  1. Wow, its amazing how much confidece you guys assert in the very sparse knowledge you have about the sport. I guess I'll start with the first guy to post after my last post: Bumbi is holding no less than 70 miles a week, with 85 as his peak- not quite 100- so much for your "guarantee" However, in response to the other poster, 100 miles a week is not uncommon amongst elite high school runners. Typically, the top few runners in the nation will run over 100 a week, and so Bumbi is obviously an exception. Also, when running 100 miles a week, you don't have to run 8 minute miles. For example, when I ran 73 miles a couple weeks ago, I averaged around 6:40 pace for the week, and that still isn't enough to keep up with Bumbi for more than 6 or so miles the times Ive run with him. The point of high mileage is to build a strong aerobic threshold over a great deal of QUALITY miles. Example- running 8:30 pace at the end of a 12 mile run because you started out too fast is not quality, but starting out at 7:30 pace and ending the 12th mile at under 6 minute pace is very quality. The more quality miles you can tally in one week, the faster you'll be able to run any distance from 800 up, basically. There are pro milers who run as many miles or close to as many miles as pro marathoners. The difference is that on top of all that base training, the milers are throwing in a lot of speed work...
  2. Does winning 5 of the last 7 including the last 4 in a row, with one of them setting the state record for lowest score in the state meet count?
  3. Alright, I saw that this aspect of the Region 3 race was left out. BCHSTrack, Im sure you were about to start one, but I thought Id go ahead and get it up- I couldnt take waiting any longer. I think if this is successful (or even if its not....) Ill go ahead and make separate threads for the girls and guys region 3 AAA COY, then Ill make a thread for the girls and guys A-AA region 3 COY, and then after that, I might go ahead and make an all encompassing thread that discusses the finer points that we cant aptly discuss in all these separate threads (like course terrain, fan support, weather, etc.) Alright, let the discussion begin... thumb
  4. FRA was good last year? They went into state with most people predicting them to finish around fifth in this order: Sullivan Central, CCS, Lipscomb, Elizabethton, FRA So, e-town, in answer to your question- FRA loses its #1 and #2 runners (both top 10 finishers at state during highschool) and their next guy finished mid-twenties at state, so on paper, it looks like you should be worrying about some other teams. No one ever worried about FRA during 3 of the last 4 seasons, so why start now?
  5. two mcminn guys ran 100 miles? yea............ anyway, Im not going to lie about my mileage- here's what I ran (in mpw, starting a few weeks ago): -41 -40 -47 -51 -50 (last week) - This week, my goal is 65 (70 if I feel good about it) goals the rest of the summer: -another 65-70 -60 -45 -50
  6. OK, Im testing the coasterboarder name.... it hasnt been working lately, even though I have always been able to type a message it wouldnt ever appear in the thread. So, I switched to coasterboarding...... edit: yay, it worked; however, my original request (which you are moderating right now under "coasterboarding" still stands- I still would like back coasterboard and my moderating seat. Thanks...
  7. you gotta go with the better arme, so Arms is my man...
  8. way to bring back a dead thread- major props to the topper...
  9. I think thats what he meant- stating that 13 wasnt all that high considering his range- I could be wrong though...
  10. Thats almost faster than squeaky himself ran this year...
  11. When's everyone begin their training for Cross? Im doing three weeks of insane biking for cross training then building up to about 60 max MPW before college starts. What's everyone else planning? -just so whoever moved the last thread titled like this knows, I am not a plus member, therefore, I shall continue to post about cross country in the track forum until coacht deems it "fall sports season"
  12. I just want to congratulate Ben- he's a great LAX player and an even greater man- best of luck as your career continues...
  13. When's everyone begin their training for Cross? Im doing three weeks of insane biking for cross training then building up to about 60 max MPW before college starts. What's everyone else planning?
  14. I think its disapointing that Navy had to lose. They had a goal get taken away from them at the very beginning that wouldve put them up 1-0 and ultimately may have tied the game. I was really pulling for Navy, but it was great seaseon for them anyway! Go Midies!
  15. four minutes and two overtimes....
  16. what would possess you to come in after averyone else is already out? how sure of yourself can you be, seriously?
  17. The idea proposed is that natchez trace would be closed and the bleachers would go there. I think there would be plenty of room
  18. Temporary Bleachers bud Best track in state+best central location+temporary bleachers= Best State meet to date!
  19. Seriously, there is so much the TSSAA could do to make the Track State Meet so much better. Why have it in the least central location when a better track is available in the most central location? well sir, i am all for getting it in Nashville, but then FRA and Lipscomb might have a little "homefield" advantage. just a thought?? Yea, I guess we should have the meet somewhere where there are no highschools within a 50 mile radius, thus eliminating "home-field advantage", lets say.....North Dakota....?
  20. lol- surely you're not suggesting that anyone would jump on Strang's bandwagon after the race much like the way it happened when he beat Bumbi at FL regionals?
  21. How can you disrespect one of only 2 runners under 15 at state CC this year and the top TN footlocker regionals finisher? Unfortunately for Strang, the other under 15 was 13 seconds ahead of him and then came back and beat him at footlocker nationals. Strang is indeed a national caliber runner. Its unfortunate for him that he has to share the limelight with bumbi. I respect Strang a whole lot, although Id probably respect him more if I knew him and if saw him run as much I see Bumbi run. But the fact is, I dont know him or see him a lot, so I have to go by times. And the times say that Strang is a great runner (Colorado is one heckuva a running school) but Bumbi is better, and I think hes enough better to win 3 events Friday- Strang or no Strang...
  22. Man, I sure hope so- they absolutely dominate everything- especially the major sports that the TSSAA is concerned with (Basketball, Football, and Baseball). If they dont get moved into DII where they can compete with schools of their own calbier soon, there may be an uprising of all these poor teams they keep beating up on..... [/sarcasm]
  23. Hey, I just thought Id let everyone know that FRA just beat South Fulton 5-2 Also, being an FRA fan with not much softball interest before this year, how does the tournament format work? What are the scenarios? If FRA loses the first game against GP, is their next game still for the championship or do they go to another bracket and have to work their way back to the finals? Or do I have no idea what Im talking about? And congratulations to Laura Matthews on being named to the MTSCA south team! Go FRA!
