This information came from a government official in Dickson County. I am not 100% sure of its accuracy but I dont think this individual would lie to me. The boys went for a swim in the ocean. They were caught in a rip current and they were trapped in the water. Everyone was able to get out except the young man who drown. He was under for too long. Coach Patterson suffered a heart attack while trying to save the boys. From what I am told Coach Patterson is still in the hospital in Florida.

Well I was sitting in the corner and what I saw was a guy weighing 175lbs wrestling a guy who looked like he would have been a large 195 pounder. I also saw that 175 pounder take several shot attempts while fighting off arms and legs that were SEVERAL inches longer. I saw that smaller wrestler trying several different turning combinations and doing everything he could to unwrap himself from tight waists that looked more like tight spines. There was no playing it safe on his side. His opponent was warned for stalling once on his feet and in my opinion should have been again while on top. There were no turn attempts from the larger wrestler. Unfortunately I don’t make those calls. I cannot and will not speak on the other match you mentioned because they are not my kids. The last thing I will mention seeing is a kid who very well could have won a state title at 170 (he pinned Stacy earlier in the year) but chose to wrestle up to get a challenge. His only loss on the year was to Brenot of Clarksville. Maybe you saw what he did tonight. Heckert is a gutsy kid who laid it all on the line this evening and I can assure you sir there was no playing it safe on his end. I did congratulate Smith because he won a state title and I’m not knocking Stacy, he won one as well.

Just curious. Where were you sitting during the Heckert/Smith match?

Little confused here. What weight class was Lowery and Ferrell wrestling?

I’m not knocking the Summit folks or WG for his opinion. Pete is not new or young so my original comment does not even pertain to them or their situation. CBG is right when it comes to committing though. The host coach has expenses to pay when he makes plans to host. He relies on the other teams to help offset those expenses. When a team pulls out the cost has to be absorbed by the host and if you rely on an even number of teams and then you are faced with an odd number not only does it effect the bottom line but it cheats the other teams out of competition. Gate, concessions, hospitality and officiating can all be effected. When 2 coaches pull out it compounds the problem. Who wants to ever schedule a team that develops a reputation for not appearing and waiting to the last minute to tell you? It’s frustrating as a host.

Tell that to some of these new young coaches!!

You were complaining that the folks at Beech didn’t have the correct weights for girls in their off season tournament. If they don’t care as much about girl wrestling as you suggested why don’t you host a girls tournament using the correct weights instead of complaining about what Beech is doing.

Why don’t you host a girls tournament? Just for girls.
