  1. Heh, I remember that. It was awesome. Well, not for you guys. But still.
  2. Lots of common opponents for these two: COOKEVILLE White County - Lost 6-32 Tullahoma - Won 40-20 COFFEE COUNTY White County - Won 16-6 Tullahoma - Won 43-39 WARREN COUNTY White County - Lost 48-49 Tullahoma - Won 62-14 SHELBYVILLE White County - Lost 7-41 Tullahoma - Lost 29-39 FRANKLIN COUNTY White County - Lost 14-52 Tullahoma - Won 35-21
  3. This insane insistence on public prayer when nobody is trying to prohibit private prayer is all about showing how righteous and Christian those doing the praying are. Otherwise, private prayer would be perfectly acceptable. And, in case you are unfamiliar with your Bible, praying for the purpose of making others think how pious you are is a sin. Not that it isn't a forgivable sin, mind you. But let's stop pretending that this is about God. Mat 6:5 And when thou prayest, thou shalt not be as the hypocrites [are]: for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward. Mat 6:6 But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret, and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly. Mat 6:7 But when ye pray, use not vain repetitions, as the heathen [do]: for they think that they shall be heard for their much speaking. Mat 6:8 Be not ye therefore like unto them: for your Father knoweth what things ye have need of, before ye ask him.
  4. They're just upholding the Constitution. The Supreme Court ruled this about ten years ago, there was a huge fuss about it then, surprised so few in this thread remember that. Anyway, I hadn't heard about any school actually complying with the ruling until now. Good for them. It only takes one courageous act to get the ball rolling.
  5. White County and Cumberland County are in their own little "group". Whoever wins their game wins the group. It's born out of geographical necessity.
  6. At least we go into the playoffs with momentum, this would really be a downer if we'd won our game in week two or something.
  7. Great game, Jets fans. See you next year, and good luck in basketball.
  8. Neither one of these teams deserves to be in the playoffs. The Jets will win. And the weather is supposed to be good: Up to two inches of rain, winds at 40 mph, and all right at gametime!
  9. They have an AWFUL turnover problem. And, at least against Cookeville, they were completely out-speeded. Our guys could have been running in concrete shoes.
  10. Only Sparta could lose a game like that. As it was happening, a dozen past games that ended similarly flashed before my eyes. Good job Jets. Good luck the rest of the season, and hey, look forward to playing you guys IN REGION next year.
  11. Well, you neglected to mention Warren County. That's not so far. Also, you will only have to travel to two of your four opponents per year. That's not that bad at all. Contrast it to what we have now. White County's nearest region opponent is Rhea County, an hour and a half drive at least. The rest of them are in Chattanooga region. Five years ago, they moved us to this region from one where our nearest opponent was Tullahoma. Five years before that, we had been in the Chattanooga one. So it's been at least fifteen years since Sparta has played a region game within an hour and a half of home. (other than the home games at least) And there were seven region games per season, unlike the four this plan would have, so we were travelling to Chattanooga, Nashville, Columbia, Cleveland, Lawrenceburg, Shelbyville four times a year, instead of two. And you will develop history and rivalry with these schools now that you play them every year. And you get six games a year of out-of-region matchups with schools you DO have tradition with. It's a win-win situation.
  12. I think White County will win, but probably not by 24 as earlier predicted.
  13. Well, it's too early to judge Kerr just yet, either for good or bad.
  14. Why don't you go ahead and beat Cookeville too? Just something to think about from your friends in Sparta.
  15. Do you guys always rush the opponents' field when you win? Just curious. Liked how the Cookeville students ran the flag into the stadium. Some said they ran it all the way from Cookeville. Some said they rode in a truck to the city limits. Which was it? Perhaps. But certainly it will be the largest crowd of the year.
  16. And Cookeville fans rush onto the Sparta field after their momentous achivement. /wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" />
  17. It's a shame when parents have the maturity level of a squalling baby like this. The only one who is harmed is the kid. If I was him I'd a belted the old man a good one right across the face for acting like that in public.
  18. It is relative. If you make 4 bucks a week, and then all of the sudden you are making $40 a week, you get to call it a "raise" even though many would scoff at that income as well. Sparta football was bad, very very bad, before Coach Brown showed up. Not only in wins and losses, but morale, fan support, etc. Despite the fact that we "never even won a region championship yet", almost everybody in White County is very pleased with the performance of our football team the past few years. You go to the game, and you actually think they may have a shot at beating their opponent. And about 50% of the time, they do! People who are in the playoffs every year just don't understand being excited about that, but hey. We are and that's all that matters.
  19. My uninformed guess is that he likes the challenge of going to a school that is down, and building up a system for success, and then moving on to the next one. Just speculation, of course.
