  1. Tank .... Great cover. ... Send me the whole thing, and I'll send my tab from Mayfield, KY.
  2. well, there was the time when Obion Central fans put cow chips under the visiting bleachers for the Union City game. .... Or, was that UC fans putting the dung under OC's bleachers? .... anyway, that was an interesting night. of course, the favorite chear at UC during OC week was (and, still is) ..... SHOOOOO WEEEEEE! WHAT'S THAT SMELL? C-E-N-T-R-A-L ! ! ! ! OC and UC used to have (and might still do, I don't know) a "Tacky Day" the day of the game or the day before. Lots of girls dating football players at the other school would wear his jersey to school that day. funny how the ol' clock at Milan's Johnnie Hale Stadium used to flicker off at just the right time during the John Tucker era.
  3. How many people know that Union City and Humboldt have played more than 70 times? That used to be a good one. Union City vs. Obion County Central has finally become a rivalry after being dominated by UC for three decades. OCC has won the last four in a row. Milan-Humboldt is a good one, obviously.
  4. Dad-gum, TinyMindWes .... who urinated in your coco-puffs??? .... I really think you need some mental help as you seem to lack the ability to "get over it" .... There's a whole big wide world out there. You might try living in it. .... I say this because I care. .... Your posts cross the line of simple trash talk. You are seriously unstable and in need of help.
  5. For those of you who might not think UC has played some tough competition (I'm ending the debate before it gets started), let's just look at Union City's LOSSES this season .... I choose losses b/c we live in a negative society. Haywood ... has advanced to AA state tournament Liberty ... has advanced to AA state tournament Trigg County, Ky ... has advanced to Second Region Tournament semifinals (In Ky., there are no classes and the only second-chance game in the postseason is the district tournament championships, where both teams advance to the region. Then, teams have to win seven in a row to be state champ) Forrest City, Ark. .... Advanced to state AAAAA Sweet 16 state tournament Lake County ... UC eliminated the Falcons in the regional semifinals Humboldt .... has advanced to the A state tournament.
  6. A great win by Union City and another monkey off the back of young Sisco. ... Now, the Tornadoes need to relax and dance with what brung'em. According to the info I have -- and Cawley probably has better numbers and talked about on the broadcast (I was unable to go or listen) -- this was the first time Union City has won a substate/sectional game as a true road team. There have been a couple of neutral site wins, but never one as the true visitor. UC's substate/sectional history: 1970: UC 60, Columbia 46 at Jackson 1971: Clarksville 63, UC 62 at Clarksville 1972: UC 71, Battle Ground Academy 51 at UT Martin 1978: Giles County 75, UC 61 at Centerville 1981: UC 57, Giles County 47 at Union City 1984: Memphis Kirby 80, UC 68 at Union City 1988: Memphis Carver 88, UC 85 (OT) at Union City 1989: Memphis Treadwell 101, UC 84 at Memphis 1990: UC 62, Memphis East 61 at Union City .... AA STATE CHAMPS 1991: Memphis Kingsbury 70, UC 56 a Memphis 1992: UC 60, Memphis Frayser 54 at Union City .... AA STATE CHAMPS 1993: UC 97, Harding Academy 92 (2OT) at Union City 1995: UC 73, Harding Academy 58 at Union City 1997: UC 66, Memphis Booker T. Washington 51 at Union City .... AA STATE CHAMPS 2006: UC 47, Middleton 46 at Middleton A little aside .... The last time a UC head coach named Sisco took his Tornadoes to state for the first time, via a last-second, game-winning shot by the team's star player, UC won the state championship. .... Stanley Caldwell's tip-in at the buzzer beat Memphis East in 1990, and the Golden Gang went on to claim the first of three AA state championships in the Marty Sisco era .... LIKE FATHER, LIKE SON ? ? ?
  7. I hope Ashley submits it to On The Ball magazine.
  8. Just got back from the Ky. state title games. Watched six teams in three games on Sat. (did not attend 4A game Fri. nite). .... Alcoa would have beaten every team I saw on Sat. Just thought you'd like to know. Then again, it is ONLY Kentucky football.
  9. To everyone on here saying that JCS came out sluggish and couldn't get it going early .... Do you think maybe .... just maybe .... that might have had a little to do with Union City laying the wood to them early??? Hmmmmmm???? Sluggish??? In Week 13???? Come on now. ..... As a very successful coach once said to me: Excuses are for losers. Maybe the dog ate your playbook. Maybe she said she was on the pill. Maybe you had some food poisoning from the pre-game meal. Maybe you're alergic to bus rides. Maybe the grass on the field was too low/too high/too dead. Maybe you lost it in the lights. Maybe it was too cold/not cold enough. Or maybe .... just maybe .... it was something else entirely. It is always a sad day indeed when arrogance meets reality.
  10. I wish we could get some type of TV contract with one of the Fox Sports stations to televise our state championships regionwide and nationwide. I can watch games out of Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, Michigan, California, Florida and Georgia (as well as the Kentucky boys' basketball state title game) -- just to name a few states -- b/c their finals are televised on one of the four Fox College Sports regional networks. I think something like that would be great for high school sports in Tennessee.
  11. Very interesting observations on the game. .... The more I look at this game, the more I believe it will come down to the intangibles of coaching, mistakes, discipline, execution, desire, etc. Should be a great one at War Memorial. By the way, all UC fans should make it to the pep rally tonight!
  12. OK, I know that on the UC-Fayette board I promised I would not post on this board (in order not to jinx good ol' UC), but I want to make a point about the education at Union City High School. Just b/c a few people who claim to be Union City supporters do not understand the "WERTY" system of typing is no reason to indict the thousands of graduates of UCHS, a school founded in the latter half of the 19th Century. .... The Union City School System is one of the top educational systems in the state. Alumni have, in recent years, been among the top graduates at Vanderbilt and UT Memphis Medical. We have had people rise to high ranks in the United States Military (and, the old cliche about "Military Intelligence" being an oxymoron does not apply here). The Union City School System provides a high quality education that is respected state-wide. Yes, there are "bad seeds" at Union City, but I'm sure that if you look hard enough, you will discover that is true for EVERY school. Just a point of fact, not a criticism. Now that I have addressed the masses from my soapbox, here's an idea: How about we keep this discussion to, oh I don't now, maybe .... FOOTBALL. Have a nice day.
  13. While we're at it, can people please post the Hall of Fame Games from across the state? There are some big ones scheduled for West Tennessee, but I'm not certain of dates or places. I do know that Union City will play a couple of HOF games at Bolivar on Tuesday and Wednesday. .... What are some others from across the state. Please post.
  14. What we have here, ladies and gentlemen, is a classic example of what people in the business refer to as a "non-denial denial." yellowdog questions my ethics and morals but not my accuracy. All I did was point out something I heard in a conversation once several years ago. It's the only thing I remember about the conversation, and the only reason I remembered that is b/c it was such a strong comment. If it is not true (perhaps the word "profit" was the wrong choice of words), then show me where I am wrong. Don't simply follow the old politicians' ploy of "attack the messenger." And, let me state again, that I am NOT against making money. (That part of my post was conveniently omitted from yellowdog's quote of me -- another old tried-and-true trick of the trade.) More power to the TSSAA. I'd rather our high school kids be part of a well-oiled machine than a paycheck-to-paycheck mom-and-pop store. Finally, I want everyone to pay attention to the tone and language of yellowdog in his attack on me. He sounds like someone closely associated with the TSSAA and/or Mr. Carter.
  15. Hey, I'm just glad UC managed to overcome the hex I put on them by hyping them up. There will be no posts from me on the UC-JCS thread. ... and, the world just became a kinder, friendlier place ....
  16. Does anyone know if the TSSAA has a contract to televise the state championships (football and basketball) live across the state? I know last year's football games were on television in some places, but I was only able to watch b/c I happened to be at a relative's house near Nashville on the day of a replay. Let me know.
  17. I just checked out the site and passed a note along to the webmaster complimenting him on a great site. Very informative, and easy to navigate. Should bring even more interest to the highly successful Mustang program.
  18. Getting away from football playoff gates but staying on the topics of TSSAA and money .... *** I understand the TSSAA is one the most profitable high school athletic organizations in the country (ranked in the top five of all states); *** A basketball coach told me that it is more profitable for his school if his basketball team makes the sub-state and then loses rather than winning and paying expenses at state. Just a couple of things I heard. Oh, I have no probems with profits. I'm a capitalist through and through.
  19. Union City hosted the Civitan Bowl for many years through the 1970s and 1980s. .... Mainly a bowl game for Union City High School, but Obion County Central and South Fulton played in it as well in addition to opponents from Memphis area, rural southwest Tennessee and the Nashville area. Always was a good game and nice consolation prize for not making the playoffs back in the day when only the district champion and then later the district champion and runner-up made the playoffs. Also, Jackson used to host the Casey Jones Bowl And, I know Milan hosted a bowl game b/c South Fulton went down there and beat the Bulldogs.
  20. Shame about the boom-booms. Think I'll check out the constitutionality of limiting free expression.
  21. Well, I hope every cheering section is loud .... Speaking of loud, I can make y'all louder with BOOM BOOM STICKS!!! Through the end of the year, I'm selling them for $0.91 per pair, beginning with a minimum order of 250 pair. We have them in Red, Blue, White and Yellow. Imprint colors include: Black, Dark Blue, Brown, Burgundy, Dark Green, Emerald Green, Light Blue, Maroon, Metallic Gold, Metallic Silver, Navy Blue, Orange, Purple, Red, Royal Blue, Teal, White, and Yellow/Yellow Gold. Let me know. I'll make ya LOUD!
  22. Ok, this really has nothing do with the game either way .... but I came to a realization last night while watching the Colts whip the Patriots. Never ... and, I mean NEVER ... has any team I've hyped going into a game actually won. Everytime I get an alligator mouth about my favorite teams, those teams play with Jaybird butts and get beat. So, I've been on here hyping the Golden Tornadoes (which, by the way, is not disrespecting FA or taking FA lightly) on here, and now I'm worried about my team not backing up my talk. Oh, I'm serious. I swim in a river of paranoia that runs wide, deep and long.
  23. So, FAV, by reading your post, I came to these conclusions .... Three times this year, you: ** weren't pumped; ** did not have enough stamina; ** and, were willing to quit. Don't let the upperclassmen on your team see your post, or you'll be MEAT in practice this week.
  24. I think that's mostly preseason hype (which really shouldn't matter anymore, now that we're headed to Week 12, or Round 2) b/c UC and McKenzie were coming down and LC was supposed to be so good (according to all the LC fans here). Then, take into consideration that Gleason started (I think) 4-0 and was ranked in the state. But, neither LC or Gleason was much competition for UC, and UC hung hald-a-hundred-plus-2 on McK and won by three TDs despite Drew's two state records. I believe, by the time the season was over, the league turned out to be weak and a little top-heavy. By the way, your prediction? I think you're half right.
  25. Ya know, I'm one of these outside observers (outside of Northwest Tennessee, that is) who pops in whenever I see something interesting. I was gonna get on here and give some smart-aleck reply, like Huntland should have won one more game and then wouldn't be worrying about a bowl game. ... But ... the truth is that this a shame. A 7-3 team not in the playoffs and a couple of 2-8 teams making it. Sure, one of those 2-8 teams won (Sheffield beating No. 1-ranked Dyersburg in the biggest upset of Round 1), but normally those teams don't have a prayer. I wish there was some provision in the TSSAA playoff rules that said all under-.500 teams were subject to being bumped out of the playoffs if a team with an over-.500 record did not finish in the top four of its region. I don't think you can honestly or objectively or even intelligently say that a 2-8 team worked just as hard as a 7-3 team to make the playoffs. Most 2-8 teams are 2-8 for a reason: They're not any dang good. If nothing else, set up a preliminary playoff game or games pitting any above-.500 team against the under-.500 teams with the winner earning the right to make the field of 32. Maybe play that game on a Tuesday before Round 1. If there are no above-.500 teams left out of the playoffs, then there would be no preliminary round that year. Oh, worried about Friday-Tuesday-Friday schedule? I think teenagers are resilient. Besides, it should be somewhat difficult to make the round of 32. Winning twice in 10 games sure ain't proving anything. Just my two cents worth .... which is about all it's worth.
