Funeral services have been set for 1 p.m. Monday, March 19 at the Lebanon Cumberland Presbyterian Church for Lebanon High football legend Clifton Tribble, 76.
Coach Tribble, who spent 36 years in the Wilson County School System as a teacher, football coach and principal, died Friday, March 16 following an extended illness.
A member of the inaugural class of the LHS Sports Hall of Fame, he starred at fullback for the Blue Devils in the 1950s, then returned to LHS as head football coach in the 1960s where he led his team to the Clinic Bowl. He coached Louis Thompson and many other LHS standouts. He also spent many years as a TSSAA football official.
He leaves behind his wife Peggy, five children, 15 grandchildren ans 16 great grandchildren. The football field at the new LHS (set to open this fall) bears the name "Clifton Tribble Field".
