I wouldn't throw the rest of MBA's season in the toilet just yet. In 2002 they lost to Baylor at home bringing their record to 4-4. They then proceeded to win their last 5 games as well as a State title. Different team, different year...but stranger things have happened.

Yes I am. And i can proudly say I witnessed the wolverines upset the irish last weekend in south bend. it was top 5 greatest sports experiences of my life. incredible.

A quick note...the game is being played on Thursday night instead of Friday due to the Jewish holiday Rosh Hashanah. I have a lot of respect for these two teams for changing their schedules. I hope every other school in Nashville follows their example. On another note, I'll be attending my first MBA game in over two years. Roll Red.

I just watched this show for the first time yesterday. It follows the Hoover Buccaneers from Hoover, AL who are currently ranked #1 by the USA Today poll. I thought the show would be really lame/cliche as it's on MTV. I was surprised. The producers do a great job of capturing almost every element of playing high school football. I suggest watching it. Wednesday nights @9:30 CST I believe. Does anyone else have comments about the show?

Well said. Can you imagine the rivalries? In Louisville, the Trinity v. St. X game draws near 30,000 strong every year. Who wouldn't love a high school football environment like that.

I can help with this one. THe JV team just consists of Varsity players who don't play in the Varsity games. There's not a strict JV roster but it usually consists of the Varsity scout team players.

Shouldn't Briarcrest have to earn their right to be included in the name of the conference? I mean come on. The new guy shows up and we're automatically giving him the same privledges as everyone else? I'd like to see a few state titles before we start calling it the Elite Eight.

How is the O/D-Line for CBHS this year? When we played them they consistently had huge guys on the line. It was nice to hear that Ryan drew a huge crowd in spite of not playing "home" games. Good luck to both teams.

Can anyone update me on MBA's injury status? I'm taking MBA 24-10.

I think it's funny that this comment hasn't been played yet: Who in their right mind would accuse MBA of having "superior athletes?" You'd be hard-pressed to describe great MBA teams as: another order of magnitude in terms of size, strength, and speed. MBA has been winning state championships for 135+ years using a combination of the following: coaching, discipline, intelligence and intensity. Show me a coach who can get players to play harder for him than Ricky Bowers and I'll show you Vince Lombardi (obvious hyperbole, but you get the picture).

I don't think that athletics weren't that big of a factor in the decision to found Ensworth High School. I would hope that in a few years EHS fits in well with MBA, Harpeth Hall, and USN as one of the top private schools in the city. As for athletics, I think it's way too early to know how Ensworth will compete with MBA, BA, Ryan, etc. Check back in 10 years.

JP2, I'm not sure I would describe the EHS/JP2 scrimmage as you have. If my memory serves me correctly, Ensworth shut down JP2's offense for about 8-9 plays to open the scrimmage and then gave up a long run. True Ensworth's defense gave up several (2-3) long runs, but they were fairly successful at stopping JP2 offense, especially the passing. Ensworth's offense also moved the ball down the field for a few scores. If the two teams played a varsity game I'm sure JP2 would win. But, I don't think the scrimmage was complete domination.

to answer your question, i would tell you that that topic has been discussed ad nauseum on this website. check out some of the football archives and search for mba/riverdale to get people's take on it.

rollredroll, can you comment at all on the line play of both teams? did howe make any difficult throws? or was it primarily the case of finding the open receiver?i missed the scrimmage as i had a practice of another team to attend. thanks.

trinity is a well coached team with a lot of class so you can always expect them to play hard. i haven't seen them on tape but the past two years both teams have matched up pretty well in terms of size and talent. should be a good game. if it's hot on saturday night, cramps and hydration will be an issue. perhaps the team standing at the end of the game wins. who knows. best of luck to the big red.

I miss the game last Saturday (out of town- lame I know). Congrats to Byrnes on the win and best of luck. From what I hear you have an outstanding team and I will track yall's progress so you better be near the top of the USA Today at the end of the season. To the MBA team-keep working hard and good things will happen. I'm sure Coach Rut has reminded yall of the 2002 season (when we were 4-4 at one point and won 5 straight to win it all) every day at practice. Also, congrats to everyone on Coach T for the healthy debate. Good to see everyone isn't taking shots and cutting each other all the time. I'm off to Ann Arbor on Friday so war on the wolverines as Rose Bowl Champs this year. Redtwin-the dawgs are set for a beating at Neyland this year.

I wouldn't put much stock in a single thing Gary Rankin says. Of course he's going to brag about "pounding" MBA in the scrimmage. I would love to hear his answer when asked why he won't schedule MBA in a regular season game.

Sometimes the sports section is even worth reading. I think the Tennessean should run it every other day so at least there would be stuff to read.

Could someone please revive the "you know you're a riverdale football player if..." thread? It was definately my favorite of last year.
