  1. I think the heavyweight that can do more than just throw will be the contender at state. He will have an arsenal that will put him above the rest!
  2. I think you guys are being a bit generous to Clarksville. I don't think they will have that many champs. They might have that many that place, but not as champs, I don't think.
  3. I suppose you are talking about wrestling "cheerleaders"? We have girls who are like team managers - they keep the books, clock, clean the mat after practice and also encourage and support the boys. Unlike cheerleaders from basketball and football who attempt to get the crowd into cheering and rallying the team, I think wrestling "cheerleaders" are more a distraction than a help. I've heard boys comment that they can't hear their coaches because of the girls. Sure, the girls are nice to look at, but are they helping? They pound on the mat, are not facing the crowd nor are they attempting to rally the crowd's support. Now, there will be multitudes of "cheerleaders" who will disagree - that is ok. To each their own. This is just my opinion.

  5. Interesting! What did you do? Come straight from the wrestling mat today, create a new screen name to spread this "information"? (Notice the joining date of this person.) I bet you just couldn't wait. I'm sure there's a TV show out that could use your "mole" talents. I know that this is different, it isn't like State Duals and such, but this person just seemed a bit too eager to pass this information along. Why? Is he the person who beat out Gosney (doubtful), or just someone who wants to have something to write about on this forum?
  6. CHS152wrestler - Knowing what little about your coach as I do, I cannot believe that he would approve of your post. Why don't you just show it to him and see what he says. If you have something to say, your opinion, just say it. When you do otherwise, you sink to the level of the other guy.
  7. Hopefully he can get it all together grade-wise, because that is what school is all about. Now about the wrestling, we will surely miss him, so, hopefully he will be able to come back and wrestle again. He was awesome!! And I really hate putting that in the past-tense, so Jake, if you are somewhere reading this, let's get this back in the PRESENT TENSE!
  8. Good for them! Seriously. It is hard when you don't have a full team to stay positive and focused. I wish them well. One (and there are many more) of the great things about the sport of wrestling is it is a TEAM sport as well as an INDIVIDUAL sport. So, even if the team as a whole does not do well (maybe because it isn't a full team), the individuals can still shine in the individual tournaments! Good Luck to all.
  9. Best of the West - What you say could be true for a lot of the heavyweight matches, but I must say that the State Championship heavyweight match last year between Greeneville's Crosby and Clarksville's Pennington, was absolutely the best heavyweight match I have ever seen. If you were there you saw that neither of these guys ran out of steam - on the contrary - they both were fighting tooth and nail right up to the final seconds of the double over-time. The mat was wet with sweat as they slid all around, blood from both opponents. It to me was the best match of the day, and IMO, should have received the votes for it. It has been said by some that the flip of the disc was the determining factor in the outcome of the match. Many have said the ending of the match could have swung the other way with the flip of the disc in favor of the other wrestler. We will never know, and it really doesn't matter now. I DO AGREE THAT THIS IS A RULE THAT SHOULD BE CHANGED.
  10. hey I would definitely pull for Collierville. they have definitely improved over time and I think they will be a contender. You are right, they might have been overlooked, as have other teams from West Tn. and they just might be a big surprise BUT, I think we have teams like East Ridge, REd Bank, Ooltewah and others that might bring it on. Franklin High could be a surprise also.
  11. dblduce - I agree with your placings of best wrestling areas. I sure hope though that everyone keeps improving because it can only make it more interesting. It is more fun to go to a game or a match and a "darkhorse" just to up and win the whole thing. Now, that's exciting. I think this year we just might see some darkhorses. I sure hope so. Let's keep it interesting!
  12. KKW - sounds like your tournament might be a little hard, but I think that by far the toss-up would have to be between McCallie & Greeneville.
  13. Well, UTC isn't one of the big 12 schools, but it does have 3 middle tennessee guys, Dillon Jennings & Jason Pennington from Clarksville, and Ian Thornhill from MBA. Pennington is starting for UTC.
  14. also, R. Weakley, of Clarksville High, has a brother, who is a junior this year. He placed in state last year, Jim Weakley, at either 160, I think, not positive on that weight.
