  1. Doesn't Heritage have one of the fastest, if not the fastest guy in Blount County playing for them, Kyle Koe? I also believe their kicker is one of the best in Blount County.
  2. Best team?? I kind of like the 1998 boys. In particular the dubbing of Wm Blount comes to mind. Not because of the score, but because of the newspaper coverage of Wm Blount that week. WB was invincible, they were pictured if I remember correctly around a military vehicle with bands of bullets One young man who I will keep nameless came onto the filed to receive the kick off sprouting two middle fingers as he took his position. He received the opening kick off only to fumble the ball which MHS recovered. Coach Hammondtree did not let up until the very last minutes of that game. Final Score MHS 65 Wm Blount 7. No mercy rule back then. Talking to Hammondtree way back then and he felt his team had be slighted and he used that article to full advantage. The elizabethton game was a very good win at Elizabethton with QB Shawn Witten a Va Tech commitment and a freshman name Jason Witten played in that game QB Witten was a very elusive QB. Final Score MHS 20 EHS 16. back to work.
  3. My era spans the last 25 years plus, so my apologies to those I did not see. I have seen Spradlin on film though, darn good. Talked to him the other day and nice to see him doing well. During my time, throw in Shawn Prevo, Michael Potter and Carl Stewart. hard to pick the best. Single game rushing record held by Coulter Grove Middle School teacher and MHS Coach Jason Hicks 212 yds vs Smyrna. Kicker-Zack Sharp. MHS has been lucky in having some excellent kickers over the years but 111 PAT's in row is a record that will be hard to beat. Most memorable, the late FG by Justin Dierdorf to beat Halls late and his 50 yarder against Central. Center I'll have to go with my favorites Brandon Waters and Jay Guillermo. QB by the numbers Brent Burnette , honorable mention to Jason Phillips and Cade Thompson. Just our leadership, Nick Myers, Garrett and Derek Hunt. Best receiver, Kelby Brock and very close behind Tyler and Ryan Maples. Honorable mention to my favorite David sweetland. MHS did not throw as much when the Maples and Sweetland were reeking havoc on the field. Just behind them Kyle Harris. DB I'll go with "The Shark" Scot Wilks, Andrew Clements and both Maples. Got to go. Finish later. Going to review some audio tapes from way back when.
  4. Compton. Stats are one thing, but talent jumps at you whether you play 2 quarters or 4 quarters. With the advantage of video being viewed ubiquitously on outlets like HUDL you can very thoroughly analyze. So stats my draw you to the players, but its only a small factor. Coaches words have a lot, a lot to do with it as this is probably where a lot players are made. So does the quality of the school and quality of courses taken and grades. With a program like Maryville, one will get noticed if you have the talent and the smarts no mater how many minutes you play.
  5. The same thing was said when we moved from 4A to 5A. Now we are in 6A. And in case you don't know it, we are a 5A school playing up. Is your high school willing to do that?
  6. With teams like Trezevant, McCallie, Warren Co, etc. D-2 does not have as many power houses as you imply week in and week out. Add the fact that they can recruit, well it's a different horse. Would you like to unleash Quarles and staff to a recruiting format? Then let's talk.
  7. Can you imagine, Maryville, currently a class 5A team opting to play in 6A (haters forget that Maryville is a 5A school), moving to D-2 and being able to get any player from anywhere? I don't think anyone around the state wants that to happen.
  8. MURVUL once lost their first for games and then ran the table winning a state title.
  9. Here we go Rebels fans. As soon as we beat the unbeatable, we aren't as good as some"other team". We couldn't possibly compete with the SEC of high school football (6A-2). Now that that myth has been debunked.....
  10. He said to me after the game, he should of took a knee. He felt it was a safe play, but a QB just trying to make something happen, did. But it happened to the opposing team. . He was sick about it.
  11. First of all we are talking about out of state travel, not Tennessee travel. Or did you forget? Dodging, we are experts at it, just like ND playing a cushy schedule every year. See how easy it it to get off topic. Start the GO FUND now, then call Maryville Athletics. The answer will still be NO. Most attendance is down, including Middle Tennessee High Schools. My sources are Middle Tennessee coaches, what are yours?
