  1. Tennessee High Hasn't won the conference since 04. We had in it in 05 until the costly exchange between Booher and Bell to fumble on our own 20. 06 we were coming off the DB game while South had a bye and they surprised wit the wing T but Still almost had it. 07 started off strong but too much Curt late in the game. 08 was never really a contest. I know I know if ifs and but were candy and nuts wed all have a Merry Christmas. Emotions will be running at an all time high for both teams thats for sure. I hate South has the injuries they do but that is football. Im looking for Tenn High to get the lead early, play too conservative and let South take the lead back in the 2nd Half. Tenn High will have a real late scoring drive to win the game finished off by a Tallman TD. Book it!! Thats what will happen. THS-34 South-28
  2. I live in Knoxville now and am dying to watch these games. Anyone know if there will be streaming audio anywhere on the internet?
  3. The last 4 years have been entertaining to say the least. Sci Hill takes this one though.
  4. It probably will be that matchup in the finals but Ive seen Sci Hill 5 times in the past 2 weeks and they have not looked good at all. Ashlon Adams has all the talent in the world but is playing like crap. The best game theyve played was the loss to DB in the Championship game.
  5. District 1 might sweep it but Tennessee High and Sullivan East have tough games. Anyone see any surprises in the mix?
  6. I sure wish hed have chose Tennessee, but that opened our doors with Scotty Hopson!
  7. Alot of the visiting teams can only play their first round games on certain days, like this year Briarcrest, Charlotte,FL,LA Dorsey, Ilonai, and Henry Carr could'nt play til the 27. So the visting teams have their first round time slot reserved. From there the local coaches gather at Arby's in Bristol in November and take a total blind draw on who their first round opponent will be. DB has gotten some bad draws and they do again this year. Tenn High recently has gotten some good draws but this year they have a tough one. The last time a local team won the Arby's was Science Hill in 1999. Science Hill is the only local team to have success in the Arby's in recent years with a Championship in 1999, runner ups in 1998 and 2001 and final 4 in 2004 and 2005. The only local team other than Science Hill to be in the final 4 in the past 11 years was in 2001 when DB and Elizabethton were in the final 4, along with Science Hill. IMO, I don't think a local team will ever win it again.
  8. I have to say I would be surprised if any local teams win their first round game this year. DB is the best local team but they play maybe the best team in Columbia,GA. I just saw where they are 19th in the nation right now. I spoke to someone who saw Archbishop Carroll play last week and he said they are the real deal and are the best team in D.C. That would be a heck of a semifinal game between those 2 teams but thats only if Carrol can get by Ralph Sampson and Northview who is undefeated right now. On the bottom side of the bracket I think its Briarcrest's to lose but Charlotte,Florida is a team to look out for also. I will say of all the local teams Sullivan East does have the best shot to win their first game simply because they play Tabernacle who is down this year because their best player Raymond Higgs transferred. But my prediction is Columbia over Briarcrest in the championship.
  9. I don't think anyone that actually watched the game tonight would agree with that post. Burnette was very impressive and is definitely a D-1 prospect. But his supporting cast and the gameplan his coaches give him are from from what Phillips has to work with. Phillips could have made any of those throws Burnette made but i know Burnette could never run the ball with the authority and the ability to take hit after hit as Phillips did. Good luck to Maryville at state.
  10. I have seen both teams play this year. I live in Knoxville and am from Bristol. I played against Curt Phillips and also played on the Tenn High team that played Maryville in 04. The fact is this. Maryville will by far have the best team on the field and South will no doubt have the best player on the field. Though this Maryville team is very talented and does have D-1 players, I dont think they are as good as that 04 team with Thompson and Bynum and Childs and all them and they will probably tell you that. This years South team is more equipped to have even a chance of pulling this upset simply because of Phillips. There have been players that can't live up to the hype but Phillips is the real deal and is worthy as the the number 7 ranked QB in the nation as Unapproved Website has him. The Maryville coaching staff is the best in the state and Im sure they have a gameplan to stop Curt. The only way South has a chance in this one is if they can open the passing game up be cause I think Maryville will focus on Phillps running the ball. South does have a capable group of receivers. Another thing is keep it close early. When we played them in 04 we got down early and it just snowballed and we were done after the 1st quarter. And as always is the key in pulling an upset, South will have to get some turnovers off of Maryville and that is not easy to do. Kind of like Brainerd did to Maryville last year. Maryville is ranked 7th in the nation by Sports Illustrated coming into this game. From what I hear the Vols are trying to pull Philliops from Wisconsin and get him to Knoxville, dont know how much truth there is to that but I know Cutcliffe has talked to him on occasion. Good Luck to both teams. This is going to be a great weekend for me Im going to this game Friday night and going to LSU-Tennessee on Saturday. I will be pulling for South because I cant remember the last time a team from the Mountain Lakes made the State Championship. But my prediction is Maryville 35 South 17
  11. Justin Morell- plays keeper for THS Andrew Powers- Plays striker and center-mid
  12. I was thinking before the game that DB would have a better chance to win on the road than Science Hill. I actually like their chances against Powell and perhaps District 1 can get 2 teams to state which hasnt happned since 98 when Tenn High and Science Hill both made it. Maryville will not be an easy game for Science Hill at all even at home but if they play anything like they did last night I like their chances.
  13. Actually my friend THS has had more postseason success in recent years than has Science Hill. Since 2001 District Championships THS-4 Sci Hill-1 Region Championships THS-1 Sci Hill-1 Sub States THS-3 Sci Hill-3 Regional Semi Finalists THS-6 Sci Hill-6 State Appearences THS-2 Sci Hill-1
  14. Saturday's games Morristown West @ Tennessee High Science Hill @ Cherokee Volunteer @ Greeneville Morristown East @ Dobyns Bennett Too bad these games cant all be at one site like other years. I like Tennessee High vs Science Hill in one semifinal and Dobyns Bennett vs. Greeneville in the other. That would be one good night of basketball over at South. To my knowledge, a team from Region 1 has made state every year since 1992. Is this the year the streak ends? I really hope not.
