  1. I was really shocked when I heard the news of Chad Franklin's death Friday nite. My heart goes out to the Franklin family and everyone in the Chapel Hill community.
  2. 3-0 Hillsboro plays at 3-0 Tullahoma this Friday nite. The Burros three toughest Region games left are with Tullahoma, Overton and Shelbyville, with the latter two being home games for the Burros. If Hillsboro gets by Tullahoma, they very well could go undefeated during the regular season. Does anyone think Tullahoma has a chance at winning this game in Region 5-4A?
  3. Don Rhoton has had a fall league in the past for high school age players. Give him a call.
  4. Coffee County's win at Cookeville last nite sure got the attention of everyone in Tullahoma. Most important for the Red Raiders, it was a Region victory on the road. Congratulations to Coach Breeden and staff for a job well done. It should be a great Coffee Pot game in Tullahoma Friday nite and I don't think the Wildcats will be over-looking the Red Raiders with Hillsboro coming in the following week. Coach Olive commented that he thought Coffee Co was primarily a passing team, but the Red Raiders had over 300 yds rushing against a good Cookeville team. Tullahoma will have its work cut out for them Friday nite.
  5. Former Tullahoma High School pitcher, Dejuan Brazelton, was called up this week-end from AA Orlando to AAA Durham and pitched the 2nd game of a DH against the Charlotte Knights. He won the game 2-0. He pitched 5 innings, game up 5 hits, walked 1 and struck out 6. He was brought up to bolster the Durham Bulls pitching staff for the play-offs. After the play-offs he probably will get a major league call-up.
  6. Jarrod Smith is going to Motlow and Matt Carter is going to Vol St.
  7. I think David Mays, former head coach at Tennessee Tech, would be a great choice.
  8. Congratulations to Craig Reavis and the LaVernge baseball team on winning the 2002 TSSAA AAA baseball championship tonite at Engel Stadium in Chattanooga. Coach Reavis may be the only active coach in Tennesse to play on a State Championship baseball team, at Tullahoma, and coach one as well. Kudos to Knoxville Farragut for a fine season and state runnerup.
  9. I have umpired little league games before, but not on a regular basis. In little league, kids are learning the game and so are most umpires. In a perfect world, umpires would get more training, but most umpires work or they are young men who are trying to make a little money. Major league umps miss calls just like little league umps do, but give them credit for trying. Its a tough job. You're not gonna get experienced umpires for the most part at the little league level. If anyone out there gets mad at the umps in little league and they think they can do better, then they need to buy some umpire gear and do it themselves.
