  1. Getting back to West Tenn., I think Union City made a huge step up when it went to Vegas Gold over athletic gold to go with its Purple. The Golden Tornadoes now have a gold helmet with purple facemask, purple jerseys with a thick gold stripe down each side and white numbers trimmed in gold, and Vegas Gold pants. The road unis have the purple pants, white jerseys with the thick purple stripe and purple numbers trimmed in gold (I think). ... Anyway, they look great. Obion Central has done some good things with its uniform in recent years, but I'm not sure yet what this year's will look like.
  2. Man, one less pizza?!?! Jeez, that'll be tough. Anybody who knows me knows I don't pass up too many pizzas Oh wait. .... I'm already a Plus member. I'll make ya a deal: I'll buy something out of the coachT store if I'm allowed to say I sell items such as the coachT products in my promotional business. ... By the way, anyone needing some caps, T-shirts, sweatshirts, pullovers, hooded sweats, ink pens, travel mugs, pom-pons, car flags, hand fans, mini-footballs and basketballs, stadium cushions, etc. ?!?!?!?? Let me know. ok, ok, ok. ... bad place for a personal plug. Anyway, I'm proud to be a Plus member and urge everyone else to become one, too. It's the best 12 bucks you'll spend, legally!!
  3. Well, I'm not gonna get into who runs a tighter ship or whether or not someone is the anti-Christ (those folks in Johnson City who named the football stadium after him certainly don't think that way). ... I just want to ask a question. When did it become a college coach's responsibility to babysit these adults?!?!? Seems to me, if they had gotten any discipline at all when they were growing up, many (not all, but many) of these incidents would have never taken place. Where are their families, especially their fathers??? Instead of looking to blame the college coach and the college football program, maybe we should be looking at the players' home life long before they got to college.
  4. Easy question ... Jack Buck Vin Scully ... easy answers Why bother with TV when those guys were on the air.
  5. I was going to mention that myself. ... I traveled all the way from the NW part of the state just to experience the Rebel Nation in person. It was worth the drive. .... Over here, Huntingdon and Milan have probably the best game night experience night-in and night-out. Huntingdon-McKenzie is huge, as is Milan-Humboldt. Both are electric. ... Union City-Obion Central can be a big night, but last year UC finished 2-8 and OC was 3-7, and they met at mid-season. So, not so much last year. Union City used to play in a lot of big games: OC, Westview, Milan, Humboldt. Covington-Ripley is a fun night. Peabody also has a good atmosphere, playing downtown. Peabody, Milan, Humboldt, Covington, Huntingdon all have old, concrete stadiums that are rich in history and tradition. Just being there is great.
  6. Well, I'm not going to get into the merits of Harpeth's schedule when Tant was a player. Nor will I say that a Vanderbilt graduate made a stupid decision. ... Let's all just consider this: If you're going to get knocked around playing football -- and ALL football players get knocked around -- you're much better off getting paid for it than doing volunteer work (sorry about the "v" word, Vandy fans) for a team that averages about two wins a year. .... He'll be getting a nice paycheck next season while has former teammates will be sputtering to another losing record. And, to Gerry Bertier, props on the Skyhawk logo.
  7. It appears as if its a done deal. ... Bowling's old coach is coming out of retirement to be the DC
  8. Let's remember that when we do show respect to the flag during the National Anthem, we do it properly. .... Only the right hand touches the heart, not the cap being held by the right hand. Hold your cap in your left hand or put it down on the bleachers/benches. .... Just a little point I wanted to make. ... Not that holding your cap over your heart is disrespectful, but it is technically incorrect, and not too many people are even aware of it.
  9. That's an interesting website, and something I'll look into more later. .... But, is this going to cut into my business of selling T-shirts, sweatshirts, polo shirts, caps, car flags, yard signs, windshield stickers and a large variety of other items to booster clubs and other organizations? Or, is it something that can help my business make more money? ... Again, I'll look into it more later. ... Thanks for the info.
  10. Cardinals ... 2-3 Season's over Wait'll next year Well, at least we can still make fun of Cubs fans, as in .... DID YOU KNOW .... the Soviet Union was formed and broken up since the last time the Cubs won the World Series .....
  11. Well, surely 161-1 will give us the Wild Card The Cards' players have had a day off to think about the shame and disgrace they have brought on themselves, their families, their fans and the game of baseball in general. Look for a good game in the home opener Friday.
  12. Well, we Cards fans will have to settle for 161-1. ... Not quite the season we were expecting, but it'll do.
  13. As of late PM Tuesday, April 5, the Cardinals were 1-0. .... Soooo, until they lose, I'm saying 162-0 with the division title locked up by the All Star Break. Seriously, I just don't see anyone dethroning the Cards this year.
  14. Well, now my stomach's growlin' and my limb's throbbin' Pizza. Every Night. For me, that's like saying ... Marla Collins. Ball Girl!
  15. Or, you could have each separate classfication state tournament in the same week at different sites: Nashville (Vandy and Gaylord) and The Boro.
  16. I have an alternative state tournament format, and I'm just wondering if it would have any way of working. Remember, I'm jus throwing something out there. Running it up the flagpole to see if anyone will salute. Three separate public school state tournament weeks Class A: First Week of March Class AA: Second Week of March Class AAA: Third Week of March Both girls' and boys' tournaments played in the week of their designated classificatons. Eight girls' teams and eight boys' teams, which translates into 14 games each week (Right now, there are two tournaments and a total of 21 games in each tournament). The sessions could have just two games rather than three games per session as it is now. You play two girls games in the day (noon and 2 p.m.) and two boys in the evening (5 and 7 p.m.) on Wednesday and Thursday to take care of the quarterfinals; girls' semifinals on Friday afternoon and boys' semifinals on Friday evening; and then finals on Saturday at, say, 2 p.m. and 5 p.m. There are logistical nightmares for the regular season and postseason, obviously, which likely makes this idea impossible. But, what it does do is eliminate some of the havoc and the chaos in regards to fans' seating on championship night. .... And, hey, what if a school's two teams made the finals, like Peabody's did this year. How cool would it be for those fans to be chearing BOTH their teams in the state championships on the same night?
  17. I wonder if the post was deleted b/c of what you said about the seating situation or what I said about the arena and event staff. I stand by every word I said. If you didn't get a chance to read it, I don't feel like typing it all in again. Simply put: I'm no fan of The Big Ugly Square Building With Way Too Many Windows. Nor am I a fan of the Blue Shirts (event staffers).
  18. The Three R's -- Robin, Robin and Russell -- do a fine job for West Tennessee. And, I'm not just saying that b/c they're all friends of mine (even though I should probably be mad at Russell b/c I seemed to have gained all the weight he has lost). And, of course, the rest of the WCMT family deserves a kudo or two, as well as long-time voices of the Golden Tornadoes: Jim C. and Mike R.
  19. I agree with coacht's explanation, and want to add that I think splitting up by classes might be more trouble than it's worth. Since so many (virtually all) of our schools cross into other classifications for non-league games, it could cause a lot of confusion. .... The great thing about the current set-up is that you might come across a thread topic that catches your eye and find yourself reading some very interesting posts about schools/players you had never heard of before.
  20. 2005 DRESDEN LIONS Schedule A. 19 ..... EAST ROBERTSON A. 26 ..... OBION COUNTY CENTRAL S. 2 ...... HUMBOLDT * S. 9 ...... at McKenzie S. 16 ..... at Huntingdon * S. 23 ..... OPEN S. 30 ..... at Westview * O. 7 ...... PEABODY * O. 14 ..... at Milan * O. 21 ..... GIBSON COUNTY * O. 28 ..... at USJ * (* = region games)
  21. Union City is getting ready to rise again; Lake County is returning to prominence; the Bruceton program will be back; McKenzie has the tools to be a force in Class A with or without a bevy of receivers; and I know South Fulton wants to put on a good show in its new stadium after a subpar year. Class A won't be a cakewalk for anyone. In fact, there should be some exciting football west of the Tenn. River
  22. I wouldn't fret too much if I were you. I think Huntingdon will be just fine. thumb
  23. Seems as if my good friend redbird (who DOES NOT host a Trenton radio show) is giving a big hint that KIM DECKER will be the next Rebel coach. thumb By the way, finestcopnyc, I'm not who you think I am, either. Neither is sportsradio, neither is ... oh, I could go on and on, but you're dong a good enough job of embarrassing yourself without my help. ... Seems as if you have axes to grind. Either that, or you just learned how to type and want to show off for us.
  24. When you have the offensive players and defensive players separated, not even allowed to dress in the same locker room or talk to each other on the sideline, that's a fiasco. Yes, it's true that Larry did not have a winning record overall, but he did have one over-.500 season and two 5-5 years with three state playoff appearances. He spearheaded the construction of new home bleachers (replacing the wooden ones built by the OCCHS shop class back in 1960), and he oversaw the fieldhouse project, giving OC one of the finest high school football facilities in Tennessee. Before Larry, no one wanted to coach football at OC. After he left (was forced out???) coaches lined up for the job. Fiasco?? No. I call that laying the foundation. Now, back to hoops, I think Kim would be an interesting choice. I can't believe Spencer would want to come back after all the things that were said to have happened while he was there (rumors are still discussed on occasion). So, it willbe interesting to see how that plays out.
  25. Oh yeah. Let's get Butch. ... What was it Rachel said to Ross?? Once a cheater, always a cheater.
