  1. You also had Raul Mondesi. The ONLY positive thing he did in a Braves uniform came the night I was in Atlanta when he hit the walk-off homer. The two guys I was with were laughing more than cheering. But for what it was worth, Izzy was on the DL then and the bullpen was out of whack. It'll be a good series.
  2. Not quite, but we are realzing what it is like to play with 50% of your opening day roster on the DL. thumb
  3. 5 teams from region 7 in the top 15 is impressive. I'd put Camden in the top 5 though. Unless they have an off week, I predict they will be in action on Thanksgiving weekend. Outside of Alcoa, 2A is the one division where west of the river is dominant over the rest of the state.
  4. Toronto is only 3.5 behind the Yankees and 4.5 out of the wild card and get Hallady back next week. Anybody think they might can maek a run at it? When Halladay went down I thought they would fall apart, but they have done well.
  5. I figured since they were playing this weekend and most people that post here pledge allegiences to one of these teams, we might as well have one thread for the upcoming weekend series. Both teams have had more than their fair share of injuries this year, yet they bost the two top records in the NL as of today and this could be a preview of some mid-October baseball. The Cards pitching lineup looks to be Mulder, Marquis, and then Carpenter. Who will the Braves be throwing? It looks to be a good series. Anybody going up for it? Let the good-natured trash talk begin! thumb
  6. It can be made in under 10. Yes, I was at both. It didn't look like the home side was full to me at either game, but I'll take your word for it.
  7. LOL Forgive him VG, he doesn't know who he is dealing with.
  8. Maybe I'm the only guy outside of the Riverdale family that feels this way, but I hope they go to Ohio and spank Kilbourne. Whether people like it or not Riverdale, Maryville, MBA, and BA are still the primary faces of Tennessee high school football and when they succeed against out of state teams then the state as a whole looks better. So for all of the Riverdale haters out there, you should consider cheering them on in this game, because if they lose it makes you look even worse when Riverdale beats you 63-0! thumb
  9. I'm expecting Lexington to return to good ol' fashioned Stoweball and run the ball 85% of the time or more. It will be interesting to see how many different ways they try to get the ball in Buckey's hands. And you're right, people wrote this region off when Crockett left and rightfully so when you compare it to region 7-3A (it is stacked), but I think that it's going to have some pretty good football top-to-bottom.
  10. Oooooooooohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.............I got it! The Elitist Eight! Just kidding, just kidding.
  11. Hmmmm.......I really have no clue, but I think people are underestimating Lexington a bit because of how much and who they lost. They will still have enough talent to make things interesting. Don't know if they have enough to win the region, but they will be competitve with everyone. I still say Fayette-Ware is the wild card in this bunch and when they play teams are going to make a huge impact on this region. They play McNairy week 2 and then don't have another region game until week 6 and I think they will improve a lot during that stretch. Even if they don't get in, I say they win a region game or two and have a say-so in final standings.
  12. Actually got a logo idea for you that works in the Big 10 logic. Take the "S" from super in one color and impose in on top of a 7 in a different color that would form an 8. It looks good in my head anyway.
  13. Back in my playing days we scrimmaged McNairy twice at McNairy and both times the QB club had a sack lunch for us after the game for the ride home. Always thought that was a really nice gesture on behalf of their school to provide that for use, and after the scrimmage it was MUCH appreciated.
  14. What were the preseason region predictions?
  15. Maryville vs. Riverdale And one game I make journey back to West TN to watch just to laugh, USJ at Huntingdon. I've always wondered how those 10-0 USJ teams would have fared against the Mustangs.
  16. Nope. Babe Ruth is it's own thing. Most towns around here pick it up at age 13 even though they have the Ripken League for 9-12. There seem to be three leagues that all youth leagues in TN associate with, Little League, Dixie Youth, and Babe Ruth.
  17. Does anyone have the schedule for the Huntingdon Jamboree? Has it been made yet?
  18. Would this even matter if both schools weren't a favorite every year to make it to the Boro? Of course not. If both schools were consistent .500 teams you wouldn't care. I'm in no way assocaited with Maryville (or Melrose for that matter), but I always get a good laugh of how so many people try to discredit their success in any way possible.
  19. I get chills when I think about the entire crowd going "Cheeeeeeeeese" much like the Moose calls in Dallas back i nthe early 90s.
  20. Do you think it would be allowed to go to the games with a Henry jersey on with my cheesehad?
  21. How I wish I could put the pads on one more time......... I've been is solid baseall mode since April, but the football bug bit me hard last week and I am ready for it to start. 13 days till Aug 1, 32 days until Jamborees/Week 0, and 47 days until kickoff in Knoxville. But hey, who's counting?
  22. Did not know that coach. Really need to see that movie anyway, may do it this weekend. I've tried to read as much as I could the past 12 hours, and I've not seen an overall budget for JMC. I noticed they had put $2.5M from debt reduction to the schools to offset part of it in one article, but is there anyway that the money can be swapped from different departments to fund schools? Every article I read has had a "Doomsday" scnerio to it, but I can't find if any other ideas had been thrown on the table or not besides a tax increase or nothing.
  23. You have figured it all out, it's all USJ's doing so they can compete in 2A! I suppose some of them promised extra campaign donations next time around to any commission member who shut down JMC schools atheltics? Give me a break. The problem facing JMC schools isn't a problem of any one party, it's a problem all governments have from the local to the federal level. They spend and spend and spend (granted in some ways mandated from higher up) until it reaches critical point then they scramble to save their own rear ends because every single one of these "pubic servants" is an elected politician who cares 10 times more about being reelected than to actually do something that will help his constitutients no matter party affiliation. A little prediction. The commission and school board will reach some type of compromise towards a 50/50 increase in funding and budget cuts to save everyone's political life. Being as that only 10% of the people that will be at that meeting tomorrow night will care about any other possibly cuts other than sports, the cuts will come from arts, bands, busing, "non-essestial" cirruculum, etc. and JCM, Liberty, North Side, and South Side will all be playing on August 27. However, and I hope it does not happen here, eventually some poor group of high school kids somewhere, sometime are going to be group that it finally does happen to, and sports will be cut. Eventually a group of citizens will call their government's bluff and will not allow a tax increase to "save the kids" after constant fiscal mismanagement. And sadly enough, it needs to happen to make a complete mockey of the local government officials, and make that group and others more accountable and responsible in the handling of their revenues and expenses. Until then, I just hope that our "public servants" will eventually decide upon a new pawn to use to get their way other than a bunch of 14-18 year olds. And I do wish to hear Vol General's comments on this entire situation.
