  1. I can tell you that the field in UC is in very good shape. The grounds crew takes extremely good care of it. Ask any coach or player that walked on it today. There may have been a couple of wet spots, but all in all, it is in great shape!
  2. Complete tournament coverage is available at www.ucgreyhounds.com. There's a District 13AA link on the page.
  3. Day 1 Finals Huntingdon 13 Dresden 2 Humboldt 10 Murray 5 Union City 6 Gibson County 0 Day 2 Finals Murray 6 Gibson County 0 Union City 5 Humboldt 3 Kingston 6 Obion Central 5
  4. I've seen the difference between the teams from the eastern and the western section of the state in the last two years...there is no comparison. West is best! Especially this season! I intend no disrespect towards those teams in the eastern region of our great state...but, the games and teams are much faster and better over in this area. Humboldt will battle East Robertson in the semi-finals to see who plays Union City in the finals.
  5. If, ifs and buts were candy and nuts.....well, you know the rest. Peabody has 2 Gold Balls and 1 Silver. I do agree with you devil, the Clarkrange vs JC game is for the 1A Title...just like last year's Peabody vs Gleason Region semi-final game. Sometimes the two best teams in a classification meet before the tournament at the 'Boro.
  6. If the Vikes play the way they did last night through the rest of the postseason, other teams will be hardpressed to beat them. Lake County looked very good last night...well rounded. Halls also played well. UC is the only team that didn't show last night. All are going to the Region though and anything can happen there.
  7. The 2006 St. Jude Classic field is set! The games will be played at Elam Stadium @ LH Ladd Field and Thompson Field in Union City. Pool A - Humboldt, Murray, Union City & Gibson County. Pool B - Kingston, Dresden, Huntingdon & Obion Central. March 29th Elam Stadium 4:00 Dresden vs. Huntingdon 6:30 Gibson County vs Union City Thompson Field 5:30 Humboldt vs. Murray March 30th Elam Stadium 4:00 Gibson County vs. Murray 6:30 Kingston vs Obion Central Thompson Field 5:30 Humboldt vs. Union City March 31st Elam Stadium 4:00 Kingston vs Huntingdon 6:30 Dresden vs Obion Central April 1st Elam Stadium 12:00 Gibson County vs Humboldt 2:30 Dresden vs Kingston Thompson Field 12:00 Huntingdon vs Obion Central 2:30 Union City vs Murray April 1st Elam Stadium Championship Game 5:30 Pool A winner vs Pool B winner
  8. In the North or West - Union City & Dresden are the favorites...in the South or East - Halls along with Lake County & Humboldt are the teams to beat.
  9. They carry games on the radio now?!? See ya at Thursday NW!
  10. They stand a good chance if they win their games.
  11. Union City lost two "District" games - Humboldt and Lake County...not Gleason. As to the Region - there's no team in 13A that can hang with UC, Humboldt, LC or Halls.
  12. I hear there is a possibility of a new show on one of Luap Elknit network stations - "The Heavy D Power Hour!" I'll listen!
  13. Weddle is 25 points away from breaking Stanley Caldwell's scoring record.
  14. D14A is by far the best boys district in 1A I've ever seen...5 contenders - Humboldt, UC, LC, Peabody & Halls. All have the ability to go deep in the postseason if the breaks go their way. The four that come out of the district tournament will be the semi-finals of the Region 7A tournament. UC is slumping with the recent losses to LC & the 'Boldt...Halls played well against Peabody and LC is surging. The district tournament should be a hard ticket come February in South Fulton.
  15. Fun rankings for debate...but, the basketball in West TN is a bit better than what is being played in the Middle and Eastern parts of the state - especially in 1A. Middleton is #1 - they are the defending champs and until a 1A team knocks them off, they deserve the top spot. Union City is #2 - no team in the this part of the state has played them well other than 2A powers Bolivar, Liberty and Fayette. Plus, they have wins over Poplar Bluff, MO and Memphis East. There are other quality teams in the state like Temple, Lake County, Peabody, Wayne County, Grace, etc... that "might" give either team a run for their money...but, the ball being played by UC & Middleton is execptional. Both teams are deeper and quicker than anyone I've seen this season. They should meet in the state title game in 1A.
  16. A UC berth into the state championship game evidently proves you do not realize what goes on day to day when coaching a successful team...from scouting, preparation, practice and execution. Coaching a team in any sport to a state championship game is a great deal of hard work. Until you've done it, zip it.
  17. Final: Union City 36 Jo Byrns 13 Competitive game in the 1st half...but, UC took control in the 3rd quarter. Congratulations UC and good luck against Trousdale County in the Blue Cross Bowl Friday afternoon!
  18. You'll have to excuse the JCS fans...some have a hard time dealing with defeat. I watched them bemoan the lack of calls in the boys sectional game with Peabody earlier this year. A game which the Eagles lost. I do have to ask - who is the victim of a disaster? I guess I missed that. I was on the sideline and watched each play...each team gets away with penalties during a game. You see or think you see the ones that affect your team's misfortune. As for the bad ball placements - both teams received poor spots during the game. The sad part is that people get online and start making excuses for losing. I don't think JCS started sluggish, UC just started out better and ended up that way as well.
  19. The best comment I heard about the game as I was leaving War Memorial last night was - "Speed kills and you can't see it on film." UC was way too fast for JCS, especially in the DB and RB areas. The Eagles are a very good team with some talented players...but, the Tornadoes just executed their game plan to near perfection last night. Congrats to everyone involved in UC's victory and good luck at Jo Byrns. BTW, for those of you current or former fans that have harshly critiqued the coaching ability of UC's head man...speak not of what you do not know unless you can go behind the scenes, watch the preparations, read the scouting reports he and his staff have put together and then stand on the sidelines to witness the coaching during the games. Just remember, victories and great seasons are not handed to a team, they are earned.
  20. Congrats to Darren Bowling and the Rebels on a great win! Hey VOREBS, where's the Jackson Sun reporter now that there are some good teams in the upper NW corner of their supposed coverage area? Stop by and hollar at me next time your in the park!
  21. Congratulations to the Tornadoes - players and coaches! Keep it up BK. Nate is playing well, huh?!? Not bad for a guy who hasn't played football in a few years. Obviously, you guys on the line a blowing open some pretty good running lanes. I think Westview proved how good they are Friday night by beating Huntingdon - a team that's been to the 2A finals the last two years. So, the answer to the question that followed week one (Is Westview that good or is UC that bad?) has been answered. Westview is an elite team in 2A and UC is one their way to being one of 1A's top teams. Good luck against Milan!
