  1. they have no seniors that contribute so they will all be back.
  2. Santa Fe is another that’s quite small and have IMO the best player in Class A.
  3. Giles County superstar football player Kamauri Turner has scored 17 in both of his first two games. Made 5 3-pointers in each game. Kareem Bryant is one of their best athletes on the football team and he's the top defensive stopper for GCHS. Jakiyah Englett was their standout tight end and he's a hooper as well. Crazy to think about that the son of GCHS and UT Knoxville legend Tyler Smith, Amare, has never played a minute of basketball.
  4. We'll never know! Kind of like we'll never know if GCHS could have beaten East in the semifinals the last three years. At least the games would have been competitive. Congrats to the 'Naders on another gold ball. With a little hard work and some luck maybe they can win another next year
  5. On to basketball we go. Maybe Alcoa can run it back there, too.
  6. Game went about like I figured. Giles had to play an absolute perfect game to have a real chance of winning. And they didn't. The injury to the QB stinks and definitely affected the playcalling. Hope he makes a safe and speedy recovery. GC vs. Dyersburg/East/GP would have been an epic semifinal. Might as well just give Alcoa a bye all the way to the championship game each year. They continue to be the class of 3A. Best of luck to the Tornadoes the rest of the way.
  7. I'm a friend of a friend of a friend of GCHS and I love listening to Neely and Bledsoe call a big game, but I can't pick the Bobcats to win this week. It's just always funny that Alcoa fans know they have an All-Star team, they know they will win the 3A title for the next decade-plus, they know they will continue to produce insanely talented D1 and eventual NFL players. Yet they get on this message board every week and every year and talk smack to other schools like it's a fair fight. Congrats on going back to Chattanooga, 'Nader Nation. And congrats on Gold Ball #76328761378613.
  8. I'm sure it's just an old internet rumor and nothing REMOTELY close to true, but doesn't Alcoa have an enrollment cap? Yanno, to kind of, uh, remain 3A?
  9. Eh. Bobcats should be used to it. Giles region games are only about 30 minute quicker drives.
  10. This one is going to be fun. Sounds like Meigs kind of hangs its hat on playing hard and physical. That usually ain't enough to cut it versus the Bobcats — especially in the playoffs. (All-Star teams like Alcoa and Pearl-Cohn notwithstanding). I hate I can't make this one, but I always enjoy listening to Neely and Bledsoe call a big game. Those guys are some of the best local broadcaster I've ever heard. We are fortunate to have them in our area.
  11. I don't follow them as closely as I used to, but in year's past they bring a good crew — even to Loudon and Alcoa. How is seating at Meigs?
  12. Giles would probably prefer a 50/50 split every game, but some nights one is just working better than the other. Should be a slobberknocker.
  13. No the last play was the one after McMinn coach called a timeout instead of letting the game be over in a 70-29 game. And the McMinn senior running back appeared to get hurt.
  14. Same one they always do. Ultra balanced running and passing with lots of formations. Can line up 5 wide one play. Could be in a Maryland I the very next. Could have a 10-play drive with 10 straight runs. Or could throw every down. Kinda just depends on what matchup the defense is presenting.
  15. Not sure who wins, but this will be the last competitive game played in 3A football the rest of the season, I'm afraid. Alcoa rolls the winner of this one and then rolls East Nashville again in the title game.
  16. I tip my cap to the MCHS coaching staff, tho, they coached to win the game. Late in the second quarter, they were down 37-22 and called a timeout to force GCHS hand. GCHS then kicked a field goal to make it 40-22. But by calling the timeout, MCHS set itself up for backfire if they did not score on their next drive. Which they didn't. GCHS got a quick stop and then MCHS had a horrible punt snap that was eventually blocked for a TD. But so many coaches play scared and would have let GCHS dictate the end of the half. If MCHS scores, it's 37-29 entering the second half with MCHS getting the ball. But this particular gamble backfired as their special teams was horrific. Giles County would have had 2-plus minutes to drive either way, but instead they blocked the kick.
  17. McMinn kept their starters in the game down 70-29 — which is fair — it was their last game in a Charger uniform. Giles County began rotating several backups in the game, but a big hit by a GCHS starter drew a personal foul. That kid was promptly taken out of the game to avoid a messy situation and cheap suspension in meaningless minutes. The next play, MC passed to the sideline and a GC DB made a tackle. Who knows what was said, but he was shoved to the ground by several MC sideline players. Offsetting penalties and that player, too, was taken out of the game to avoid a second penalty. At this point, with the clock running, the game should be over. But with tempers now flaring, McMinn takes a timeout with eight seconds left for some reason. Their coach rallies the entire team onto the field for a mass huddle. And decides to run one last play. The GCHS radio announcer @wneely said it best: "just remember folks, whatever happens next... the McMinn coach could have let this clock run out." They run a draw and the standout rusher for McMinn is largely allowed to run downfield as GCHS did not want to breathe on him and risk a personal foul and ejection. But a GCHS defender made a legal tackle on the sideline and it appeared as if the MCHS RB was injured on a final, meaningless play of his senior year. I hope he's ok. Both the tackler and another GC defender ran over to console and check on the young man, but with the game now over, MCHS promptly walked off the field. The coaches did shake hands, but it was a very weird end to an otherwise fun game. MCHS has a really impressive offense, but they had no answers for the Giles offense.
  18. 4th quarter about to start in MP. Loretto leads 41-39
