That was a bit more than disappointing. The that was almost embarrassing. Looked like some kids wanted no part of stopping the run and then wanted to jaw with the crowd. I’ve been around Unaka football for the last 20 years and that was one that wasn’t pretty all around. Hats off to Cloudland though, they came in and took care of business. That’s a tough bunch of kids that play the game the right way.

That wasn’t a very good Unaka squad back in 2011 either. Their best 4 or 5 kids that were returning all quit to just play basketball. This area and our conference would benefit from this to become a competitive game year in year out between 2 good teams. May even push one or the other to take next next step and be more competitive come playoff time. Which for Unaka just means being able to win one right now.

Definitely. This series hasn’t been competitive since 2011. There was a stretch from 05-11 that there was some competition in the series, but not even close since.

That second part is the one I’m afraid will be their Achilles heel Friday. They look good and move well but how they respond to a more physical brand of football that Cloudland always brings is what I’m afraid will get them.

I will say this line may not be the best Unaka has had but they look the part better than they have in the past. They have 3 that are 6’2”-6’3” that all move fairly well. Being big isn’t everything but it helps, especially in 1A ball.

That was an impressive 1st half. Unaka just looked bigger faster and stronger than NG. Good to see the kids experience that.

So what are the predictions on this one tomorrow night?

Wouldn’t call it laid it on them. They moved the ball well without their top WR. Defensively looked pretty good but held out their best LB. those two looked like they rolled up their ankles. now unaka did roll rye cove. Did basically anything they wanted.

As a football fan it was fun to see a team take a punch and come back and just take control with physicality. Hats off to your landers. That’s a tough group of young men.

The keys to this game will be can Unaka stop the run when Cloudland gets into the power I and can Unaka throw it enough to get low numbers in the box to run against. Either way I think this one may be closer than the experts predict and should be a fun one to watch tomorrow night.
