  1. K2 dominates the volleyball scene in Knoxville, but what has happened to everyone else? KVA's website was just updated with a note about the club being sold, Phoenix Rising's website is completely empty, and CBFO's website is just gone!
  2. Nice rundown! Farragut is the team I usually root for and three of the other teams are within a quarter mile of my house -- looking forward to getting to see a lot of good volleyball this season!
  3. K2 recently started a Knoxville middle school volleyball league. And CBFO is another inexpensive option for grades 3-HS that's been around for awhile. So things are at least better than they were for middle schoolers here in Knoxville.
  4. It's posted on her club site so I assume that's confirmed!
  5. Did you happen to coach at South Young in the 1980's? I was a student manager on the girls volleyball team in the late 80's and our coach was named Johnson too. I know it's a common name but thought it might be possible since how many Johnson's can there be also coaching in East Tennessee!
  6. We actually agree. The winking smily was meant to show I wasn't serious. My point was instead of arguing about which area is better than the others and getting offended when someone gives slight praise to another region of the state, let's all be happy things are on the upswing throughout Tennessee.
  7. From the article: "This area has grown tremendously. We're still trying to play catch-up to the Chattanooga and Nashville groups". Thanks for the dig at us though. I guess as long as your area is better than the rest of the state you'll be content. Maybe they should just shut K2 down now rather than anybody try to help improve volleyball in the rest of the state. We don't want Tennessee as a whole to get a reputation as a good volleyball state do we?
  8. My post was aimed at those denigrating "one hit wonders". Of course powerhouses are the best teams in the long run, with or without championships. Though sometimes it seems powerhouse fans get used to winning, expect it, and then take it for granted. These one hit wonders who have to work harder and hope for a bit of luck (with maybe an elite player or two to coming their way occasionally) seem to enjoy their run a lot more!
  9. While I don't have a dog in the specific school fights going on here I do have a general opinion on the topic at hand. I think in the end the powerhouse status only matters as a means of getting championships. These girls are not going out there playing to lose in a high round. They're playing and working for championships. Your school is a perennial power? That's great. Why? Because you'll have more chances to get that championship. They don't give rings for almost making it to the top each year. And I'm sure most players will tell you they'd rather win it all once and end up as a one hit wonder than lose in the finals four times.
