  1. Stacmot, I don't have an exact date for that 1937 game. A historian from this area provided me with a great number of scores over the years. I have scores dating back to 1926 which was our first year of football. But as I look at old microfilm, I am coming across corrections. If I can find anything, I will let you know. As far as the Millington Star having pregame info, I would doubt it. The editor is sort of a one-man crew so he has his hands full just trying to get the paper out each week.
  2. Stacmot, I am from Millington and have this as being the 14th all time meeting between the 2 with Haywood leading 10-3. The 2016 & 2017 games were in the playoffs. Is this what you have? Haywood Co (3-10) 1927 0-7 L 1937 7-18 L 1945 7-18 L 1972 8-24 L 1973 0-20 L 1974 0-26 L 1975 6-36 L 1976 22-18 W 1977 7-14 L 2003 27-20 OT W 2004 21-20 W 2016 7-60 L 2017 0-55 L
  3. Stacmot, I can save you the trouble of watching the Millington-Melrose game. We committed 6 turnovers with 5 of them coming in the 1st half. Fumbled first play of the game, threw an interception on the second possession, screwed up on special teams on the next possession and on and on and on. You can't beat anyone with that many turnovers. Just hope we give ourselves a fighting chance this week vs Haywood or it will be a short night
  4. 8-4A Millington is 3-0 in league play and has locked in a spot with only Melrose left to play. Craigmont (2-1) is in with only Melrose left and that game could be for the 2 seed. Melrose is currently only 1-0 in league play and finished with Ridgeway, Craigmont & Millington Both Kirby & Ridgeway are winless in league play. If Melrose defeats Ridgeway, it will come down to the winner of the Kirby/Ridgeway game for the 4th spot

  7. I did not realize that the Big 10 went back so far. My records show Millington and Covington (Byars Hall) playing since 1926. Started playing Ripley in 1927 but not consistently year in and year out. In the 40's and 50's we played Haywood and Fayette Co some of the years but not every year. I am guessing we were part of the reformed conference. 1972 was the first year that we played Covington, Haywood, Ripley, and Dyersburg in the same year so I am guessing that's when league play started. Played MUS in 1973 and added JCM in 1974
  8. 7-3A is set for football. Bolivar, Bolton, Covington, Dyersburg, Millington and Ripley. Have already talked to Bolton's coach and they are appealing as they would rather stay with the rest of the SCS teams in 8-3A. Millington has plenty of history with the majority of the teams in this league. The Trojans played Covington (starting when they were Byars-Hall) for 59 straight years from 1926 to 1984 and 71 times overall. Millington was part of that Big 10 league with Dyersburg, Covington, Ripley, Haywood, JCM back in the day. The only team that the Trojans don't have much history with is Bolivar. The two schools have met only twice and that was in 1983 & 1984.
  9. It is owned by the city and numerous schools play their games there
  10. I know they have been talking about it but nothing was finalized yet.
  11. Tim Haney has stepped down as the head football coach of the Bartlett Panthers. I am sure there ought to be quite a few applicants for this job. with only 1 HS in a city of almost 60,000.
  12. Brighton, Covington and Munford are all in Tipton County which is the first county north of Shelby. Fayette Academy is in Fayette Co but everyone else is in Shelby
  13. QB Malik Jackson with 9 total touchdowns-4 passing, 5 rushing
  14. Kalyn Grandberry-Raleigh Egypt. Has played in the equivalent of 7 games this year. Has 1546 yds rushing (10.8/carry) with 32 TD. Has 34 total TD's which breaks the regular season TD record for Shelby County and he has one game remaining. Averages 185.4 all purpose yds per game & his team is undefeated & #2 in the state
  15. Are the Crockett Co games broadcast on the radio and/or online? If so, who does them? I host a radio show in Memphis and would like to have someone on to preview this game. Any help that could be provided is appreciated.
  16. I want to just wanted to thank AD Mike Poteete, Jon Davidson and Andy Collins for all of their help in securing a place in the press box for me to do my radio show and stats. It was a great atmosphere, great hospitality and a hard hitting football game. I can't address the things on the field until I see the film. What I can address is the lack of class of grown men who don't understand that this a high school football game with 14-18 yr old boys. I have had several reports of men who were over by the Millington sideline that were talking trash to the Trojan football players. Really? 30,40,50 yr old men talking trash to a teenager? Buy a ticket, sit in the stands and cheer YOUR team on. Nothing more, nothing less.
  17. The QB in question had been cleared to practice on Monday of last week. He practiced two days and they did not make a decision until right before the game that he was going to be able to play.
  18. They have played one team this year that ran the wing T but it wasn't your typical wing T team. This coaching staff is very familiar with the offense since they ran it for about a 10 year period until 2012. Millington has only been in the spread since then. Am looking forward to a good hard hitting game and may the best team win.
  19. Interesting game. LC is a predominantly running team. Millington used to be that same type of team and ran that same offense until a few years ago when they changed to the spread. Trojans have been hit with injuries to key positions the last half of the year. They are on their 3rd quarterback (a freshman) and on their third running back (also a freshman) since week 5. The defense is still pretty good. Take away the MBA & Liberty games and Millington has allowed 70 pts in 8 games. I am interested in seeing how we try to stop #23, Lovelace. He is quite a ballplayer.
  20. Randy72, what if there were 9 eligible teams in your natural quad and you somehow were #9 according to the tiebreaker standings. If they don't move you, you don't make the playoffs. The goal is to get the top 32 teams and once you do that, then you seed them. Next year you won't have to worry about it because the TSSAA has changed the system and gone back to the old way. Top 4 in each league make the playoffs. Want a home game? Finish first or second. If you don't, then you can't complain.
  21. I think Independence gets shipped to quad 4. They have been sent there multiple times before when there weren't enough teams in that area. I see no reason why they wouldn't do it again
  22. Munford runs the wing T and will physically pound you. Averaging almost 300 yds a game on the ground. Will throw the ball very little if at all. They will chew up the clock so when your offense gets the ball, they need to score. It is not at all out of the ordinary to see a 7,8 or 9 minute drive by the Cougars.
  23. KWC, I believe you have it nailed down. The only thing that I would add is that if the playoffs started today, there would be 6 teams with 4 wins that get in. So I think that if a team gets to 5, more than likely they will earn a spot. Bartlett will beat Kingsbury and get to 5-5 and Cordova has a chance to beat Arlington to go 5-5. As far as the teams above them, Farragut and Germantown are the most likely to drop. Farragut has to play Maryville and Germantown can't get a fifth win because they played their 10th game last week. The two teams directly ahead of Bartlett and Cordova (Mt Juliet and Bradley Central) play 1-8 and 2-7 teams this week so you would think they would win those games. Assuming White Station, Bartlett & Cordova all win, the quad could look like this: 1)Whitehaven vs 8)Cordova 4)White Station (if they finish in second place) vs 5)Central 3)Houston vs 6)Collierville 2)Arlington vs 7)Bartlett If White Station is a wild card then: 1)Whitehaven vs 8)Cordova 4)Central vs 5)Collierville 3)Houston vs 6)White Station 2)Arlington vs 7)Bartlett Even if White Station loses they are a strong candidate to get in because of their strength of schedule. They are currently the highest rated of the 4 win teams and I think they would still get in the playoffs with a loss unless all of the 4 win teams below them all won and that isn't very likely. If Cordova doesn't win and they only send one team this way, it would have to be Independence simply for the fact that they are the next closest school to this area and they have sent them here numerous times before when there weren't enough teams to qualify.
