  1. What is the deal with all of these teams moving there games up to Thursday night because the forecast is for RAIN on Friday night? Why? What for? Is it because the school administrators are worried about losing money? Here is SE TN there is a greater chance of rain on Thursday evening then on Friday asper the National Weather Service. The updated forecast calls for 100% chance of rain on Thursday night compared to 40% on Friday. I cant stand Thursday night high school football. It messes up the rest of the week! Thursday night is college / NFL football....then Friday night is high school....Saturday is college....Sunday is the NFL then Monday night is JV and freshman plus NFL. FRIDAY is the day the Lord set aside for high school football. This is also the 11th commandment that Moses brought fourth for all to live by.
  2. Obviously Maryville, Ooltewah and Bradley have secured spots in the upcoming playoffs but the 4th place team is still up in the air. If Bradley beats William Blount, and Cleveland losses to Ooltewah and McMinn and McMinn beats Cleveland then McMinn gets the 4th place position. Each team would be 2-4 inside the region. The first tie breaker is head to head. Well Cleveland beat WB....WB beat McMinn then McMinn beats Cleveland. So then you go to overall record. Of course all of this is up in the air but much is still to be decided over the next two weeks. I thought McMinn was out of the playoffs after the loss at William Blount but maybe not. Am I wrong? McMinn 5-5 Cleveland 3-6 WB 4-6
  3. Possibly a few players wont be making the trip to Athens.
  4. I'm hearing some interesting news coming out of Ooltewah?
  5. Tonights game at Bradley after all the rain from this week will be interesting. Their field drains poorly and typically turns into mud. Good footing will be hard to come by as the game progresses and could play a pivotal role in the outcome of the game. I like McMinn in this one. McMinn 28 Bradley 20 GO TRIBE!
  6. Hard to believe I haven't see a thread about this game. So here it goes. This is arguably the oldest rivalry game in the state of TN. the two teams have played 94 times with Bradley leading the series 52-39-3. This year should be an interesting game with both teams being similar to one another on both sides of the ball. They both operate out of the shotgun in the "spread" offense. On defense McMinn is primarily a 4-3 and Bradley is a 3-4. McMinn last won at Bradley in 2013 on an extremely muddy field as nasty weather suspended the game from Friday night to Saturday evening. Coach Cagle is 7-5 against the Bears and Coach Floyd is 6-6 against the Cherokees. This is the type of game where you throw our the record book and sometimes the rule book. Its Black & Gold against Black & Gold.... GO TRIBE!
  7. Wrong! The same association calls both teams home games. So if your getting screwed in Athens your getting screwed in Evansville.
  8. No doubt Maryville has a good team and an impressive legacy over the last 20+ years. The one thing I was surprised about was the lack of following for such a tradition rich program. The Maryville stands weren't half full. I realize it was a Thursday night game and the potential for rain was in the forecast but come on Rebels have you gotten so good that you don't travel to watch your boys play?
  9. What is funny about Rhea County fans complaining about the officiating is that the same association calls both teams home games.
  10. McMinn is looking to improve each week and put themselves into a position to qualify for the post season which would be an accomplishment with their young team. The roster shows 54 underclassmen some of which have never played before. Not to mention a large percentage of these underclassmen are starting. They do have the potential to be a competitive team down the road once they get some game type experience under their belts. Its a talk task to expect these young kids to compete with a Maryville team that has established a legacy of winning championships. Maryville has seasoned players that are well coached and they have a feeder program that produces good players year after year. Maryville is the standard that all teams across this state measure themselves to. This Thursday night will be McMinns time to see where this version of the Cherokees football program is against the GOLIATH of high school football in Tennessee.
  11. McMinn has some good skilled players at wide receiver and in the backfield. The O line is young and lacks experience. Overall they have improved each time I have seen them in the preseason. They played a good Tyner team and showed they can stand toe to toe with an impressive Knox Catholic team. I say they will have some struggles during the season because of the inexperience but don't take them for granted as they have that quick strike capability when clicking on all cylinders. GO TRIBE!
  12. Rhea County is the best team I have seen play this year. They dominated both lines of scrimmages all night. They ran the Wing T to perfection. McMinn seemed to stay behind the chains which allowed Rhea to pin their ears back and come after the QB on 3rd downs. Regardless McMinn did improve in the 2nd half and played Rhea to a tie.
  13. Here is a look inside the numbers. Rhea County averages 36.4 ppg on offense McMinn County averages 20.5 ppg on defense McMinn County averages 29.3 ppg on offense Rhea County averages 20.4 ppg on defense The overall win / loss record for McMinn Counties opponents is 4.8 / 4.2 The overall win / loss record for Rhea Counties opponents is 4.1 / 4.7 This tells us that McMinn has played a slightly tougher schedule, Rhea County tends to average more ppg then McMinn on offense but both give up about the same amount of points on defense. With this game being in Evensville I would say that Rhea County is a solid 7.5 point favorite. But when you put 16-17 year old kids on the field anything can happen and it usually does. I like McMinn to upset Rhea County 35-31 in this huge Region game.
