  1. Jellico? Pickett County beat them 83-72 and 78-39. Pickett Co. was upset in the region final by Gordonsville who they had beaten 3 times and had to go to Chattanooga Prep in the substate. Jellico even lost to Clarkrange who won just 5 games all season. I was very surprised to see them make it.
  2. This is a message that I sent to TSSAA: I am concerned about schools having a huge home court advantage in basketball for region games. I understand your connection with East Robertson, but that should not be a factor in this. East Robertson hosts the region every other year. That doesn't help the E.R. girls' team, but it certainly gives the boys a huge advantage. With Greenbriar, Springfield and White House Heritage nearby, any of those schools should hold the region so that the region tournament gives no school a huge advantage. Or, there must be other schools available east of East Robertson which would cut down on District 7 schools' travel. Cross Plains is a 2 hour drive from Clarkrange for example. I hope that TSSAA will correct this huge unfair advantage that East Robertson and other schools have had. Monterey also hosted the region last year. I am sure there are other schools doing the same thing. 7A never allows a member school to host. Our teams have played at Jackson County, White County and Livingston.

  4. The boys' AP Poll is out. I don't know why the girls' poll isn't.
  5. Congratulations Riverside. East Robertson never ashould have been allowed to be in that game. Riverside should have won by forfeit. I went to their game against York and they were shoving York players after the whistle all night long, started fights, and were the worst team as far as sportsmanship I have ever seen. No team ever deserved to lose more than they did.
  6. The "odd" thing is nonsense. Some teams may get back to the 3rd round the next year, most most likely in most situations there will be a lot of different teams. For a 12-0 team which beat a highly ranked at the time, a 4A school and then beat defending state champion Friendship on the road, is ridiculous. Teams going unbeaten should be rewarded and that has nothing to do with ranking. Yes, both are #1 seeds, but York is unbeaten while Hampton lost 2 games. York's side won 3 of 4 first round games as well.
  7. Marion County was way overrated in the AP Poll at #2. Sure they were unbeaten but look at their schedule. They beat just 1 team with a winning record in the regular season. I think East Robertson will run away with this game. Marion County may have some good athletes but playing a very weak schedule doesn't prepare you for the tough teams in the playoffs.
  8. Like last year, Region 2 is stronger. Bledsoe County in this one.
  9. Did Eagleton Academy draw away athletes from Maryville? I was surprised to see Maryville struggling this season. 6-4 would be good for most teams but not for them. but then I was also surprised to see them beat Alcoa.
  10. If York played East Robertson's weak schedule with only Smith County being a difficult game...which they lost, Myles would have greater numbers too. No one on ER's schedule is as good at Stone Memorial or Friendship Christian, plus Bledsoe County and Clay County are also very good. York couldn't help playing a couple of weak region teams.
  11. I've seen both teams and I think Bledsoe County won't have any trouble winning this, especially since they are at home.
  12. #1 York quarterback Myles Leffew has led the Dragons to a 9-0 record with wins over 4A Stone Memorial when they were ranked #8 in the state, state ranked #7 Clay County 26-0, who went to the championship games last year, #3 Friendship Christian away, Bledsoe County 27-17 away and 1 loss Oneida 28-0 away. Against very tough competition he has 813 rushing yards, 549 passing yards, has led the team to #1 in the state, a 9-0 record, with the team scoring 31.1 points while giving up 6.5 and he has 28 solo tackles on defense.
  13. I'm a York fan, but Oneida won't lie down.
  14. Pickett County has everyone back. They should easily return to the state after being there last year, a year before they were expected to make it.
  15. What do you think about this game? I think York has no trouble winning this game.
  16. And why wouldn't they? They have added a GREAT player, went into overtime at Chattanooga Prep in the substate last year, have 5 starters back, have been to the state 10 times and have won 2 state championships. They have a former Mr. Basketball and state championship winner as coach as well. What an odd statement for you to make. They have been a great program since the late 1980s. They are also in one of the toughest districts in the state if not the toughest. 7A had 4 teams in the AP Top Ten last year and 3 at one point most of the season. Don't you know much about single A teams? You sound like someone who has been soundly beaten by PC, or are just jealous.
  17. Pickett County now has Nathaniel Cobb who attended Allardt Elementary in Fentress County, but is from Pickett County. He chose Pickett County for high school. He is listed at 6'3" but when I spoke with him yesterday, he looked taller. He is an impact player and was a Tennessee Impact All Star player and should add a lot to a team already expected to go to the state. Being a freshman and new to a team that already has starters back, to be fair to those players, he might not start, but he certainly will get a lot of playing time.
  18. Now that spring basketball is over, York beat Gibson County, East Nashville, Livingston, Loretto, White County twice, Green Hill. Maryville, Farragut, Knox Catholic, Whitehouse, Warren Co., Beech, Elizabethton, Knoxville Webb, Middle Tennessee Christian, Lipscomb, Seymour, 3 Georgia teams and 2 Kentucky teams. They also won all their games on another day but i didn't get those results, other than they won. Their loss to East Robertson was by a few points but Miss Basketball runner up Reese Beaty didn't play, nor starter Raylee Werner. The only losses at full strength were to 4A state runner up Bartlett and Div ll state runner up Ensworth. York easily beat McMinn Central by 15 points last year. York only lost to Westview at state last year by 2 awhile McMinn Central lost by 19, so until McMinn proves they can beat York, I think York is the team to beat this coming season.
  19. They also won all the rest of their games except a close one without their Miss Basketball runner up and their next best player. I guess that's why they beat Elizabethton easily.
  20. York went to the semifinals. They have most everyone back.
  21. York won all of their games at MTSU and UT except for one game which they lost by a few. In that game they didn't play Miss Basketball runner up Reese Beaty, nor another outstanding player, Raylee Werner. Had they played they would have won easily. In their last game on the Pat Summitt Court in Thompson-Boiling Arena, they easily beat 4A Elizabethton, who went to the state semifinals last year and lost in 2 overtimes. They were 30-5. It looks like York will have a great shot at returning to Murfreesboro for the 3rd straight year.
  22. York was in the state semi-finals last year. They have a lot coming back and can't be counted out.
  23. Pickett County has everyone back from a team that went to the state a year earlier than expected. They will start 2 seniors, a junior, and 2 sophomores with 2 other players who will play a lot. They have at least 3 players who could be Miss basketball nominees. They have gone to the state 6 of the last 9 years. The other 3 years they lost in the region and were 23-6, 18-9 and 19-9.
  24. York lost 3 starters but with Miss Basketball runner up Reese Beaty back and with other good players taking the place of the lost starters they will again be very good. They were the 2nd best team again last year losing to Westview by 2 points while the other teams Westview played lost by a bit more.
