    A-AA

We lost 3 to graduation and 1 to transfer. This is a brand new group.

CAK was 3rd place in the East with an 8:40. They aren't guaranteed to get to state. Do you know what the 3rd and 4th place times were for the Middle section? I can't find any results from that meet online.
  3. In the past 5-6 years there have been a number of track and field athletes that have come from TN that have represented the state very well on the National level while in HS and just as well as they have gone off to college. In just the last couple years the National Champion in cross country and the best female hurdler in the country have called TN home. I would say that Track and Field in the state of TN is very healthy. With all the success we've been having recently, I'd say that we don't need to change a thing. As a matter of fact, I'm not sure any of the "major" sports have had success on the national level anywhere near what the runners in this state have. Just my opinion!

I'm glad I don't have any sprinters or relays sitting in the 3rd or 4th spots in the East and Middle sections waiting to get one of the extra qualifying spots.
  5. I just saw the results of the West Sectional Meet. It would appear to me that this meet was hand timed, and if this is the case, how does qualification to the state meet work when the East and Middle meets are FAT and the West is hand timed? It looks like the first two races were FAT, and then after the 100 hurdles their all HT.
  6. Unfortunately for all good A/AA 4x4 teams, Fulton is still in A/AA and they ran 3:30.64 at KIL this past thursday.

    Coaches

There have been 17 posts (including this one) on the track board here on CoachT in the last week. And 6 of those posts were discussing important "athlete stuff" such as pool olympics. I'm not sure anything is getting cluttered.
  8. The following is from Vanderbilt's Track website: "All Nashville and surrounding area high school athletes are eligible to compete (must be eligible to compete for their high school under TSSAA rules)." "Coaches must make entries by 3pm Wednesday, April 9th. Final Invitations will be posted at www.vucommodores.com/greateight on Saturday, April 12."

  10. Now 3 days into the season are there any results to speak of?
  11. As tactical as the 100 can be (start fast-run hard) I don't think I could even fake statistics on a race thats done in 11 seconds. Would that be 50 meter split times? I thought instead I'd ask about the longest sprint race there was. As far as that goes I thought both Brainerd and AE lost several to graduation.
  12. Sounds like we need a change of subject, maybe even move away from distance a little bit. What teams will challenge for the 4x4 this year? We can even call the Mile Relay so the distance guys don't freak out too much.
  13. In certain cases the T$$AA will pay mileage costs, but for most teams they do not. I believe this was when the Spring Fling was in Memphis and there were schools in NE TN that were travelling over 8 hours to get there, but even then the amount they were "reimbursed" by the T$$AA was negligable. A couple stories I heard (and you know how these go, they may or may not be true): A school from the Tri-Cities area was sent a check for 32 cents to cover their travel costs. Another school from somewhere in the east never received there check. They called the T$$AA about it and were told that the check was not being sent because the postage exceeded the amount. Again, I have no idea whether these are actually true, but they were told to me at a coaches meeting a couple years ago. I guess the general idea here is you pay your own way, the T$$AA needs every cent they can get to pay their legal fees.
  14. If you are talking about the boys then thepenguin is correct, you'll need to be over 150, 115 probably won't even get you to state. If you are talking about the girls then 115 should get you near the top at state.
  15. I think the 4x4 to beat in the east this year is going to be Gibbs. They looked really strong, and seem to be pretty motivated. I wouldn't be surprised if they were under 3:25 before seasons end.
