  1. First time in 10 years no Rutherford Co team. Ironically, this is the first year of RPL play as well. State tournament looks a lot different for AAA. Interesting to see of this trend continues.
  2. Any reports from Franklin vs Indy or Bearden vs Hardin Valley - both were scheduled to be played on Thursday
  3. Not on the exact topic of thread but related: http://www.lohud.com/story/sports/high-school/2015/09/11/guest-column-changing-dynamics-high-school-sports/72017218/
  4. I hope that all coaches posting on the thread are members of the THSSCA, the voice of soccer coaches in the state. Three organizations were present in this discussion: TSSAA, TSSA, and THSSCA.
  5. Good discussion - broadening my understanding from different points of view. This has to be one of the most civil discussions on a controversial topic that Coacht has ever hosted.
  6. You are correct on many fronts in my opinion. Coaches would be effected. I would argue that coaches should not be the main stake holder to consider in debating the issue. Your other hypothetical scenarios are unrealistic because those sports value the high school playing experience. The powers that control the highest levels of soccer in the US do not. This is a reaction brought about by a select few. The question is would the sport benefit if those best players left? If you want to go down the hypothetical scenario line of thinking. What if the same thing was occurring in football? What if the best players in football left to play in another league of all stars? Would it be beneficial to discuss alternatives to that scenario or just "let them go play travel (soccer) and not high school"?
  7. Don't be surprised by reactions. High school coaches are often at odds with select programs and rarely work in unison with them to meet the needs of the players (and vice versa). Additionally, when select programs make statements that group all high school coaches into one category as "inferior" to select coaches feelings get hurt. Each program has it's own challenges and offers different opportunities for elite players. We really haev to find a way to work together for the betterment of our sport on both levels or one will get left behind. I hope that the day of the elite players being forced to choose between high school and club is not approaching however I am not too optimistic with the direction we seem to be moving. College coaches scout men's soccer in the spring because they are not in season. College coaches rarely attend high school matches in the fall because they are in season. If girls move to spring perhaps more college exposure will follow then again, showcase tournaments offer the best bang for the buck when it comes to seeing a large number of players at one time.
  8. Most reasons stated can be dealt with. When girls play at home, boys play away game. It would take just a little bit of creativity to resolve most of these stated issues. The biggest issue that I can see is practice facilities. Might have to use local facilities off campus. We have Fridays to use in the spring as an additional day to host games (for refereeing scheduling issues). Will there be issues with the field conditions, yes there always is. Solution - over seed. Most football fields in the fall are dirt by mid season. Asking the best girls' players to play both high school and elite level select ball, which they will do because they love representing their high school, is insane. We have four players that practice twice a week after high school practice and practice on weekends plus add additional games on the designated weekends. Injuries will accumulate as I know they already have for some. Coaching a team dealing with these issues is ridiculious. Resting girls that come back exhausted from extra play requires bending rules for the exceptional player - never a good thing for team chemistry. When thinking about the sport's best interest, I don't see how this can't be a serious option to consider. We don't want our best players to leave for ECNL, Regional premiere league, etc. That would reduce the talent pool in the high school season significantly. While the non ECNL calibur players need to be considered as well, the significance of the high school sport would be greatly diminished without the best girls playing. I don't have all the answers on this however I hope that we make decisions that are in the best interests of the players and the sport - not the coaches.

  11. Brentwood 1, Arlington 1. Halftime
  12. Don't understand the two times Oakland elected to go for fourth down conversions in the first half when they could have kicked field goals. One was a 4th and 11. One attempt would've been inside 30, the other inside the 20 with the wind at their back. Kicking game that bad or poor gamble on coaches? Make one of two and you tie, make both you win.
  13. Any score from Bearden vs. Hardin Valley? Siegel 6 Franklin Co 0 Blackman 1 Oakland 0
