He interviewed for the Gallatin position and his demands were so unrealistic they laughed him out of the building.

Yet I’ve seen Gallatin up and close and in my eyes Gallatin should have ONLY lost 2 games this season!

Honestly, I'm not. Woods put his name in for alot of vacancies. Sometimes a program needs a new voice. I think it will also be a good chance for Woods to refine his approach if he has aspirations of getting a job outside of Metro

See I didn’t know that but that makes sense to me now.

The David Lipscomb "LIFERS" were put back in charge when Mrs. Candice McQueen was given the gavel by the folks at Hillsboro Church of Christ.  The problem arose when some of the lifers' kids and grandchildren either didn't get to play in football or did not play the position that they wanted.  What happened next is instead of handling everything internally like most other private institutions a few individuals began to talk in public.  The end result is that those individuals basically dropped a nuclear bomb on the David Lipscomb High School athletic program.  The sad part is that it punishes families and kids that actually had zero to do with breaking any rules.

Yepp and at the end of the day they don’t care as long as little Joe is on the field..Crazy you normally hear things like this happen in little country towns.

Agree with @Booger here, no one has been upset about those boarding schools until the last half-decade. Why would McCallie or Baylor volunteer to play a national schedule @FBfan26 ?

You ain't from around these parts or ain't ever visited on a Friday night in the Fall, so hear it from someone who has... those two schools care about one thing when it comes to football. Beating the crosstown rival... and for the past half-decade if you win that game, you're in a spot to win a gold ball.

When I meet grown adults in Chattanooga and get to talking, they ask "Where did you go to school?" I always reply UTC for undergrad and Vanderbilt for grad school. The response is always "No, did you go to Baylor or McCallie?" It's different around here, man. This quite literally is life.

I imagine they both care zero about playing schools like IMG Academy, Bishop Gorman, etc.  What would either  gain from that?

You know folks in today’s climate is going to find something to complain about. It started with public and private then it moved to open zone and county and now when the boarding schools start winning, it’s a problem. To be truthful about the national schedule/ playing ranked teams I was just thinking out loud. As a fan of Tennessee high school football it’s good seeing the state of Tennessee getting that exposure “No matter what team” and seeing how we match up.

    Wow….

  7. I think Lipscomb should have went the IMG route and started played a national schedule, then we wouldn’t be having this conversation. Cheating our not everyone was cheering for them when they played them top teams from other states. Quite frankly it made TN football look good. I wonder will McCallie pick up with LA left off and start scheduling them top 25 teams. People already don’t like them and want them gone because it’s a boarding school…

Yes something is missing here The great Milan Bulldogs losing a coach to Lexington

I’m a Middle TN guy and was just puzzled when I seen this post. No knock on Lexington because I actually enjoy the fans but that’s two totally different atmospheres in my mind.

Tony Brunetti won state, Eddie woods went to state, Stewart took east , Harris took east ,Thompson took Maplewood ,Broome took Maplewood , Blade took Hillsboro Clayton took Hillsboro and so did Aydelot no other county has had that many multiple schools .

Alexander can't fix that and he would leave in 2 years as well

I never thought about it like that…Wow

Chasing the talent. Antioch has a very good QB, maybe as good as anyone. Started as a 9th grader. Without him Antioch would have been winless. Talent alone is winning most games in Metro.

Can’t say that because remember his name was in the hat when Antioch first came open but the principal didn’t hire him.

I am not all in on Pearl Cohn this year. More likely to favor Upperman, AC, Betsy and Greenville;more than likely in that order. Based on AC 's new additions in the transfer portal, Compliments to CCHS.

I wouldn’t neither at the moment. We’re Senior and Sophomore heavy. This Sophomore class is just about big as the class that’s graduating this year. They working extra hard so we will see how it turns out.

If Upperman can replace the ol and dl they lost from this past season. They should have a really good team. Border brothers our going to make beating Macon Co hard. Pinion the qb for white county is a good ball player. Stone, Dekalb and Cumberland not really sure how much they lost. Should be fun to see how it all works out through out the season.

This is the year upperman needs to prove it.

Not sure Antioch is a better job than Overton? Thoughts?

From my point of view, Overton has better support from the administration and fans I’m guessing. Also, I don’t see Overton getting pass them Williamson County teams in the playoffs. Antioch has low support, but if broome can keep the momentum going things will get better. they’re also pushing all the intercity kids out that way. If he can lockdown Oliver and at least split up some of the kids that came really normally get he’s doing a job. Also, retaining them kids who stay in Davidson county that go to Laverne, Smyrna, riverdale etc

Right?! What is this guy talking about Mid-State private school being on another level? DII AAA runs through Chattanooga. And it has been this way for a minute.

Now, other areas of DII may run through the mid-state area. Some decent public school teams (see Pearl Cohn), but the Nashville elite private schools are getting taken to the shed by the two Chatt schools as of late.

I still will never understand why a Nashville school has yet to embrace the boarding school model like Baylor and McCallie do. At Baylor only 200 kids board of the 800ish high school students. Most of those are out of state/country and around 75% of them are athletes that have excelled in their respective sport.

It's not rocket science. Get kids through the doors that can play even if they aren't local. Nashville is a far more appealing draw than SE TN (Baylor and McCallie are great institutions, I'm speaking only on Chattanooga v. Nashville in terms of what the cities have to offer) and I think programs like MBA, Ensworth, BA, Lipscomb, etc. could dominate in most sports if that were to happen.

Sleep in a dorm or sleep in my own bed?? Most of these private school kids stay within 30 mins of the school. I hope the boarding school thing don't happen in middle. Yall can keep that in East Tn

Better than Antioch in every way. The total school day and athletics year in and out. Tell me why Antioch is better.  Last year football won 4 games.

Personal I think Antioch along with Gallatin high is a sleeping giant. They have plenty of kids who walk the hallways who played middle school ball who get washed in with the school and don't play. Its a fact that the Antioch area has way more athletes. A lot of the inner city kids have moved back that way. Now I think Overton might be funded better and have way  more support overall. Thats just my 2cents
