  1. My cousin has coached with both Wolfe and Curtis and he recommended Curtis for the Brighton job. Elvis has a friend that worked with Curtis and he recommended him too. The HFC at Arlington High recommended Curtis. At least has been an OC for a 6A program. What has Jacobs done? Cut grass, coach freshman, coach softball a be an assistant principal, how is that qualified?
  2. Actually, KnoxReb lives in Knoxville, TN. and his name is Andrew. Elvis the King lives in Jackson, TN. and and his name is Mark. They both know a little bit about football, being former D1 players. As far as he new coach at Brighton, he did tell his staff that he does not know much about football and that he would be focusing on softball and letting his staff run the football program. This according to multiple players and parents. The team was laughing at his being hired, they know he is not a good choice. In fact, several parents believe that Wolfe handpicked him because he knew it would be a failure and make him look good.
  3. Not a great hire, he went 0 and 8 again as the head freshman coach. The guy is already an assistant principal and head softball coach. According to multiple members of the staff, the first thing he said in their first coaches meeting was, "I don't know much about football, but I really wanted an opportunity to be the head coach here." Then, he explained that he was going to let the assistants "run everything" because he was busy with softball. I'd say Brighton has taken a step backwards with their football program. Did I mention that most of the parents and kids wanted an assistant already on staff? Plus, the kids were LAUGHING at the head coach during his first team meeting. They know.
  4. Is there any truth to rumor that Briarcrest and St. Benedict will be making changes at HFC at the seasons end? If so, who might they go after? Briarcrest has no shot at Phil Massey, but I'm sure they'll try anyway. I also heard the Fayette Academy coach is trying to leave, so that would be another open spot.
  5. The East vs West All Star game stays in East Tennessee because Toyota of East Tennessee pays a $75,000 sponsorship. Plus, companies like Russell and Gatorade in East Tennessee are also heavily involved. Then, you throw in all of the activities in Gatlinburg and the facilities they get to utilize at Carson Newman and Tusculum it is obvious why they play the game in East Tennessee. What would the kids do in Memphis? Participate in drive-by shootings and go get into a fight on Beale Street? Besides, Nike of Memphis doesn't even support football! They might get involved with a basketball tournament or all star game, but football is not a priority in Memphis/West Tennessee. East Tennessee loves its football!
  6. Just win one before you tell us how great the Whitehaven program is! How many years did I take "da haven" to get beyond the state quarterfinals? Real impressive! What a pathetic joke!
  7. Symrna, White Station, Maryville, East, Ridgeway and Melrose have all won the State Championship! Whitehaven has not won it! Whitehaven has more D1 players than anyone in the state but still hasn't won the title! In fact, Whitehaven had NEVER made it beyond the quarterfinals before last season! Whitehaven's coaches have failed!
  8. Whitehaven has the BEST athletes in the state year after year. Yet every year they have been beaten by lesser talented teams in the play-offs. Whitehaven gets gets beaten because of coaching. They have talent, but their coaching is lacking. Everyone knows it! Every coach in the state wished they had the kind of talent Whitehaven has, but leave it up to their staff to blow it!
  9. Not to excuse Coach Abels language, but the language on television, music, professional athletics and wrestling entertainment is much worse than this. Parents don't seem to mind what music their kids listen to or what they watch on television, but let a coach lose his composure and see what happens. Hold the chains for a varsity football game sometime, you might be surprised by what you hear.
  10. When I played sports, there was an unwritten rule that you never talked about what took place in the lockerroom. That was private information for you and your teammates. These days mommy and daddy might as well be in the lockerroom and if little Johnny is not getting his playing time or if someone raises their voice it becomes a witch hunt. Anyone want to guess as to whether or not these young men have ever heard language as bad as that when they are out with friends?
  11. I also get tired of the parents and fans that "know" their son or star player is a can't miss D-1 football player. Trust me, if a young man is in fact a REAL Division 1 Football player you will not need to tell anyone, the entire stadium knows that kid can play! A high school coach in Memphis once told me that an SEC recruiter described a SEC/Division 1 player like this, "if the kid really is a sure fire SEC player, everyone in the stadium knows if he is on the field, they know where he is on the field and they want to know why he is not on the field when the game is on the line."
  12. Officials that try to control the game or at least let everyone know who is in charge. Far too many officials think they are the show instead of the kids playing. If a game has good officials you hardly even notice they are out there, but if they want everyone to see them, it could look like National Flag Day out there!
  13. I'm not a fan of the current HFC at Munford, that guy has a serious ego problem and he spends most of his time arguing with officials or trying to fight the other teams coach! I am a Munford fan and a fan of the future HFC-Alsbrook, a former Munford player and assistant coach from our glory days. Hopefully, they will get rid of "Napoleon" and put a man in there that loves the program more than he loves himself! I'm afraid as long as Saunders is around we are going to struggle! Brighton may have too many offensive weapons for us to even slow them down, but if it can be done Alsbrook will find a way!
  14. Whitehaven should be ashamed with all of that talent and to never have won the state championship! Bring Whitehaven over to Maryville and we can show them how to develop talent and WIN STATE CHAMPIONSHIPS!!! Sounds like their coaching ain't so "great!"
  15. I think people are pretty quick to count out South Panola after one loss. Their defense is still very good, especially Gross #99 and Strong #1. Gross is one of the quickest linemen off the ball I have seen in some time and Strong is an outstanding athlete that makes plays all over the field. The SP RB/KR #12 as tremendous playmaking ability and is a threat to take the distance anytime he has the ball in his hands. South Panola might not be as dominant a team as they have been in the past, but they are an excellent football team. MUS has a very talented offensive line and a solid defense. Personally, I think they are a better team with #12 at QB, but the starter does give you bits and pieces of what he is capable of doing when he is focused and ready to play. MUS has several injured players at skill positions that leaves them without a real playmaker at WR and the secondary is missing a couple at DB that could really booster the defense and special teams. I have to pull for the team from Tennessee, but I expect a great game and big time high school football atmosphere in Batesville. GO OWLS!!!
