  1. No. Adults who offer that kind of money to untested kids are really stupid, though. Let's not forget a certain QB who was the #2 dual threat QB in the country and was pegged to be a better version of Josh Dobbs. Imagine if NIL had been a thing a few years ago and they had given that guy a contract worth $8 million. Just saying
  2. Not to the extent that it's happening now because it's happening in the open now. It's different when a kid is openly getting contracts and it's known and talked about in the media the way it is now. Donors used to help athletes get nicer apartments or buy them and/or their parents cars. There's a big difference between that and getting contracts that are worth more than the coach's salary. You honestly think that won't result in a massive breakdown in discipline and a bad product on the field? Money is power.
  3. For one, do you think a 19-year-old player is going to listen to a coach when he is making more than him just to act in some commercial? There are a lot of potential problems with the way things are heading.
  4. Coach Cortez from Lenoir City joined WB'S staff to be the defensive coordinator for the Govs.
  5. Meadows gave us the best uniforms WB has ever had and it isn't even close.
  6. My thoughts after listening to Reeves' intro speech and having time to think on it: #1- I really like his energy and charisma. He had me fired up and anyone who knows me knows that life has been very difficult for me for the past year and they know exactly why. #2 - I liked his analysis of West Ridge and how they were disciplined and professional in everything they did. I like that Reeves can recognize the importance of discipline and being purposeful in everything from getting off the bus to warming up. It will be interesting to see if he can actually make a positive impact in that area. #3- I like what he said about weight training. It will be interesting to see what his staff can do in the weight room. But there was one thing he said that really troubled me. He said that the Xs and Os don't matter in football. That could be a big problem.
  7. I'm impressed by his charisma and enthusiasm. I was getting pumped up just listening to him talk. If nothing else, he'll do a great job of getting kids fired up before games. And I think that can go a long way towards getting better results on Friday night.
  8. I just hope whoever it is brings a corny gimmick like a trashcan or a turnover chain with them. That would be so WB to do something to embarrass ourselves even more when we are already the laughing stock of 6A football in East Tennessee.
  9. I want to address the myth that Meadows just had so much more talent because that is one of the myths that allows the program to continue wallowing in excuses. I remember when Meadows was the coach. The culture was better. The players, coaches, and fans actually expected the Govs to beat Maryville and they almost pulled that off. It was pretty simple. The coaches had a good strength program in place and their teams played with physicality. Those teams also had a good kicking game and they always had good defenses that were aggressive and liked to hit. Those teams were everything that Shad's teams weren't. Shad's teams were soft and undisciplined and they never had a defense anywhere close to being decent. Did Meadows have a more complete team talent wise in 2007 than any team Shadowens ever had? Sure, but the talent disparity wasn't nearly as great as people think it was. In 2019 and 2020, WB was a piece or two away from having pretty talented teams across the board but the best we could muster was 4-6 both years. I'll take a 9-3 ceiling over a 4-6 ceiling every single time. Meadows proved it could be done. He showed that WB can have a solid football program with a good weight program, a physical mindset, a good kicking game/special teams, and a stingy defense. Those are all pretty basic things that a competent coaching staff should be able to get out of a school with 1,900 students year to year even if a few Jimmies and Joes consistently defect to schools with jumbotrons. Meadows did it. There are no excuses. If the next coach is decent, he should be able to do it too. I don't care what the record is next year, but I expect the team to be able to tackle.
  10. After having time to read through this whole thread it blows my mind how black and white people's thinking is. Before the season, a lot of people - myself included - thought WB could have a winning season in 2021. Now a lot of people will just say they thought that because the schedule was easy, but you don't predict a winning season for a team like WB unless you feel like the program is trending upward. And at the time it seemed that way because WB was coming off back to back 4-win seasons. That may not seem like a big deal but it was for WB because the Govs hadn't won more than 3 games in a season in over a decade (although WB technically won 4 games in 2011 but had to vacate the Central win). So a lot of people had high expectations for the Govs, but things fell flat for one reason or another. I'll admit that I haven't really been in the loop with what's going on with WB football for the past year and most of you know why. Frankly, my mind has been other places. Having said that, I had been hearing rumors for well over a year that Shad was looking to retire and they were actively grooming Bosco to take over when Shad retired. Obviously, that plan was (almost certainly) scrapped when Bosco took the Eagleton job. I mean maybe his ties to the program could lure him back, but I doubt it. It just seems like he'd have an easier time winning games at Eagleton than he would at WB. Plus I wasn't super crazy about his offenses at WB anyway. But back to my original point, this thread has been full of negativity, but the recent past of WB's football program hasn't been all negative. Sure, 2021 was a really disappointing year, but it is nonsense to compare WB to Heritage and act like the program is completely dead. I also don't get all the fatalistic comments about a lack of interest from coaches. I remember people saying similar things before Ridge and Shadowens were hired. Tom Kreager even said there was no way Shadowens would touch the WB job. No, there's nothing new. People still say the same things they've always said. I don't know who WB is going to hire and if that person will succeed, but I figure you can only go up after getting destroyed by teams like Karns in 2021.
  11. Good points, Barney. I think Bradley Central is a good example of the type of program WB could realistically be if they got their stuff together. If you look at Bradley Central, that program was dead in the water a little over a decade or so ago. WB dropped 60+ on them at their place when Meadows was coaching.
  12. It wasn't too tough for Scott Meadows back when I was in school there.
  13. My brain tells me a very sloppy WB team that likes to turn the ball over doesn't have a chance on a wet field against a more or less equal opponent.
  14. What happened to wearing school colors? Now it's stupid themes every week.
