  1. I am not from Grundy County but I attended the Grundy game at Community on Thursday and I was curious when I read this to see what had happened. That’s a situation no one wants to ever see but the great news is according to the fans that he has done great and everything is good. Sports injuries are scary. I don’t have children playing anymore I just enjoy going to watch local teams play and every time I see a young person injured in a way that could keep them away from the sport for a while it’s tough. These kids out so much into this and for some may be their only outlet from real world stuff. I did hear that Grundy was witness to another incident. They were hosting Forrest and a Forrest kid was injured and the head coach of the girls team didn’t take the correct procedures to handle the injury and had to be let go. Do all schools not have trainers now? I’m sorry for my lack of knowledge if they don’t I just assumed they did now. I was at the Forrest vs Cannon game when I heard this from a Forrest fan. I think maybe trainers should be a must kinda like SRO officers but I am sure it comes down to money and some can’t afford it so I get it. It sure does put a lot of strain on the coach if you don’t have one.
  2. Able to get out to Cascade last night for a very good high school game. Grundy County played tough all night and Cascade pulled out the win to clinch the 1 seed. 5 and 12 for Cascade are solid high school players. Very fun to watch you can tell they have played together for a while. Was able to peek in on Community and Forrest online some. Community pretty much handled them from start to finish. 1 for Community may be the best pure shooter I have seen in a long time. A friend of mine said he and his brother who I believe is a freshmen combined for 44 last night. Community is the 2 seed with Forest 3 and Grundy 4. Should be a fun district tourney for sure on the boys side. The girls is pretty one sided. Good luck to all teams and so thankful we have made it this far with no stoppages. The fans are very thankful as I am sure the players are.
  3. I agree this district is very weak. I thought Forrest would be better and at least competitive but this will probably be Community district for the next 4 years and region isn't much tougher it looks like. Should have a great shot at state tournament every year for the next 4.
  4. Big win for Forrest sweeping Grundy for sure. I wouldn't say the Cascade win was easy. Community had a bad quarter of offense and rest of game was pretty even. The atmosphere was awesome. There were times I couldn't hear my grandson sitting right beside me but I am pretty old though. Nice having those 2 schools back in the same district you could feel the intensity in the stands. Hoping to get over to see Forrest and Community tonight but it's pretty cold out may have to be an online hoops night. Cascade can wrap up the 1 seed with a win tonight as can Community the 2 seed with a win. Not sure it matters much in a 4 team district though. Not really a fan of passing teams along to the region like that. Seems you could get some pretty bad teams advancing kinda like football. Looking forward to the district tourney ..do they know where it will be or is it satellite?
  5. I was there last night. You could tell that the back to back district game was a factor. Community looked fatigued and missed a ton of easy shots. Had an 8 point lead twice and just couldn’t finish. Grundy made some amazing shots and got some stops in the 4th quarter when they needed it. Having seen all 4 teams I would say Cascade has the edge for the 1 seed, Community 2 with Grundy a very close 3 and then Forrest who I think on any night could beat anyone. Those 4 teams are a lot closer than expected. I was amazed Community would be this competitive with all the talent they graduated over the last 2 years. Their freshman point guard is going to be really good in the future. Should be a fun district tourney. Any word where it is being played and the region tourney?
  6. Let's just hope we get to finish this basketball season. Any word on where the district and region tourneys will be?
  7. Watched it online last night a little too cold to get out for me. Has any team had as many upsets as Community has over the past several years? They are the one team I would not want to play if I was a top tier team. This was already a great rivalry for this area but now being in same district may end up being one of the best around. Cascade is a very very good basketball team and no doubt will be a team that has a great shot at making it deep in the tourney. Based on past history I wouldn't want to be in the same bracket with Community.
  8. Finally able to get out and see some basketball with my son last night. Caught the Cascade and Forrest game. Both teams had some good looking athletes. Cascade has some good depth and play hard. I think Cascade's success will depend on how the game is called. If they are allowed to be physical they will be hard to beat. Forrest did a good job of attacking and officials were calling the fouls. If Forrest can get a little more depth developed they will be a tough squad. I'm not a fan of the 4 team district. Seems like if your going to have 4 classes that geography should go out the window and you should have a minimum of 5/6 teams to me. Having Grundy in this district is tough on Grundy I feel for them. Every road game is a pretty good drive. Call me old fashioned but I miss the old district foes of a decade or so ago. No way we can go back to those days because of classifications but those were some really good battles and the tourney was always good. This district I think will struggle having to match with Metro in the region and 2 of the best teams in the state in that district but you never know basketball is a funny game sometimes.
  9. High school is starting to mirror college. Kids aren't happy so they just move to the next school. I am sure there are times where a move and change is good for all parties but in most cases it's not. Maybe high school will adopt the transfer portal next! Haha
  10. So I am curious as to what solution the shot clock is to what problem? The game is not slowing down in Tennessee it is speeding up. Games are in the 60s and 70's. Shots are being taken well under 30 seconds. Is a shot clock going to create better fundamentals? What positive would a shot clock bring to Tennessee high school basketball where less than 1% of all participants will play college basketball?
  11. I will respectfully disagree. This should already be going on. Having a 30 second clock is not going to improve this. You have 32 minutes to execute your game plan. Good teams do and bad teams do not. The only time the shot clock would come into play is in the 4th quarter. So why add something that will not affect the outcome but to a handful of games?
  12. I think even in 5 years it's a bad idea. This won't help the game in any way except slow it down, create more cost and add controversy in games to help the less than 1% of players that may play on the next level. There is already a product for those kids to go play with a shot clock. To me there is not another valid reason to have one for high school games.
  13. The cost for implementing and running the shot clock will keep it out of Tennessee. Officiating gets a lot of complaints as is. Imagine important games coming down to a shot clock issue. I think your comparing apples and oranges when you talk about the 3 point line vs a shot clock. Things like the 3 point line or widening the lane was not a cost issue nor did you have to do anything except teach officials to hold their hands up on made 3. Guards were already shooting from that distance. Now it just counts a point more. Training someone local to run a shot clock, teaching officials the rules of the shot clock plus cost makes no sense especially when it won’t have an affect on the game except in a negative way. Are they going to require the lights around the back board? Adding cost to schools especially the smaller schools after a pandemic limited capacity season where funds for running a season may be limited is not a wise idea. AAU has it for those kids who want to play next level. I agree 99 percent of these kids play other sport’s and to steal a slogan will be going pro in something else other than sports. A shot clock would just create a mess. Schools I’m sure have felt the same economic impact from trying to fundraise and work off of limited gate while still paying officials and workers their same rates.
  14. There is nothing positive about having a shot clock in high school basketball. Use it in the summer AAU and Elite camp stuff for guys who are gonna play next level basketball. For most of Tennessee and rural schools this does nothing but add another expense to the regular season. Some places have a hard enough time getting clock and score keepers. Imagine trying to train someone to know when to reset the clock and officials to monitor correctly. How many game stoppages would you have to discuss shot clock resets. It has it's place but not in high school games in Tennessee.

    District 8-A

I was finally able to get out and see some baseball. I like Eagleville's team. Talk among the fans there was they have been missing some of their top pitchers because of some small injuries. From what I saw if those guys are pretty good I would pick Eagleville to win the district. I haven't seen Huntland, Cascade or Cornersville though so I may be way off. Was just thankful baseball was back and these kids are getting to play. Was even able to catch some softball games. Spring sports are just good for everyone especially us older fans. Gives us something to look forward to.
  16. I would as well. Community High School web page has a ton of athletic info from the past. It’s one of the better ones I have seen on the high school level. Looking back if these are correct none of the teams in the early 90’s even made a region final. Looks like there was sectional in 89 and 98. Making the final 16 is pretty great accomplishment. Community has made the sectional game 4 times in the last 8 years. I think for sure the top 2 teams are correct and the others could be debated I guess. Pretty cool website to look at.
  17. I would agree with JRM. The last 4 sub state teams at Community have been really good teams. If I remember right the 17 team went on the toad and upset a top 5 team then beat MTCS who was ranked in top 5 in semi finals.
  18. I remember that now. It was in that old small gym that they played in. A lot of school including Forrest had one of those gyms. Another impressive thing about the program is, and I may be wrong on this , but since the 89 team to now Community I believe has only had 3 head coaches over those 30 plus years. That pretty impressive. Says a lot about the stability of the administration and the community supporting their team. And in my opinion 3 pretty good coaches at that.
  19. So hard to compare from decade to decade in any sport but doing what those teams did and do it in AA as one of the smallest in the state is impressive. When you finish in the Elite 8 hard to argue another team was better. The three point line has changed the game a lot. I do remember when my son played during those days playing Community was tough in the late 80’s and I can’t remember details but they made a sectional but couldn’t play at home for some reason. Not sure they made many sectional games after that in the 90’s. When I go to games I always like to check the banners in the gym. That’s usually a true measure of a program. Been a couple years but can’t remember many banners for Community in the early 90’s but I may be wrong. I know they have hung several over the last decade in boys and in girls. It’s truly a basketball program. For myself I think the last 2 teams are combined the best so far they have had. 2 sectionals, back to back region and district titles in Class AA and a state tourney appearance to go along with a combined 55-10 record is pretty impressive.
  20. A great season for sure! I always enjoy watching Community boys team play every year. They are the team every year no one wants to play in this area during tournament time. I was able to watch the game online Thursday and for sure was a great game between two very equal teams. I thought the officiating was poor on both sides. Hope coach stays at Community because for us old timers they are fun to watch play. It's old school basketball and not a lot of running up and down the floor shooting bad shots. Community basketball in our little area for sure would be a great place to play basketball. Fan support is amazing as well. The gym in Unionville during regular conditions is usually always full for games and the games I have been to the student section is very involved.
  21. No doubt a very talented East team and for sure hurt if they lost guys to transfer. Those players and coaches are all a class act. They play the game the right way. I noticed this morning that East and Pearl will be in region with Community next year. This may end up being a nice little region to watch every year. For sure East and Pearl are the Duke and North Carolina of the region. Community will always be right there and you add Cascade that almost won at Clay County last night and. Grundy team that was ranked most the year.
  22. Very well said! I watched the game on NFHS as it was sold out. The Community kids play for sure an old school style and that’s a reflection of coaching. They read back cuts, their ball movement on offense is fun to watch and they actually rebound and defend as a team. I believe Coach Davis has 4 sectional appearances in his 9 years there and in 2 different classifications is pretty impressive for a school their size. Pretty sure he also has a state tournament appearance in baseball as well at Community. Even though I am from Marshall County I am happy for the people of Unionville. They are always gracious when we have played there and have never seen bad sportsmanship from them. Hope Coach Davis is there for a while because us old basketball fans love watching his teams play. His teams are always competitive come tournament time. Wouldn’t be surprised if some school comes in to try and lure him away. Hats off to East Nashville as well! Those kids had to wait a long time to get to even play basketball and what they have gone through has to be tough watching surrounding counties play a full season. The East kids are very talented and their 3 guards are as good as I have seen in a while. You can guarantee that they will be a state contender next year!

    12-AA

I was able to see Community last night. I agree what an outstanding coaching job. 4 new starters and the freshman that comes off the bench is going to be a very good player. The one thing I love about Community is they play hard and play as a team. It’s like a throwback style. I have never seen one of their players act selfishly in the games I have seen. Also would like to say Stewart County played an outstanding game last night. Those young men play hard and play the game the right way. It is what a high school game should look like in tournament time. Those players and parents should be very proud! Playing Community during tournament time since he has been there has always been a tough draw if you go back and look at their tournament history. Congrats to Magnet and Marshall as well! Forrest also gave Creek Wood a run for their money. Just very thankful all these teams are getting a chance to finish their season.
  24. I agree I think this is pretty even. With satellite games being higher seed for sure is huge advantage. 12AA has some solid teams. I have watched some online. Nolensville look very talented and Marshall has improved greatly and had an outstanding season. I think Murfreesboro Magnet can compete with anyone as well as Giles. Very impressed with the job done at Community with all the players they have lost from last years team. They have I think 7 or 8 losses but I believe each one is only by a point or 2. I have enjoyed watching this district and region and will miss these matchups next season. Good luck to all teams. Thankful we had a season!
  25. I think Eagleville could possibly give them a run but since everything is satellite I would say Cascade has a great chance to win the district this time. Congrats to them on a great season it’s been a while since Cascade has been this competitive. Will miss this district being together for sure.
