  1. Congrats to the Spartans on the win. Another great job by Coach Meske and staff getting the most out of the numbers they have. They lose a ton of Seniors and have a very small Junior and Sophomore class. They'll have work to do to get back.
  2. Is there an online stream for this game? Would like to watch this game but live outside the MyTV 30 area. Thanks!
  3. I haven't been on the "T" for a long time but I just had to log in today and congratulate the CAK Warriors on a very impressive win last night! Would have loved to have seen this game in person... just sounded like an "Instant Classic" from all the accounts I have read. Again, hats off to the Warriors! Oh... one more thing. It appears, in the time I've been away from Coach T, some Alcoa folks get their giggles by referring to Christian Academy of Knoxville as CAKe. They have my respect by beating the Alcoa "Breeze" 3 out of the last 4!
  4. He pitched at the HS level but will most likely be a middle infielder for UT. REBELRON... he was a very good passer/runner when they asked him to do either. You hit the nail on the head about him being a field general. He knew the wing-t and mid-line veer offenses they ran inside and out. He was very good at getting everything running precisely and was really good at hiding the football when carrying out fakes etc. It's the small details like that which made Webb's offense tough to defend the past few years while he was QB.
  5. Obviously the Blance brothers are very talented and are a threat on any play to take it the distance, however what made Webb good the past two years was they had above average lines for them on both sides of the ball. The 2009 team had good depth and 17 seniors while last years team had good size in the lines with speed in all skill positions. Over the past two years they have had heavy graduation loss in both lines and have a lot of work to do in order to open holes against anybody they play this year for the Blances to run successfully. They will dress no more than 40 players including freshman and will only return two starters on both lines total. However, on offense they will have 3-4 RBs who are very talented along with a playmaker at WR. QB is a question as the 4-year starter has graduated. On defense they return all LBs and DBs but only one DL. Their LBs are hitters who can run while their DBs are young but will be special this year and next. With that said, they will have a tough first two games with Maryville and Ensworth. Once they move into region play I see FRA and DCA being tough while I'm not sure about the others. This year more than most they have zero depth. They will be playing a bunch of kids both ways and staying free of injuries will be very important for them to have success.
  6. Absolutely right, thanks for the correction...
  7. The folks down at CPA are really going to like Vic Jr. He's a big-time playmaker and was probably Knoxville Catholic's best returning player on a very talented squad. I've seen him play since youth football and always knew he'd be exceptional. I've never seen him play basketball but I've heard he's very good. Overall, he's just a great athlete. Vic Sr. should do well at CPA too. The kids have always liked him and he knows what he's doing with track athletes, especially sprinters. Vic also has a lot of connections from his past in Nashville and will no doubt attract some kids to CPA in the future. Good luck to both of them.
  8. As an aside... can anyone tell me why Coach Owen's son went to BGA back in the day?
  9. They haven't lost to a Knox County public school in many years and are something like 14-1 over the past 10 years or so. This record includes multiple wins over Bearden, AE, Powell, Halls, Central and your West Rebels. They haven't played the teams you mentioned recently, but you could ask anyone from Maryville who went to the Webb vs Maryville scrimmage this past season and find out how that turned out. Not sure what it would take to prove anything to you but I think if you went around the Knoxville area and asked those who follow HS football, they would tell you that Webb has proven itself and have the respect of many. Just sayin...
  10. Robby Collier is the Assistant Head Coach at Webb and coaches DBs. He is an absolute great coach and person. Kevin Catlett is the D-Coordinator and does a fantastic job every year. Randy Carroll has been a terrific addition to the staff at Webb School the past two years. He does a great job handling the JV and offers a tremendous amount of experience plus the kids really like him. I've said it before and I'll say it again... the coaching staff at Webb is without question at the very top in the state. It was a pleasure getting to know them over the years and I will always hold them in the highest regard.
  11. Well nobody can say Webb is going to ease into the season next year. Week 0 vs. Maryville and then Week 1 vs. Ensworth. Back to back 2010 State Champs will be a fun to watch. Webb has a chance to be pretty good next year but it will all depend on finding practically all new starters on the o-line and d-line... I think they're only returning 1 starter from each. On offense all 3 RBs return but they will need to replace the QB and WR. On defense all LBs and DBs return.
  12. Agreed... see Webb School play for a clinic on how to effectively run the wing-t. I would also agree that it can be a monumental failure of an offensive system if it's not run correctly.

Webb returns 8 on defense but will have to replace both DEs and one DT. They only return 4 on offense, all 3 RBs and one OG. The other 7 will all be newcomers at each position so they'll have to work hard to get ready. The returning RBs are all very talented but with a practically brand new O-line, it could take a while for them to work together as a unit. This year's O-line was very good and had very good size with two tackles that were around 6'4" 280 and two others that were probably 225 or so. Next year's line will not have near this kind of size but you can take it to the bank that Coach Meske and the coaching staff out there will coach up whoever they have.
  14. Webb has some work to do if they're going to compete with Maryville next year. They return 8 on defense but will have to replace both DEs and one DT. The returning players will also go into this game knowing that they can compete with Maryville as they performed very well against Maryville in a pre-season scrimmage. Should be a great day for HS football in Blount County and East TN!
  15. APB... so I thought Alcoa vs. Webb was set. Why did it change to Alcoa vs. Cleveland in the first game?
