  1. Don't forget Troy Hodge (RB/LB), Bart Hicks (LB/FB), Randall Cobb (QB). and Cameron Battles (CB/RB). Shivy, Kyrus, Troy, and Bart missed the State Title in the 4x100 by a hair! If not for a botched handoff, they had a shot a taking the 4x200 also, with Cameron switching out with Bart. Randall was nursing a sore hamstring all spring, or he would surely have competed, as well. Darrell Tate (LB/RB) made it to the Regionals in the 100M but missed qualifying for the State. Alcoa is definitely blessed with speed!
  2. How many classifications does TSSAA allow a team to move up? I thought it was only one, but I may be wrong. I believe Alcoa's enrollment this year increased to around 435, but I think this is still single A enrollment. If all this is correct, Alcoa is moving up one classification and has for several years. Does anyone else have more accurate numbers concerning Alcoa's enrollment?
  3. Congratulations Kyrus! I have watched you play many games through the years. You are a tremendous athlete and a great competitor. Good luck in West Virginia!
  4. Alcoa will lift up this family, school, and community in prayer. May God's loving arms embrace all those who knew and loved this young man.
  5. Alcoa's first five games this year are by far the toughest stretch of the regular season. At Maryville, at CAK, then at home with Fulton, Loudon, and McCallie. I don't look for any of the remaining four games in that group to be easy. CAK is determined to regain some respect after losing twice to Alcoa last year. Plus, they have us on their home field. Fulton is on a quest for a return trip to State. Losing at home to Alcoa last year still stings. Loudon is definitely eager for another opportunity to face Alcoa after two shutouts last year. It has been said by a few Alcoa players that McCallie's QB is the best they have faced in three years. These will all be very exciting games!
  6. Sam Thompson from Alcoa. He has good speed and hands(WR), and will put a hit on anybody (SS). Starts both ways on this team. His first high school punt (replacing Fiegler) went 65 yards against Maryville last Friday. As a footnote, he is very bright, already holding a HIGH ACT score! We will hear great things about this young man during the next few years!
  7. Alcoa's Defense must be mentioned. If in doubt, just ask any Maryville player, coach, or fan after our 14-17 loss to them. There were plenty of big hits, and Maryville's punter actually got to play Friday night. Awesome game!
  8. QB depth is a concern. Rising soph (name ??) is working out at practices with Cobb. Only experience was Freshman/JV last year. Robert Frye, rising senior who moved here last year, can play. Also, Alex Green, rising senior CB, has been mentioned as a possibility if needed. Supposedly, he has a strong, accurate arm. No backups with experience, though, whatsoever.
  9. Darrell Tate was outstanding at running back during the scrimmage, running through several tackles. Randall Cobb, QB, took his first snap since October. He was a little rusty at first, but as time went on, he developed his rhythm and looked very good. I believe he threw 3 TDs to Brian Sommer, two of which were 40 yds or more. He also looked good on pitches and runs. Defensively, Rae and Bobby seemed to be everywhere. JD also had some good hits. Alex Green made a couple of good plays, also. Brian had an interception. Alcoa was burned twice on long passing plays, however. Considering we played without both safeties (Lanxter and Thompson), two LBs (Hicks and Hodge), 2 WRs (Lanxter and Thompson), and 5 RBs (Shiverdecker, Hodge, Battle, Stultz, and Hicks), I'd say it was a pretty good day!
  10. Alcoa also has some football players on the Track Team, as well. Competing at Sectionals Thursday for a trip to State will be: 4X100 relay Bart Hicks (starting LB; 05 BC Bowl MVP) Troy Hodge (backup RB, LB) Kyrus Lanxter (starting WR, FS, KO returns) Chris Shiverdecker (starting RB; 05 BC MVP) 4x200 relay Kyrus Lanxter Cameron Battle (backup RB, special teams) Troy Hodge Chris Shiverdecker 100M dash Chris Shiverdecker Bart Hicks It is doubtful any of these guys will be involved in the scrimmage Friday.
  11. Alcoa High School rising seniors: Kyrus Lanxter 6'2 175 WR/FS Averaged 23+ yds per reception; 7 interceptions; 14 TDs, including KO return and Int. return; All State, All Region, All County, 1st Team PrepXtra; has received offers from Vanderbilt, Louisville, Ole Miss, West Virginia, and Minnesota Rae Sykes 6'5 240 DE Broke his arm prior to end of season; 2nd in tackles up to that point; All State, All Region, All County; has received too many offers to list, including UT, LSU, and Notre Dame
  12. Not sure whether or not he is interviewing. However, his son will be a senior next year. I doubt he would entertain a move before then.
  13. Anthony Anderson (AE), Kyrus Lanxter (Alcoa), and Jared McGaha (Powell) were there. Also the QB from Chattanooga McCallie.
  14. Again, be careful of what you are saying. You have changed your story from the absolutely certain first phone call to, now, a text. However, if you will go to NCAA.org, you will find that "no direct communication" with a junior may be initiated by a college coach until May, when a phone call is permitted. College coaches may directly contact the high school coach at any time, and may write to juniors after Sept. 1. Any text received by a junior from a college coach was in response to a text sent originally by the player to the coach - if it is a permitted communication. All this to say - not trying to "prove you wrong" in the least! Just trying to make sure no one who has read your post has the impression that Coach Weiss "called Harrison first before any other player". Coach Weiss and Notre Dame University ae being presented as not following the rules by your remarks. Harrison is a tremendously gifted athlete who will certainly be recruited heavily. Continue to support him and cheer him on, but use caution when stating what "you know for sure."
  15. It's commendable that you are being very supportive of your friend. I agree with you that Harrison is a great player and top-notch athlete. He stood out among his peers in Little League, and has continued to rise to the top. Be careful, though, when stating things that you "know." If my information is correct, NCAA does not allow coaches to call players in their junior year until May, and then they can only make one call. This may be wrong, and if so, I apologize. Schools could officially contact players by mail Sept. 1 of their junior year. Players can call a coach at any time - perfectly legal. I know you would not want to jeopardize your friend's recruitment, so just check the facts before making statements.
