  1. The Jacksboro Eagles travelled to Oak Ridge for a non-district matchup with the Jefferson Eagles. The Jeff Eagles prevailed by a score of 6-0, scoring the winning TD late in the 4th quarter. DeMarcus Rogers, the ultra talented RB for OR-Jeff was held in check most of the night, scoring the game's only TD on a pass reception after beautiful play action by QB Tyler Clark that sucked the Jacksboro defenders in. Rogers may have had 50-60 yards on the night rushing. The Jacksboro Eagles fall to 0-3 overall, 0-1 in district play. The next four games, starting with Maynardville at home next week, are all district games.
  2. The Jacksboro Eagles travel to OR Jefferson tonight. Will post the score later tonight. Does anyone have information on William Blount MS? There is stuff on here about Alcoa & Maryville, but WB looked unbeatable in their 1st two games. How did they do last week?
  3. Clinton has suffered two blow-out losses, but snapped back with a close loss to Carter last week. Dragon QB Jonathan Dye is a dual threat, but appears to be more dangerous with his feet than his arm. He broke off a 55 yarder for TD vs. Carter. Don't know much about the rest of the Clinton offense other than they don't appear to have much of a rushing attack. Of course, the Vols may have trouble running against Oak Ridge & Bell Co., KY. After a strong defensive performance vs. MoEast in the opener, the Cougars were dismantled at Jeff Co. last week. The offense has yet to find the end zone in their first 2 games. Despite the lopsided loss to Jeff Co., the Cougars QB showed some promise. Also, Cougar TB Chris Johnson was held to 37 yards on only 9 carries vs. Jeff Co. after gaining 113 on 25 carries vs. MoEast. Look for a return of the stingy defense, a balanced offensive attack, Johnson having a "coming out" game (150+) thumb , and the Cougars roll in their home opener. Campbell Co. 24 Clinton 10
  4. I humbly second the nomination of Shiverdecker - the kid can play! Best of luck to him and the rest of the Pats next week.
  5. Unlike a certain pompous ###### on here, most of the Jefferson Co. fans were gracious hosts and even more gracious with their outstanding showing tonight. Gotta give JC4life credit for his prediction of the game. The Patriots took the opening KO to the house and it was all downhill for the Cougars from there. I mistakenly thought that with a new offensive backfield, the Pats would be a closer match for the Cougars. Future opponents of the Pats had better beware: they have simply reloaded after losing Jennings & Scooter. #20 Soph. Chris Shiverdecker & #33 Jr. Trey Reliford are both strong runner who know how to take the ball upfield. The Jeff Co. offense exploited the Cougar D all night, primarily between the tackles. GREAT GAME PATRIOTS
  6. The Jacksboro Eagles dropped their home opener to the Clinton Hawks by a score of 6-0. As the score indicates, neither team posed an offensive threat until late in the game when a Hawk caught a rebound pass that was intended for another receiver and scooted down the sideline inside the 10. Even then, the Eagle defense held on downs, but could not punch it out of the shadow of their goal line. After a punt to the 34 yd line, on 3rd and 8, the Hazelhurst (?) broke free for the only TD of the game with a little over 2 minutes left in the game. The Eagles are now 0-1 in district and 0-2 overall. The play at OR Jefferson next week and have to deal with RB DeMarcus Rogers.
  7. There will be much excitement if Cambpell Co. wins 5 games this year, but a victory over Jefferson Co. will not cause Cougar fans to "go crazy" like in the 2001 victory over the Pats. In Friday's victory over MoEast, there was very little celebration by the players themselves. They huddled around their coach and started talking about taking care of business with Jeff Co. These kids believe in themselves and will be ready for the Patriots. Keep laughing - I hope the JC players have the same attitude.
  8. JC4life, What about Jefferson Co. makes you so overconfident about Friday's game? Is Scooter and Jennings back for another year? Did the outstanding HC decide to come back? A MoEast fan last night said they scrimmaged Jeff Co. and he wasn't that impressed. I may have to eat my words, (no problem there being a MN Viking fan also), but the Cougars are hungry and are not intimidated by the traditional powers. Actually, it was an upset victory over Jeff Co in 2001 that started the Cougars on their upward movement. Granted, we have nowhere to go but up, but don't mark it up as a Jeff Co. W without at least letting the boys kick-off and play.
  9. Campbell Co. did satisfactory offensively against Morristown East, but did not rack up big numbers. Chris Johnson lead the ground game, gaining 107 yards on 25 carries. At QB, Brance Stiner of 4 of 9 for 82 yards, with no picks or no TDs. The brightest spot was the ball control the Cougars exhibited throughout the evening. No turnovers and a couple of good solid drives. However, on the downside, they could not punch it into the endzone due to penalties and surrendering untimely QB sacks. Johnson did have some negative yardage carries, but also broke off runs of 15, 16, and 41 yards. (stats are not official)
  10. I don't know much about Farragut, but Heritage came to Campbell Co for a preseason scrimmage. The Cougars handled Heritage fairly easy, with RB Chris Johnson breaking off several impressive runs, 2 for 40+ yds and TDs. The Heritage offense was ineffective against an improving and more confident Cougar D. However, it was simply a controlled scrimmage, so who knows?
  11. I don't see the Campbell Co defense surrendering 28 points unless they offense gives the Pats a short field. Don't underestimate the potential for the Cougar passing attack. If Jeff Co stuffs the box to slow Chris Johnson, look for Brance Stiner to have a good night with WR Billy Davis and WR Josh Allen. Also, the potential for Johnson on a screen could be scary for opposing defenses. With our history, we cannot be overconfident, but 4 yr Coach Dewayne Wells have these young Cougars believing in themselves, and that in itself is special in Cougar Country. The I-75 pipeline to Anderson Co. had slowed to a trickle with only 2 notable players for the Mavericks (Coleman & Heath), so the Jacksboro and LaFollette MS talent is beginning to stay at home. Campbell Co. 20 Jefferson Co. 16
  12. Campbell Co has an improved O-Line with depth, a potentially All-Region/All East TN TB in Chris Johnson (107 yds rushing long 41/ 3-49 rec. long 40) and a young soph QB in Brance Stiner (4-9 82 yds 0 INT 0 TDs) who is gaining more poise and confidence with every throw. (ALL STATS UNOFFICIAL) I know the Patriots lost Scooter and that other stud RB, in addition to their HC. Also, Patriot fans should remember Chris Johnson who had about 200 return yards vs. Jeff Co. in his freshman year. Could be a very interesting match-up . . .
  13. The Jacksboro Eagles were crushed on the road at William Blount Wildcats 49-8. The Eagles were out of synch all night and the Wildcats played a flawless game by by #34 Lails, who looked like a man among boys. The Eagles had a fairly good preseason with a jamobree victory over Horace Maynard , a close jamboree loss to OR Jefferson (watch out for the DeMarcus kid - blazing speed) and an 8-8 tie in a 3 hour marathon scrimmage at Oneida. In the Oneida scrimmage, the Eagles had 15 turnovers, most of them unforced. In a scrimmage at Jellico, the Eagles manhandled the Blue Devils in varsity action 5 scores to 0. It will be interesting to see how the Eagles respond at home thursday vs. Clinton. The Eagles have not beaten the Dragons in recent years, but early reports indicate the Dragons are not as strong as usual. Any Dragon MS fans on here with some pre-game info?
  14. The 2004 Campbell Co. Cougars do not appear to be the Cougars of old, where they have been considered the best team to invite for homecoming. Although MoEast is not a powerhouse, the Cougars looked good on the road with a season opening 9-0 shutout of the Hurricanes. The Cougar D held the Hurricanes to only 5 first downs and scored on an interception and safety. Offensively, the Cougars moved the ball well behind the rushing of junior Chris Johnson (25-107) and the passing of soph QB Brance Stiner (4-9, 83 yds), but simply could not find the endzone. Johnson scored on a 6 yd run but the play was nullified by a illegal formation penalty. If the Cougar defense can handle Jeff Co on the road next week, the Cougs may be in good shape as the next 3 games will be at home vs. Clinton, South-Doyle, and Scott Co., games the Cougars should be favored. In the 30 year history of the school, CCHS has never won more than 3 games - Could this be the break-through season?
