  1. This was one of the most fun sporting events I have had the pleasure of watchng. Both teams were so even. Siegels defense was the difference. Still trying to figure out how they got some of the balls up. One last thought. Coach Thurmond is a legend and pure class as well as her players. It was bitter sweet seeing her have to walk off the floor with a loss. She has done as much as anyone in the state..before or after...to move volleyball forward. Thank you coach for making volleyball "matter" in Tn. You will be missed.
  2. If you look at other states and amount of matches they play, TN is a little out of whack. I think 50-60 matches in a season is a bit much. Playing Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday can be too much...in my opinion. Playing a quad mactch on a Sat is a good idea. You can choose who you play and you are not in a gym for 9 hours. Half the teams you play in most tournaments are pretty bad to begin with. Just a prospective.
  3. I hope I see you no sooner then state. NOT SECTIONALS!!
  4. 78 I will miss seeing you around....best of luck in the tournament. THe thing I will miss the most is you getting a certain individual in a figure four leg lock and getting him to "tap out".
  5. THis wasn't close. Not sure of scores but basically is was around 25-10 each match.
  6. Wow I can't belive your district is so small. WHy is that?
  7. Are they both unbeaten in district play?
  8. THis tournament didn't have a totally dominant team like in years passed. Mcgill-Tollin was absent from the tournament and that made for more parity. All the TN teams had a really good tournament. Cookeville and Brentwood stood out, however Father Ryan and Siegel really played well also. It was amazing how close the 3,4,5 and 6 teams were. The Cookeville - Grissom and Siegel - Pelham matches were really fun too watch. The amount of individual talent in the tournament was so impressive. The most talented team was Northview but for some reason they just couldn't play together. They no doubt had the most talent--they are an Atlanta team. Grissom's setter was incredible. Maybe the best setter I have seen in High School as far as fundamental skills go.
  9. Brentwood v Grissom in the finals Father Ryan and Cookeville in the consolation They didn't have a tournament, just the top 2 teams out of the pool played the championship and the 3 and 4 played for consolation. Not a well ran tournament. TN schools played great. Final places in pool play was 1-Grissom 2- B-wood 3 and 4 was cookeville and FRHS--not sure what order and Siegel was 5th, Bob Jones 6th. There were 2 pools of 5. Alabama pool and TN pool (with one Ga team) The teams were outstanding. Siegel finished 3-2 losing to Bob Jones and Grissom. Cookeville looked great and finished 4-1 in pool I think. They lost to grissom as well. Siegel beat Pelham (very good), Southwest High and Ashville. Not sure how the finals turned out.
  10. Siegel sweeps OHS. Don't have scores. Something like.... 25-15 25-19 25-10
  11. Siegel beat WCHS in three tonight....and it was a bit of a struggle. WC was ready to play. Not sure of the scores but it was something like: 25-23 25-23 25-10 Don't quote me on that, I wasn't at the game. The Freshman team one 2-1 and the JV won 2-0.
  12. last year Siegel lost several games in this play day, so don't take stock in wins and losses. Centennial didn't win much but looked good with key players missing. Ravenwood is looking great and idependance has a shot at the big trophy in my opinion. Siegel will be very inconsistent for a while this year, just like they were last year early. You may be right Cat...it will be interesting to see how it plays out.
  13. Yep. I hear they looked pretty good. They are really young though. It was the first game of the first scrimmage of the year. Don't read too much into any of it. It is going to take Siegel a while to gel. Lots of new parts.
  14. Siegel beat Revanwood 2-1. No scores.
  15. I know that Hank went with her to UT Camp and her husband stayed back with the girl. I have heard that her managers help her with the kid a lot. But if you have been around Siegel much at all, it is apparent that it is a family atmosphere. The parents/kids have always been so good with her kids.
  16. Kim coached Volleyball at Lebanon High School and then went to Siegel Middle. Guess who was her assistant one year at LHS was?? Coach Palk-Slaughter from Siegel. The High School program is very involved witht he Middle school program at Siegel. Coach Stoecker is a big reason of the success sigel has had and will continue to have.
  17. This is a great post and am really enjoying the takes. As far as being recruited strictly out of high school it is very difficult unless you are a freak OR you send a ton of game file out. But I would suggest that the kid that is sending game film out is also playing club ball. If you want to play college ball 1) you need to play club for the skills and 2) you neeed to play for the exposure. It is fairly rare for a player to play college ball *and contribute* to their college team. Speaking of Georgetown, I have so much repsect for that program, yet if you mentioned g-town to players they would first not have a clue who they were and then they would think..."just an naia school". So many athletes have the "D-1" myth in their head, yet G-town would pound many D-1 programs. (by the way how is their new coach?) Since this is the Top 10 Volleyball programs thread and we are bordering on changing the content. I look forward to the day when we can throw Siegel in on that list...just not there yet! And I agree- many coach's don't coach club cause they need a break.
  18. Germantown has to be in the top 5. 7 state Championships. THey have also been to the state in the toughest division for 300 straight years.
  19. Congrats to Red Bank on a great win. I would have loved to watch that game. It was no doubt the best sectional match up. Good to see Coach Thurman back at the state. Also Corgrats to Cookeville for a great run at the state. It was so much fun to watch Siegel and Cookeville battle all year. Coach Brooks came in and got that program going in the right direction. Cookeville is fairly young and both of those middles are returning. I really hope they play club ball. I forsee some great Cookeville Siegel battles next year also. Both teams bring back a lot of talent.
  20. ANOTHER GREAT MATCH BETWEEN COOKEVILLE AND SIEGEL. NOT SURE OF THE SCORES BUT SIEGEL LOST THE FIRST GAME AND WON THE NEXT THREE. SCORES WERE SOMETHING LIKE: 17-25 25-20 25-20 25-17 CHS PLAYS TERRIFIC DEFENSE. THEY JUST COULDN'T KEEP WITH SIEGEL'S OFFENSE. ALL REGION PLAYERS FROM SIEGEL STEPH CUTTER MVP AMANDA HORENKAMP--SHE WAS UNSTOPPABLE SARA LUCAS SHELBY SMITH I HEARD ALSO THAT THERE WAS A MISCALCULATION ON THE ALL REGION BALLOT AND #11 FROM COOKEVILLE MADE ALL REGION..VERY DESERVING. SHE WAS NOT PART OF THE CEREMONY WHICH IS UNFORTUNATE BUT SHE IS ALL REGION NONE THE LESS. BOTH MIDDLES FROM COOKEVILLE-- FRESHMAN AND JUNIOR. TULLAHOMA'S MIDDLE AND ONE GIRL FROM COLOMBIA...SOMEONE PLEASE UPDATE NAMES.
  21. I see what you mean CU, last year Siegel didn't get to play at MTSU. We played at Blackman and at Siegel. The finals should be on Saturday, that would be the solution. I am still ok with that because Siegel did not make the final four. Which in my opinion is the right amount of teams that should make the state. I do like how TSSAA has pool play and then seeds for the tournament. It ensures that the best teams play the weaker teams.
  22. OK, I have heard all this great talk about the Siegel Nation and how they are the most loyal fan's in high school sports. Well I have been to a couple Siegel Volleyball games this year and there are never more then 5 or 6 students at the games! So, my challenge is for the Siegel Nation to show up!!....Come to one game this year in support of your 45-10 Siegel Volleyball team. Even if we can only get 20 of the "siegel nation" to show up that would be great. So HARRIS HOOLIGANS if you can read this...then you better be there. There is also a Region game that night for the soccer team...so come to volleyball and then walk over to the soccer game!! Tuesday is the region at HOME!! Siegel plays Tullahoma and if they win that then they will play the winner of the Cookeville VS Columbia game. The Cookeville games this year of been incredible to watch. The championship game is at approx 7:00 and the stars will be playing in it hopefully. WE NEED THE NATION TO SHOW UP AND SUPPORT THE STARS.
