  1. I saw on unapproved website.com where TB Keenan Kolinsky was offered a full ride to play football at Air Force. Does anyone know of other schools looking at the Tailback? Also is he being projected as a TB or FB in college? Keenan is a big kid, I could see him putting on another 20-30 pounds easy in a college program and being a fullback.
  2. Being a CAK Fan and seeing the rivalry between Alcoa and GP, I am all for Alcoa moving to the GP Region next year....I bet there are several other teams that will second my motion!
  3. It is no secret I am a CAK fan. I watched Alcoa all the way through the playoffs and I will agree that matchups make the difference. I was really more interested in...did the competition get tougher as Alcoa advanced through the playoffs. Sure teams can have off nights. But the physical part of it, was Goodpasture more physical, faster, coached better. Their is no way for the system to be perfect due to travel time and expiences. The best way would be to do like a BCS rating using AP, Murphy Fair, A couple of other rating systems and have 1 play 32, 2 play 31, 3 play 30....so forth until you get to the Championship game. I like the fact that every region game means so much....every night of the regular season counts, I would hate to loose that. I believe nothing compares to FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS....It brings communities, schools and people of all classes together in hopes that "Their" team will pull it out. I am not sure CAK would match up well with Goodpasture, Webb ran the type of offense that Goodpasture ran and CAK had trouble with it. I wasnt trying to justify that. I do think that CAK's offense when it is clicking can be very explosive and their defense is solid. CAK doesnt have the speed to keep up with Alcoa....Speed is the great equalizer! Just wanted to see if you think the new system was good or bad! How is Cobbs backup? I know you all are solid at all other postions, just wasnt sure how the QB position looked.
  4. Alcoa High School Fans and Players....I want your opinion on the way that 2A did the seeding this year. Do you feel that it fell out so you were playing a better team each week? Who in your opinion was the best 2A team you faced this year all the way to the Gold Ball? Congrats on 4 in a row!
  5. Harrison Smith (Catholic) Dennis Rogan (Fulton) Andre Sterling (Farragut) Nick Rivez (Farragut) Mr. Anderson (AE) Zach Helton (Central) Joseph Bennett (CAK) Torey Works (Bearden) Matt Richardson (Bearden) Jake Ryan (West) Lee Smith (Powell) Byron Hubbard (Central and Powell) This is Knoxville only...I could name this many players from Maryville, Alcoa and Oak Ridge to go along with it.
  6. I am a bearden fan of approx 25 years...I will say that call did not loose the game for us. There were 3 quarters of football played where Bearden could have put points on the board, you can never look at an onside desperasion kick and say that lost us the game. I hate it for the Seniors, was I mad, heck yes....but with that being said, the execution wasnt their until Smyrna went to a prevent defense. Congrats to Smyrna, now go win another State Championship and beat the crap out of the team you play so we can say we were the second best team in the state!
  7. Just a clarification of the High School rules....It is not a "CHOP BLOCK" if the contact occurs with initial surge, you are allowed to cut below the waist. I saw Beardens Center do it all night and it was completely legal, you can check the rule book if you dont believe me....I coached defensive lineman for 4 years recently and that was one thing we worked on every day, was getting your hands down and pushing the O-Line in the ground. Farraguts nose was shooting a gap, typically the strong A gap, when the center has to snap the ball and block that is really the only option he has against a fast D-lineman. But on it being dirty, I hate it, but it is Legal!
  8. I was at the Game tonight. What was up with Farragut taking the field and staring at the Bearden team after they were on their sideline and running all the way over to bearden's side of the field hash mark throwing there arms up in the air? Were they jesturing to the fans or were they taunting Bearden's team? I know this is a heated rivalry, I was part of it in the 90's, it seemed after the game there were no hard feelings, back in the 90's they wouldnt have talked after the game. Just wasnt sure on the deal when Farragut took the field at the start of the game. Congrats to Bearden tonight, my senior year was the '95 season when we lost to Riverdale in the quarterfinals....way to go getting to the Semi's and beating Farragut. Glad I was able to come, both teams played hard and the score was closer than the scoreboard suggested. Beardens D did shut down Sterling. Which I was very surprised to see, I had heard the best you could hope for was to contain him, but he never really got rolling.
  9. I wanted to comment on Cobb on here in case noone reads the CAK Alcoa post. He pulled one of the classiest moves in the CAK game. Cobb was holding for an extra point and a CAK rusher cramped up laying out for the ball. Mr. Cobb did not hesitate, he grabbed the CAK players foot and stayed on the field stretching him out after both teams went to the sidelines and then helped the CAK player up and they patted each other on the helmet. That earned my respect for him as much as anything he did tonight. Not only is he one heck of a football player, but with that move he showed he is one heck of a human being!
  10. Cobb was a one man wrecking crew tonight. When he wasnt running it the length of the field, he was passing it. I do have a question for the Alcoa fans, Thompsan is one heck of a receiver, do you all have any other receiving threats that we just havent seen yet, the TE looked good, but dropped a few passes and had the fumble. I am just wondering, CAK didnt have anyone who could run with Thompson, but if their is a team that has the speed to run with Thompson, do you all have another receiver that can hit the home run. I remember that was the hard thing about last year and even worse the year before, if you had Sommer, Kyrus, and Warren.....Anyone of them could take it to the house every time the touched the ball. I thought CAK played a good game, hats off to Alcoa for coming out at haftime and responding. I thought the momentum had swung CAK's way and if they could keep it to a 14 point game they would have a shot in the 4th quarter. But Mr. Cobb made sure that didnt happen. To all the Warriors who played their last games tonight, you have nothing to be ashamed of, great run...You guys went out with a bang, playing your guts out. I hate to see you all leave, but congratulations on a fine season, when 2 of your 3 losses are to Alcoa, I think you can classify that as a good season. Alcoa, good luck in the playoffs. I want to comment on Cobb as well, he was holding for an extra point and a CAK rusher cramped up laying out in an attempt to block it. The player from CAK got a cramp in his calf and in one of the classiest moves, i saw Cobb stretch out the CAK player. That earned as much respect from me as anything he did on the field tonight. I thought that was a class act all the way! I hope he gets the 2A back of the year. He was the difference maker on the field tonight and I believe he is a classy individual!
  11. This game should be interesting. I know that Alcoa's young players have gotten better. And the first time these two games, was the first time CAK was playing without 2 of their usual starters who had season ending injuries against Webb the week before, so they were playing with new people in the position. Both teams should be improved. I believe if CAK can keep Hodge in check they will have a shot in this game. That is no easy task though. Maybe I should say make Alcoa pass it to beat them, because Cobb is like another RB. Thompson is a heck of a player, I just think that when the run game is succesful for any team it makes them tough to beat. Good Luck to both teams, I would say whoever wins this game has a good shot at being in Murfreesboro, at least they wont be tested again until they get to the Semi Finals. DCA I have heard is a decent team this year. Cant wait to see this one play out on the field. Good Luck to both teams.
  12. Why did Rockwoods Left Tackle jump offsides all night and they only called it one time? We can ask questions like that from the start of the game to the end. But the scored ended up they way it was. Heck Rockwood is in a better position in the playoffs than CAK, they have our regions 1-3 in the top side of the bracket with the other regions 1-3 in the lower part with Rockwood, if history repeats itself you will be in the quarter finals playing (Alcoa, CAK or Loudon) being pollitically correct, you will get to play CAK again in the third round!
  13. Joseph Bennett LB/FB CAK in Knoxville, He is 6'1" weighs 200 during season, 205-210 during offseason. He has been timed in the 40 at 4.43, but on the track he is at least a consistent 4.5 second 40 yard dash, he has the football speed intangable, he runs a lot faster during a football game, when chasing someone or being chased. He has already been offered by Ohio University, and Marshall I believe has an offer on the table. There are SEC schools looking at him, I know Alabama showed a lot of interest at one point. He has been all State his Sophmore and Junior year. He is putting up all State numbers both as a receiving FB and as a Linebacker, his downfall is that he is playing Linebacker in High School and he will probably be a Strong Safety type or weakside LB in college. But in the CAK defensive system you have to put your best athlete at Middle LB and let him make plays. He is a play maker. I am not sure why, but he has been left off every list. But coaches at the next level seem interested. He has had good games his Junior year against Alcoa, but I think it is detrimental for a kid to play in a smaller school division unless they go deep into the playoffs. Which Alcoa has knocked CAK off in the second round every year. He has led all divisions in Tackles in the Knoxville Prep Xtra Tackles column his junior and is leading again his senior year. Everyone is skeptical that he is good, until they see him play, now does he have a great game everytime he steps on the field, no, but he is always around the ball as a LB. He also played banged up against Webb, but he still put up decent numbers considering the outcome of the game. Does anyone have any advice on who decides on these list or how they are put together, because the AP reporters have seen his ability by electing him All State in 2A over some strong Linebackers.
  14. The last two seasons Asheville school has not run the wing T and the closest thing CAK has seen to it is Rockwood, who runs the double wing. Just let me tell you the Wing T is set up on deception, you think the ball is going one way and all of a sudden it was handed off the other. The Keys to stopping the wing T are simple. 1. The FB/TB gets tackled by the Middle Linebacker on every play. 2. The guards take you to the ball, if the guard pulls the d lineman better get on his butt and chase. If the guard fires out. You make a big pile. 3. Usually teams that run the Wing T throw just enough to keep you honest. You make a Wing T team beat you by passing the football. 4. Everytime you have a chance to hit the QB on a pass play you lay him out. There is a lot of play action in the passing game, so it takes up time 5. DE's cannot play up field or else it is one less person they have to block. Not saying anything about CAK's offense here, it should be fine, but the thing about defense is you have to be disciplined and not go flying with the fakes. Slow Read and play assignment football!
