  1. Last year, Sevier County's offense averaged 13 seconds between plays to start the game and proceeded to boat race JC. Controling/handling the pace is key. JC will score, the question is can they get stops. If they're smart, JC's coaches took the same approach that LSU did in preparing for Oregon.
  2. Now that wouldn't be just because they beat Maryville those 2 years would it?
  3. 28-3 Jeff County at the half. Pats put up 21pts in the span of 5 minutes to end the half.
  4. If you had your way my team would remain in the position that its in. If you don't expect better performance you won't get it.
  5. You're really going to lecture me on Jeff County football? Really???
  6. Still can't get over Coach Hutch putting on the W of Mo West, never thought I`d see the day Oh well, gotta pay the mortgage I suppose.
  7. Therein lies the rub. 8-3 looks a lot better than 5-5 even though your team might not actually be better. One of the things that has to happen for this thing to get turned around is a change in the attitude and culture surround the JC program. For entirely too long this program, and from what I`m seeing here fans, have accepted losing, have accepted the status quo, have accepted the way things are, have accepted that simply trying to make the playoffs is enough. The kind of attitude I see here is EXACTLY the thing that needs to be purged from this program. If you don't expect better you will never get better. That's actually one of the things I like best about Coach Cobble, he's not content with the status quo. Changing the attitude is the first step, and it is an important one. I don't know what program you follow or root for but it is obviously not Jeff County. The fact that you don't know that JC made the playoffs last year is evidence enough for me that you don't know what you're talking about. The fact that no one else called you out on it tells me all I need to know as well. The playoff formula allows JC to beat Sevier County and automatically make the playoffs since they are the only other 6A program in the conference (which is why a lot of 6A schools who play in better conferences hate the current playoff system). If you are asking me if I would rather have a hollow 8 wins or a meaningful 5 win I`ll take the 5 wins. If you can't compete with and beat quality 5A teams you don't deserve to make the playoffs, simply as that. Window dressing and gaming the the system in an attempt to make yourself look better than you actually are is not something I am in favor of. It doesn't actually help the program like you and some others believe. Playing a cupcake schedule does not allow you to accurate judge you team or your program. There is no measuring stick for where you are and how far you need to go. Making the playoffs by default and then getting rocked in the first round is not something JC should aspire to. So long as that is the goal and the expectation that is exactly what JC will achieve. This idea that you can get better by playing worse team is disgusting. We use to break huddles with "Pride." Where the h*** is the pride in the JC football program? I certainly don't see it expressed here. Folks are talking about programs like Oak Ridge, DB, Maryville as though they are greek gods from on high. These are programs that should be viewed as peers. We should not be afraid of going toe to toe with a team because they may beat us, even if it is an absurd number of times like DB has beaten us in a row. I will repeat myself, unless you play quality opponents you have NO WAY of measuring yourself. This "woe is me" attitude has to go. The talent pool in Jefferson County didn't suddenly dry. There aren't worse athletes in the county than there were from the early 2000s back. We've gone the way of South Doyle (and previously Farragut), having better athletes walking the halls and playing other sports than are actually on the football team. The coach that is able to harness all or most of talent in Jefferson County will produce a team in the same vein as the teams that JC use to produce. Hopefully Coach Cobble is the guy to do that. I can tell you this though, unless there is an attitude change, unless expectations change, the product on the field won't change. And no amount of pounding weak OOC teams and even weaker conference teams will change what happens when it matters.
  8. When I played we played in a conference made up exclusively of 5A teams to the necessity to schedule other 5A teams was not there. Things are very different now, JC is in a region with only 1 other 5A school meaning it HAS to schedule other 5A school in the OOC. Maryville doesn't need to load up its OOC schedule (yet they play O.R in the OOC anyway), Bearden and Farragut are in their conference plus W.B and Heritage. O.R is in a similar situation as JC, but they go out an play Farragut and Maryville every year. DB is in a similar position but they've schedule Sevier Co and Farragut.
  9. Loosen the schedule? The schedule is a joke. It has nothing to do with needing something to complain about. The moment the new regions and classifications were announced it was obvious that JC's schedule would be very light and the program would have to challenge itself in the OOC. This team finds nothing out about itself by playing this schedule and even with a 10-0 record won't know if it can handle a good 5A team. You rattle off Mo West and Heritage as though they compare to Maryville, O.R, Farragut, DB etc. Teams that JC will have to face when it matters. Mo West is going to be on the schedule regardless, we deserve no credit for playing them. We have choice when it comes to who we decide to play in the OOC. Padding the schedule just allows folks to beat their chest but does nothing for the actual team or the program.
  10. With that schedule they should. I wish JC would have had a schedule like that when I played, we would have went undefeated every year. I don't know how JC plans to be prepared come playoff time when we pad the schedule with 4A teams and terrible 5A teams. Every effort should have been made to put DB on the EVERY year along with another perennial 5A playoff team. Just playing Sevier County isn't going to cut it.
  11. Then you should know better than to make an asinine comment like a regular season game against an out of region opponent could be one of the biggest games in Patriot history. Its a slap to the face the teams you talked about above. BTW, you aren't the only one who has lived it. I've left blood, sweat, and tears on Leroy Shannon Field to make sure Patriot Pride means something.
  12. Not a big student of Patriot football history I take it?
  13. Not true at all, you mistake critiques for dislike which isn't the case. May I ask what you post has to do with JC football?
  14. I don't want to turn this thread into a coaching discussion but the idea of keeping a coach because he tries really hard and loves his job is flawed IMO. It doesn't matter what coach you talk about, trying really and loving the job doesn`t make someone a great coach. You can put in a lot of effort and love your job and not be a good coach. I don't mean to downplay the importance of effort or love for the job, those are important attributes to have but so is knowing what you're doing. Sorry but the "he tries really hard" defense for a coach is meaningless if the losses continue to pile up. At the end of the day it is about winning.
  15. Jeff County running the spread, now I've heard and seen it all. I hope people are patient because transitioning to the spread can be a VERY ugly process. It is very rare that teams switch to the spread and immediately have great success. It could be 2-3 years before things are running on all cylinders. A MUCH needed change though.
