  1. I completely agree that Tennessee should have a "masters" tournament en route or in preparation for the high school nationals in Virginia Beach in march. As for the topic at hand I am confused why there is two threads on the same issue...hopefully instead of a debate we would have a celebration of the great wrestling talent that has been born and bred in Tennessee and performed admirably on the mat in high school as well as college. With that being said, there are many deserving candidates that warrant discussion. I think this AND the other thread list some amazing candidates. I am sure there are many more that should also be considered. Great thread topic to start the season....IMHO the best should be the ones who proved themselves on a national stage or a stage that may be considered superior to our high school state tournament so they're not defined by the 2nd or 3rd week in February. Guys like Patton, Crane, Kelsey, Smith, Allen and Boone deserve consideration as well as those who crossed over into other sports and may not have wrestled in college...Great conversation and obviously tons of respect for those who did win a title and made the most of that moment.
  2. Did not see that one... http://www.coacht.co...e.cfm?id=450367 http://www.theleafch...PORTS/304110042 http://www.theleafch...PORTS/304110043
  3. I am not sure if this helps but according to this article he is only on a leave for 18 months. depending on when that started, he may not be back or back for long. http://www.chattanoogan.com/2012/7/19/230597/Jacky-Blosser-New-Head-Wrestling-Coach.aspx Holker, a 1st Lieutenant in the U.S. Army at Fort Campbell (Ky.), is on educational leave for the next 18 months as he is taking classes at nearby Austin Peay University while coaching at Clarksville HS. He was a three-time state high school champion and won a national high school title in 1998 before his collegiate All-American career. He placed seventh at BYU (1999) and first (2001) and seventh (2002) at Iowa State, followed by a U.S. Armed Forces championship in 2006.
  4. Saw this one as well. I lost my dad while out here working, looking back wish I had done something similar. Best to him and it sounds like Clarksville will get a great coach. Have missed your posts Tex..almost always entertaining. http://blogs.tennessean.com/high-school-sports/2013/04/03/clarksville-again-seeks-wrestling-coach/ Jacky Blosser has resigned as wrestling coach at Clarksville, ending a tenure that began last July. “While I enjoy wrestling, I never want it to be the focal point of my life,†said Blosser, a Chattanooga area native. “I want it to be something I do to help make others better, that’s enjoyable but doesn’t detract from my family. “I couldn’t do the one thing I moved back to Tennessee to do, which was to be closer to my family. My mom’s 74. I’ve got to get closer, got to close that gap.†Blosser, who replaced Jeff Jordan following Jordan’s retirement, had previously coached at Morristown West but had worked in southern California as an engineer before returning to the area. At Hixson, Blosser went 96-9 and placed third in the 1989 and ’90 state tournaments. He then earned all-American honors at the junior college and NAIA levels. Clarksville had three Division I medalists this season — 170-pound runner-up Tyler Crane, 182-pound fourth-place finisher Kiel Russell and 285-pound champion Bruno Reagan, all Tennessean first-team all-Midstate selections. Russell and Reagan both return next year. “Talking to those kids was probably the hardest thing I’ve done,†Blosser said. “I think the world of them. But the kids were great. We’ve got a great group of kids coming back. Clarksville has a good tradition, a strong fan base. There’s a really good chance a great coach will come in here and want to be a part of this great program.â€
  5. Too funny cupcake!!! Sounds good look for you there. I will be the guy with a laptop trying to do some work while watching my boys watching girls while they tell me they are actually watching the matches!
  6. Thank you for providing an example to everyone that wasn't at the tourney, the kind of behavior some adults showed. So if you post your video, maybe someone posts one that shows the dad on the mat and the audio records him verbally assaulting (the legal term for threatening someone) that minor and then the boy's parents press charges against him....This situation occurred because there was tired officials, a kid stalling, another kid attacking ( we all thought the point was for stalling not unsportsman-like conduct) and no security. It was the second to last match of the long, poorly run, tournament. I'm not familiar with either program but if there is a history between the two then maybe your posts make some sense (from a whinning stand point mentioned in an earlier post)but either way it has no place on this thread and your video post threats should be taken seriously by the moderator. I agree with bear, teams should look to another event next year.
  7. Do I smell a royal rumble brewing? Soms, scottmike, cupcake, tex23 and anyone else want in? maybe give the proceeds to charity? I always like reading the posts. Tex always has either really dead on points about wrestling as can cupcake or cruel shots on soms. Scottmike seems to get on this time of season and somehow wills his team to championships, which is funny...Soms....still working on the dictionary to understand all of them, but dang that guy has some serious passion for the sport..ever seen the times he spends on here. wow wished I had a job that allows me to do that! lol sure would love to meet you all and see ya'll do this in person!
  8. My kids came up from the memphis to wrestle in the middle school portion of the event and then we went with some friends to watch their kids wrestle in the high school portion saturday afternoon. The reason no results were posted were no one was sure if the ones given were accurate. Like other posts mentioned the tournament was so poor in staffing and conditions that no one was sure from one moment to the next who was wrestling and if they were keeping count. Kids wrestled the same kids twice in a row as well as no breaks for the refs made for a ton of mistakes throughout the day. I've never seen parents go after refs like I did yesterday. No security was there and with the limited seating it made it very tough to keep tempers calm. As for the finals matches, I saw parents down on the mat filming and at one point (maybe the match the other fellow posted on) one parent yelled and threatened his kids opponent twice, and was standing on the mat. It was apparent his kid was stalling to avoid a tech fall. I was more outraged that in light of recent events that a parent would engage in this horrible behavior and then more disappointed that nothing was done to remove the parent from the building and take him to jail. He waited by the exit as the boy left with his family and coaches. We watched in shock at this event. So the results were that father ryan won by a good margin and the rest is a crap shoot. No awards ceremony and most teams did not take take their trophies as we saw it. Hope that helps some of you with why there are not any results. I felt bad for the refs and the kids.
  9. So is Cleveland wrestling Christian Brothers, Baylor, Father Ryan, McCallie or MBA this year? It would be great to see them all compete against each other. I know they have someof those teams go to their dual tourney but wasn't sure if cleveland ever wrestles the better private schools. Either way it will be fun to see if they live up to all of this hype. Gotta love the preseason trash talking...
  10. when did rampage wrestle in Tn? obviously only a select few of TN wrestlers can say they challenged a UFC great or more specifically, a California wrestler, so who in this state has ever beat the best of the best when it mattered as an adult?
  11. Wow! Just read this article and the other one. Sounds like a great addition for Clarksville and Tn wrestling. Since it mentioned that Holker is in the Army (usually transfers to other posts) and Blosser is from chattanooga and wrestled out west as is Holker (Utah) is from there, I'm curious to see if this is a temporary fix or if this was considered a "long-term" hire. The dynamic of this relationship will be a factor as well. (seems the titles may be reversed given wrestling accolades) I'd say if it is a good relationship and the community is good to them, it could be great. Otherwise, they could lose them both and we will read about another coach in clarksville in a year or so. Best of luck, hope it works out since the sport and I assume their families could benefit from it.
  12. truthfully without knowing the ref personally its only speculation, but there were some no calls on takedowns and some really fast 3pt near falls awarded and the parents around me kept pointing out that the refs were from the same town as the kid who received the favorable calls. Since we were on the private school side and it was mostly public school refs, I think it was a pretty honest assessment. one ref awarded 3 near fall when there was less than 3 seconds left in the period when the kid turned him. Made the difference in the match as the kid, now down 5 instead of 2 had to change the strategy for the 3rd. BTW you'd been proud of bear cats son, he looked great out there against a tough kid.
  13. Big Tex, I was hoping you would come out and play. No I am saying, for example, that a region 6 ref should not be officiating a match between a region 6 kid and a region 3 kid. Get a ref from region 8, 4, 2,1..hopefully you get the point. Obviously this would prevent the appearance of any favoritism.
  14. I was so impressed with how Ryan wrestled! Great job. I came pulling for Brothers but left a fan of the Father Ryan program.
  15. really mature smoke sniffer. If I didnt know better, I'd say you were on here taking up for your brother. Its just part of a tough but pretty well paying job. Not everyone is going to like the officiating. However, some of the calls and assigned officials was very questionable. hopefully there will be a higher level of standards or protocol when it comes to who is officiating state tournament matches and the relationships between refs, coaches and parents. I think that is all most of the people on here are saying.
