  1. I will be coming from Charlotte, NC via I-40 west. Could someone give me directions from I-40 to the stadium and if possible the street address. Looking forward to this Friday and hoping the Trojans will show a little mercy on my Swain County Maroon Devils. So far it's one for the Trojans and one for the Devils and both have been pretty good games. Does anyone know if this series is continuing next year?
  2. Just wondering what you guys think about the team this year and will Swain County have a chance this time around? Swain was hit pretty hard with graduation in 04 (including Cody White and Nick Zimmerman) but will return a pretty darn good QB and several seniors on both lines. I didn't make it to the game in "03 but I was there last year and am looking forward to making the trip your place this year.
  3. Looks like we had the same idea Kevin. I hope you get some responses because this ACR thing is really starting to stink up the countryside. aka. Diablo
  4. "Swain County? Well this small country school should be no match for a TN 4A region champ like West." FLYINPRO,apparently you know little of the tradition of highschool football in Western North Carolina? This "small country school" lays claim to 6 state championship football teams and has the most playoff wins in the history of highschool football in North Carolina. In addition Swain County holds the record for the highest percentage of playoff wins at just over 79% since 1972. The Maroon Devils regularly play and win against 3-A teams. This year they open the season with two 3A teams and two 4-A teams (Motown West & ACR, NCHSAA 4-A champions. I'm not saying the Devils are going to beat the Morristown team but I surely wouldn't bet against them either! FYI: Swain County is the alma mater of Heath Shuler (little old QB from a "small country school"). Also Murphy High School (another Smoky Mtn Conference member) is the the alma mater of Carl Pickens. If you recall, both of these young men had a huge impact in U.T. football.
  5. Randy3116, Thanks for the reply and the directions. I am really looking forward to this game. This team might be a little too much for little old Swain County but it should be a fun game to watch. The Devils usually dress about 40-50 players which is very good for such a small school and believe me..they will not be intimidated by a 4-A team. The Devils have quite a reputation of their own and play larger teams year after year because of the difficulty in scheduling 1-A opponents other than conference teams. Mark this down as a must game to watch...the Devils will be a huge underdog and rightfully so, but I think everyone who watches this game will be impressed.
  6. I have just heard that Morristown West (4-A) will be playing Swain County (1-A) from the Smoky Mountain Conference (SMC) in Western North Carolina. Does anyone know the date and place? I understand that Morristown West is a school with a great winning tradition In football. I'm afraid I don't know a great deal about the Eastern Tennessee schools but I will tell you what I know about the SMC. From 1963 to present SMC schools own (36) state football titles (6 of which belong to Swain County). The most notable of the players from the SMC include Heath Shuler (Swain) and Carl Pickens (Murphy). You guys there in Volunteer Country may have heard of these two. Meanwhile....back to the present, Swain returns almost all of it's defense and a pretty good stable of running backs. I don't think the QB situation has been worked out yet, but there are a couple of guys that look very promising. If the Devils don't get beat to death in the first four games (two 4-A teams, and two 3-A teams), they should do OK. Somebody please send me directions on how to get there if the game is in Morristown!!
