwood 0-2 (17-25, 22-25) in Pool Play and were put out of the Gold Bracket by Blessed Trinity 0-2 (20-25, 15-25) who finished as runner-up in the Gold Bracket. Page was without three starters Sat. morning as they were taking ACT tests as a word of explanation.

Page won Pool 5 in the BIVT on Friday, Sept 10, 2010: Page defeated Portland 2-0 (25-20, 25-21) Page defeated Holy Innocents GA 2-0 (25-21, 25-8) Page defeated Oak Mountain AL 2-0 (25-22, 25-18) By winning their pool on Friday, they are qualified for the Gold Bracket. Saturday's Pool play will decide the seeding into that bracket. Page will play at 9 AM against the winner of Pool 7 11 AM against the winner of Pool 3 Noon against the wiiner of Pool 9 3 PM against the wiiner of Pool 1 Bracket play starts at 4 PM and will end probably around 9 PM depending on length of previous matches. I'm tired just thinking it. It's going to be a long day.

Page's attack was led by Molly Locke who had 8 Kills, 1 Blk, 8 Aces, 1 Assist, and 2 Digs. Setter Tayler McGuire had 17 Assists, 1 Kill, and 9 Aces. Kelly Mills had 7 Kills, 1 Ace, and 1 Dig. Scarlet Sanders had 3 Kills and 4 Aces. Paige O'Neill had 4 Kills and 2 Assists. Every Page player had at least 1 pt. Friday Page plays in the Brentwood Invitational at A-Game Sportsplex with Pool 5 opponents Holy Innocents GA, Portland, and Oak Mountain AL. Sat. morning pool play begins at 8 AM followed by bracket play at 4 PM. Championship matches in all 4 Brackets are scheduled for 7 PM.
  11. The Page Lady Patriots won over BGA 3-0 (25-10, 25-10, 25-15) in the second match of a quad match that also involved Brentwood and Columbia Central on Wed., Sept. 8, 2010. Page was led by Maggie Allen with 8 Kills and 1 Block. Brady Wade led in serving with 8 Aces and also had 3 Assists and 4 Digs. Setter Tayler McGuire had 16 Assists to go along with her Kill, Block, and 3 Aces. Kelly Mills had 5 Kills and 5 Digs. Several other players added points as Page ended up with 22 Kills, 4 Blocks, and 14 Aces.
  12. The Brentwood Lady Bruins rolled into Rudderville to win a close match over the Page Lady Patriots 3-2 (17-25, 19-25, 25-16, 25-18, 15-9). Page appeared to be in control after winning the first two games, but Brentwood never gave up and came back to win the final three games to take the win. Brentwood was led by Senior Emily VanGrinsven with 22 Pts (21 Kills, 1 Ace) that included 9 Kills in Game 4. Senior Lauren Kaufman had 17 Pts (10 Kills, 4 Blks, 3 Aces) and Sophomore Alexis Spahn had 16 Pts (9 Kills, 7 Aces) where she served 5 Aces in the critical game 3. Brentwood's Setters combined for 45 Assists with JR Nicole Poland having 23 and Freshman Hunter Thompson had 22 along with 4 Kills. Page was led by Junior Molly Locke with 20 Pts (17 Kills, 3 Aces) as Senior Kelly Mills had 15 Kills. Sophomore Maggie Allen had 6 Kills and 1 Block. Senior Setter Tayler McGuire had 38 Assists along with 2 Kills and 2 Aces. Junior Kayla Townsend led the team in block with 2 and also added a kill. Page will have a rematch with Brentwood on Oct. 7 in Brentwood and could see them again in this weekend's Brentwood Invitational at A-Game Sportsplex in Cool Springs.

Molly Locke returned to action tonight and contributed well with 8 Kills and 4 Digs. Kelly Mills had 7 Kills and 9 Digs. Setter Tayler McGuire had 31 Assists and also added 2 Kills, 5 Aces, and 1 Dig. Kayla Townsend and Paige O'Neil both had 3 Kills and Libero Allie Schmidt had 5 Digs and 1 Ace. For Fairview: Tish Baugus had 5 Kills, 1 Block, and 2 Aces. Marisa Hamilton had 4 Kills and 2 Aces. Haylee Trull had 3 Kills and LeAnna Amacher had 12 Assists and also added a Kill. Team Stats: Page: 35K, 3B, 9A, 34 Assists, 23 Digs Lewis: 15K, 1B, 5A, 12 Assists, Digs NA. The Page JV won the opening match 25-8, 25-22.

  15. Page defeated District 12-AA opponent Giles Co. in Pulaski on Thurs., Sept. 2, 2010 3-0 (25-10, 25-10, 25-7). The Page JV team also won 2-0 (25-15, 25-2). In this JV match, Freshman Setter Niki Pewitt served all 25 Pts. in game 2 with numerous Aces. In the Varsity match, SO MH Maggie Allen led the scoring with 15 Pts that included 10 Kills, 2 Blks, and 3 Aces. SR Setter Tayler McGuire led in Aces with 8 and also had 19 Assists. SR OH Kelly Mills had 8 Pts with 5 Kills and 3 Aces. JR OH Scarlet Sanders added 5 Kills and 2 Aces. SR Libero Allie Schmidt had 5 Aces to go along with her 8 Digs. Page improved their overall record to 6-0 and District 12-AA to 4-0. Next week will be busy for the Lady Patriots as they play Lewis Co. on Tues., a quad match with Brentwood and BGA on Wed., Hickman Co. on Thurs., and are in the Brentwood Invitational on Fri. and Sat.

Page picked their third District 12-AA win over Fairview 3-0 (25-13, 25-5, 25-7) Senior Libero Allie Schmidt led the serving with 10 Aces as Maggie Allen served 7 Aces along with 6 Kills at the net. Senior Kelly Mills led the attack in Kills with 9 as Paige O'Neill had 7 and Jessie Sokol had 4. Setter Tayler McGuire had 22 Assists along with 4 Aces and Brady Wade also had 4 Aces. Page JV also won 2-0 (25-10, 25-21) Page Varsity is now 5-0 overall as they travel to Pulaski on Thursday to face another district opponent in Giles Co.
  17. Page won their second match of the night over possible regional opponent 11-AA Harpeth 3-0 (25-18, 25-18, 25-22). Page was led by MH Maggie Allen with 12 Kills and a Block. OH Kelly Mills had 10 Kills and 9 Digs. OH Paige O'Neill had 7 Kills and 1 Ace. Setter Tayler McGuire had 32 Assists along with 1 Ace and 6 Digs. Brady Wade had 2 Aces and 3 Assists. Allie Schmidt led the team with 13 Digs. Page went 4-0 this week to open the season with 2 12-AAA district wins. Page goes on the road next week as they travel to Fairview on Tues, Aug. 31 and to Pulaski on Thurs. Sept. 2 where they face Giles Co. Both matches are in District 12-AA.

It was Senior Night at Franklin as Mady Burnett, Caroline Hendershot, and Alesha Humphrey were honored before the Varsity match began with roses from Coach Kim Miller as their parents joined them at the mid-court area. It was an exciting 5 game match as Page came away with the hard fought victory 3-2 (25-16, 24-26, 25-9, 26-28, 15-6). There was a lot of ebb and flow in the match as Franklin was pumped up for their seniors. I promise to post some team stats when I run the numbers later tonight. Franklin JV won 25-21, 25-22 in the opening match. Page Varsity is now 31-4 for the season, I think. Still a little dazed after the 2 hr. match.
  23. Page finished their district schedule at 12-0 with a win over Hickman Co. 3-0 (25-6, 25-5, 25-6). Page's overall record is now 31-4. The Page JV also won 25-8, 25-23 to also finish the district undefeated. I'll put some details on the varsity match later.

It was Senior Night at Page as Nicole Smith, Chelsea Rion, and April Ganser were honored before the Varsity match with gifts and flowers as their parents came to mid-court to hug their daughters. They will all be missed next season. Page rolled to another district win over Lewis Co. 3-0 (25-11, 25-12, 25-2). Page remains undefeated in District 12-AA with a record of 11-0 and has an overall record of 30-4. The Page JV also won 2-0 (25-19, 25-18) even though the team was down to 6 players due to injury, sickness, and an absence. I'll put some Varsity team stats up later after I run my spreadsheets.
