  1. I was at the game and it was by far the best game I have seen all year and maybe the best in a decade. Hard fought both ways. My Chargers played well but just came up a little short. I was very impressed with the Dyersburg defensive front 7 and the closing speed on that side of the ball. The Dyersburg backup QB played well and the explosive plays won the game. I was at the same end of the field the two running plays were at the end of the half. I was shocked the Covington RB did not get in the end zone on the last play but he definitely did not get in. I saw the hit at the goal line and it was a great defensive play to stop that run. I am of the belief of the old saying that defense travels so I think Dyersburg has a chance to go to East Nashville and win. Good Luck Dyersburg.
  2. Munford is very different than in years past as they have an athletic QB that has good size. They do throw the ball some but are most certainly a running team. The RB is small but has good speed. They compliment each other very well. The defense has been decent against the run most of the year but struggles in pass defense at times when they can't pressure the opposing QB. Against Portland in the first half the Munford QB danced around a lot waiting for blocking to clear lanes before running. In the 2nd half he was way more decisive running the ball leading to them taking a 21-7 lead late in the 3Q. Portland did a good job staying ahead of the chains more of the game getting 3 to 4 yards per run leading to 3rd and 3 or less a lot during the game. But, Portland fought back to take the lead late in the game 27-21 with again solid running attack and converting some key 3rd down passes. They just left too much time on the clock and Munford put a drive together with less than 3 minutes left and was able to take the win with a solid drive. I have not seen Henry County play this year but looking at there opponents from the year and comparing scores I would give the edge to HC in this one. I predict a 10 to 14 point win for HC. I hope Munford wins but that is the way I see it shaking out.
  3. Brighton has two really good skill position players. That would be the QB and RB. Sharpe is there best player. He is extremely fast. He is D1 material from what I have seen. There defense is struggling and they give up a lot of rushing yards and points against average to above average teams. They have played a weak schedule. The region they are in has only two teams that are decent in Munford (Region Champs) and Memphis Central (2nd in region) both ranked in the top 10 in the state. Brighton lost big to both of them.
  4. I was not able to go to the game tonight but had to track the score on ScoreStream. Appeared to be close for about a quarter and a half. Can anyone that was there explain how Covington pulled away? Turnovers, big plays on offense, etc....

I would expect Dyersburg to get there. Very solid all the way around. If Lexington hits they are dangerous. Pitching may give lesser teams an opportunity to knock them off. I have seen Covington and Ripley and neither should be a huge threat but Ripley does have some hitters and could be dangerous if you let them hang around. Since South Gibson lost to Milan in there District Tournament over the weekend I would suspect Milan is playing with a lot of confidence. I have seen all of these teams play this year. Clearly Dyersburg is the favorite in West TN unless they have a bad game and someone knocks them off. Lexington would be my 2nd pick to get there because they are still talented even though there pitching is not dominant.
  8. So that is not true from this post I am seeing from TSSAA.com?
  9. I have heard rumors that Region 7 District 13AAA is going to change starting in 2017. What I am hearing is that Munford and Brighton are moving out of this district into another district with teams from the Memphis area. If that is so not sure where Dyer Co and Hardin Co will land. Does anyone have any information on this?
  10. I am trying to find out if this region will remain as it is now starting 2017. I have heard rumors that Brighton and Munford will move to another district in softball starting in 2017. Not sure where Dyer Co or Hardin Co will land if that is true. Does anyone know?
  11. As a Covington fan and someone who was at the Covington - maplewood game the defensive line for maplewood shot the gaps in the second half and stopped the Covington run game. #6 on maplewood's defense stopped two touchdowns Covington would have had in the first half. While #20 is a good back and deserves credit for what he did the defense won the game for maplewood. Covington's defense has given up points all year and for them to only give up 21 to maplewood was great for them. One of the touchdowns for maplewood was on an interception return when the game was pretty much decided so the defense only gave up 21. One question I did have for anyone out there. Maplewood's band played while Covington was on offense the entire game. We had several false start penalties on the end of the field they were on and it cost us a touchdown before the half. I thought that was illegal to play during the other team offensive set. Is that not the case?
  12. Very interesting first half. Covington looked good with the exception of the false start penalties on the drive e just before the half. Not scoring there changed the complextion of the game. Maplewood has good size and speed on the d-line and was able to stop the charger run in the second half. #20 of maplewood impressed me along with #6 on defense. He saved three touchdowns tonight that Covington would have had. Not sure maplewood has enough to knock off Greenville. Chargers had a great season. They have most of starters back next season so they should be.strong again next season.
