  1. With the KING back at the helm of Bearden, they can't be anything but good.
  2. What is wrong with Peanut or are you not at liberty to say?
  3. What has all this garbage got to do with Lynn Burkey resigning @ SCHS? Back on topic, please.
  4. It looks as if Lenoir City girls hire as gone the way of the Oak Ridge boys hire. They went from hiring someone with character to hiring a character. Just one person's opinion like everthing else on here.
  5. GovMan, Does he have a thing for Coke machines? Is Cleveland HS short a Coke machine?
  6. Sure hope that the OR administration is not disappointed. Maybe he has matured since his days at Cleveland.
  7. The only money that OR is throwing at Mark Blevins is monopoly money.
  8. Here is an interesting name for the OR job. Steve Shipley!!!!!! Something to think about for all you soothsayers.
  9. In all seriousness, I would have to say that the best coach of the last decade, without question, would have to be Jim "I am in charge" Davis.
  10. All of you crying babies, just shut up and let the girls play the games. Some people are not happy unless they have something to complain about or they make up something to complain about. Here's to the rest of us enjoying the games and let the complainers stay at home.
  11. The real question is, Which A-E player will be arrested for assaulting their teammate after the game? The tradition continues.
  12. I think that it is a combination of things that has caused the decline of girls basketball in the area. Tallent and coaching certainly have something to do with it. I have watched many players that have an over abundance of tallent and zero in the area of fundamentals. The tallent carried them the through the younger years and they were never taught the fundamentals. When they get to high school and maybe play against someone that has less tallent and better fundamentals then they become frustrated and the parents cannot understand why they are not the dominant player or why they are not winning. Of course, to the uninformed parent, it is always the coaches fault. Yes, many good coaches leave because of parents and unruly kids. Why would you choose to put up with all that crap when you don't have to. There are not many youth programs where a young girl can be taught the fundamentals of the game mainly because most of the teams are "coached" by a parent that has no clue about teaching fundamentals and good sportmanship. Yes, sportsmanship is part of the game. A perfect example is the way some of the athletes act out when they lose or are disqualified for some reason. Also, some of these pro athletes have the sense of entitlement and all of that filters down to the young kids at a very early age. The chest pumping, the jersey flipping, etc. I could go on but I will stop. Just one persons opinion and I am sure there are many out there that will not agree and that is okay by me. We as a society have been headed in this direction for years and it is not going to stop until we change our philosophy about raising our kids. I don't see it happening anytime soon. The parents of today are the kids of yesterday where all this started and as far as they are concerned nothing is wrong.
  13. I was not referring to girls bball in District 5, but the knoxpatch area. Those teams mentioned by minksfan can play.
  14. Wrong again oh wonderous one. Not an official talking. I have been watching girls basketball in TN for 25 years and the skill level of play has continued to go down over that period of time. Just because someone gives their all does not mean they can play. I am not talking about effort. Skill level is what I am talking about. The fundamentals are lacking if they even exist. All some teams want to do is come across the time line and shoot the three. No team play or defense in some of these games. Actually defense is probably not needed as most teams can't handle the ball anyway. Most officials will tell you that it is much easier to work a girls games than a boys games. Kind of like the rec or church leagues. Just get the walking calls and flagrant fouls and there are plenty of those.
  15. It is just you. Also, it might have something to do with the Knox area girls teams are some of the worst ever as a whole. I am sure there are a few teams that can play but those are few and far between. Girls basketball is awful.
  16. Stanton Stevens is the new Head Football Coach at LaVergne according to WVLT in Knoxville and it is also on their website. Read it and weep.
  17. Warm and sunny, high of 68. No rain. Its an AB day. Have fun with the snow. All of you are welcome to it.
  18. scots50, Forget about getting decent coverage from the Knox rag. It is a terrible paper when it comes to hs sports coverage, unless it is Farragut or Bearden.
  19. I would venture to say that most people that pay to go to a HS football game are there to see the game and not the band. I don't really know, but I would imagine when a band concert is held, there is not an admission charge. If there happens to be an admission charge for a state band championship, I don't think there would be several thousand people there to watch or listen as the case may be. If the band were left at home, how would that affect the attendance at high school football games. Not enough to matter.
  20. Good game to watch on TV, even with the poor announcers and officials. Congrats to Union City on a big win. Did anyone else notice on the winning kick and the ensuing kick-off that the kicker, (sorry that I don't know his name) kicked with his mouth piece in his face mask. I am assuming that he had an extra one in his mouth as I am sure that the officials could not have missed that call. Anyway, probably not of much consequence as I am sure he would have made the kick from 5 yards farther away. I could be mistaken as I am sure that if I am someone will point it out.
  21. When I say bottom of the district or whatever it is, I am talking about tournament time. That is what bball is all about. Both Central and Halls will probably be either 3 or 4 in the final district standing if that good. If they make it to the region tourney, one and done, if past results are any indication of future performance. Good luck to both, they are going to need it.
  22. Those two defenses in this game were two of the worse defensive football teams that I have seen all year long. Based on the way each one of those defensive teams played neither one should have been in the final game.
