  1. Congrats to the Dragons for bringing home first, and I'll be checking in on the state duel results, hoping Region 10 can pull off some up-sets.
  2. Yes, Keller, the Simpsons, Marables, and others are great wrestlers, but there are only what? a 110 total schools in Tennessee that have wrestling programs. In Ohio alone there are 3 divisions of close to 200 teams. Tennessee would have more higher caliber wrestlers if there was a bigger interest in the sport. It takes time to do that. There are different areas of the country that excel at wrestling more than others, even different parts of the same state excel more than others. Seeing the level of competition in Ohio, I think I could have competed, but probably have not been a two time regional champ or been one win away from placing if I wrestled in Ohio. The only way I know of improving our state's level of competition is to have more schools start programs. But it doesnt help when dominant schools like Ridgeway cancel their programs. I respect all the hard work our wrestlers do, but if they want to compete on a national level, they have to work harder and make the sport their life.
  3. I havent been to any of the tourny's so far this season, but from the results from the last couple of years, it seems that the power has shifted to the teams in to the north in the region, for those not geographically inclined, Bartlett and Cordova. Grant it, there are still great individuals from the Ranch, C'ville, and G'town, but a handful of individuals cant win a regional team title. On another, and potentially scary note, how old is lil Matthew Marable?
  4. What school is DD wrestling for? Is Nick starting for Mizzou?
  5. I consider myself an old fart because I may know of one of the guys starting for the school I graduated from. Is the G-town preseason still the first weekend of november?
  6. For once I do agree with Region X, I thought that was last year's region locations. I know a lot of the old farts (me included) from the 'Ville want the team tourny back in the dragons den. Does any one have any interesting match ups during the x-mas break, such as houston's dual with the MN team a couple years back?
  7. For any of the Region X coaches out there, can you give me a run down on returning state qualifiers? I haven't seen any articles from the Appeal and looking at their track record at covering wrestling, they probably wont come out with a pre-season review. Also, have the locations for team and individual regionals been decided yet? I'd like to make it out there at least once before I graduate from a center of hight education. Thanks from the great white north.
  8. Is called constructive criticism. I agree that there needs to be more consistant officiating in the state tournament. I was not there this year, but I know that refs from out west take longer to call stalling than other refs from around the state. I know stalling is a judgment call, but is there a way they can be more consistant?
  9. Wow, just looked at the results from states and Cordova is seventh at the end of day one. Good job wolf-pack. The ponies are riding high at tenth and my dragons are tied at fifteenth. Good job to all the Region X teams and work hard the next two days to bring home the hardware. Memphis wrestling forever, Bradley never!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  10. I might be missing something, but what about Kent Johnson from Collierville at 130?
  11. BOTW, I know you love to analyze the sport of wrestling and you helped us out many times when I was wrestling. I just don't think Wright would be worried about getting OW this weekend. I don't think he should have gotten OW because he didnt do anything outstanding. He did what he was expected to do, win the region. I would give it to a guy who was a lower seed like Jose mentioned, because he was not expected to do what he did. sorry if I came off harsh.
  12. Everybody knows Brandon is an outstanding wrestler and I doubt his only goal was to win OW of a REGIONAL tournament. I think with his skills, he is working hard for his second state title and a possible OW, or even a best match when he faces Creagan in the finals. Region X Forever, Everybody else never!!!!!!!!!!!
  13. Brett had some personal issues and does not wrestle anymore.
  14. Just curious, what is Kent Johnson's overall record and his record since returning from injury. He is seeded first, but when he wrestled at 103 two years ago. What is his chances of returning to the state finals?
  15. Congrats to houston for winning the region. The dragons had a chance with three guys in the finals at 189 to 285, but the other wrestlers worked hard and won their weight classes. Now that the regional competitions are done, good luck to region X qualifiers and show the rest of the state there are some great wrestlers from Memphis. Memphis forever, Chattanooga Never!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
