  1. Copied from Peabody's school page: From the George Peabody Museum website: The Southern states suffered greatly both during and after the American Civil War. Moved by their situation, George Peabody wanted to help. He believed that education would help the Southern people rebuild and so donated funds to "promote and encourage the intellectual, moral and industrial education of the destitute children of the Southern States." The Fund also attempted to establish a permanent education system run by qualified teachers. In recognition of this act of philanthropy, Congress unanimously approved a resolution of gratitude and presented Peabody with a gold medal. Also, President Andrew Johnson personally visited Peabody and thanked him for his efforts. He was a remarkable man who gave millions to those in need yet never actually bought any property for himself. Click on his picture to learn more. Peabody High School is proud to carry the name of such a fine person and we will throughout the school year post more information about his life. In the meantime please visit the website listed above to learn more about our namesake. More from the website: "Although George Peabody was first and foremost an American businessman, his philosophic ideals transcended the war. As such, he was more concerned with helping people than with politics. This was evident in the effort he put forth in the Peabody Education Fund."
  2. I think the West has what it takes. Peabody or Adamsville.... We shall see! I admit I don't know much about knoxville grace or Marion county, so I plan to study up this next week! I'll pull for Peabody regardless though!
  3. I see..... it could go either way in intention. It's probably a good thing social media hasn't always been in play! Worst conversations than that would've taken place.... It honestly gives Coaches yet another aspect to try and have to watch and coach the kids on. These days it goes beyond the football field. It gives today's football game a whole new dynamic. I've said it before, and I'll say it again.... I'm so glad social media wasn't around when I was in high school!
  4. I didn't see the original context of the Twitter dialogue, but could it be that Malone was simply saying "one more day" in that the game is only a day away? It's always hard to interpret text as we read it versus the context the original poster intended. . Nevertheless it was a great game from what I heard listening to the game on the radio. Peabody played a great game. Also I commend Kyle Akin on his record breaking high school career! Pretty impressive! I hope he goes on to great things. Good luck Peabody next week against McKenzie! Roll tide!
  5. Is there a radio station braodcasting the game that I can listen to online?
  6. Briarwood was scheduled to play Trenton tomorrow night, and that game has been canceled. The High School game is still on though.
  7. No worries! I'm pulling for Trenton. I'm from Camden... and we're obviously out now, but my husband is from Trenton............. So I definitely hope they put GP out! Oh and I wear black and gold no matter which team we're supporting for the night.... Whether it was Camden or Peabody. Can't go wrong with those colors /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" />
  8. Does anyone know if this game will be broadcast over the internet tonight? I live in Memphis, and I won't be making the trip to Madison tonight............... but I would love to listen to this game! Good luck to both teams!
  9. Good luck to the Tide next week! I'm from Camden and saw the GP/Camden game.... My husband is from Trenton, so I saw the great game last night between trenton and milan. All I can say is Trenton played one heck of a game! They never gave up, and I don't see them rolling over and giving up next week. GP will have their hands full... no doubt! Trenton has come a long ways since the first of the season when Camden played them. They have improved leaps and bounds! GP better watch out for # 7 and # 8! #7 has so much speed, and #8 won't go down! After seeing Camden fall to GP last week... I hope to goodness Trenton can put them out next week!! Good luck Peabody Golden Tide!!
  10. It's going to be good, cold football weather in Camden tonight! I'll be making another trek up from Memphis just to watch the Lions!! LionPride and littlekim18 better be saving me a seat! I'm ready to see what the Lions will do this week! I'm sure they're pumped up, and ready to play. I'm ready to STAND UP AND SHOW MY LION PRIDE!!! /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" />
  11. Camden is up 44 to 0 at half time. /popcorneater.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":popcorneater:" border="0" alt="popcorneater.gif" />
