  1. Mr. Chandler, These message boards can be awful hard on a parent. As the parent of a former MLK wrestler (Ken Jenkins Class of 2004) I understand the dedication it takes for a student-athlete to be successful on the mat and in the classroom. Congratulations to your son for his accomplishments so far. Good luck at state. Darryl Jenkins P.S. If TSSAA rules allow it and your son would like to pick up some pointers in the off season I'm sure Ken would be happy to work out with him some when he's home from Knoxville and off crutches. Coach Bass has Ken's and our numbers.
  2. You might contact Coach Bass at M.L. King. The wrestlers @ MLK have worked the concessions at Vandy games for years. (MLK has a wrestling room) You could also contact Coach Simpson over at MBA I'm sure there's some "Old Vanderbilt Money" a little further up West End.(MBA has a REALLY NICE wrestling room) Both schools are within a mile or so of Vandy's campus. I don't know for sure but I think TSSAA may have rules that limit your contact with high school wrestlers. Good Luck
  3. Twittycanes, My son is doing well; He is going to The Air Force Academy, but he won't start back until June of 2005 due to an injury(Long story), so he has a year off to think about things. I don't know if he will wrestle at the academy. He said he wants to decide once he gets back out there. I have kept up with your boy's football this year ,he had an outstanding year has he picked a school yet?
  4. Davis Overton Beard MLK
  5. Nance I feel obligated to respond back to your response 1. At what level should TSSAA be obligated to respond? After all wrong is wrong regardless of when a bad call is made. 2. Things evening themselves out have nothing to do with good or bad judgement I was just pointing out that this is just how things are. 3. On the scholarship issue I will only say Bond had better be cracking the books or have a trust fund even if the TSSAA gives Bond first place; there just aren't that many wrestling scholarships out there. 4. Please don't take this the wrong way I agree that a bad call was made. My son is a senior this year and I know all to well how bad a kid feels when he has done everything he needs to do to win only to have that win taken away because of a bad call. 5. Again my opinion has nothing to do with Davis or Sanders. I have come to the conclusion that the best thing that can happen as a result of all this is that the TSSAA will allow some type of review process for next year ,but leave things as they are for this year.
  6. My opinion on this matter has nothing to do with Bond Davis or Luke Sanders; I think both wrestlers are outstanding athletes and on any given day either one could have been state champ. My fear is that if this "missed call" by the official is overturned where will this all end? Will every bad call caught on tape be overturned? Even if Davis is named co-champ what does that resolve? Does it diminish Sanders Championship? Matches are won and lost ALL the time because of missed or bad calls. I do think that it evens out over the long term. My guess is that Bond Davis has won matches in the past that probably should have gone the other way but because of a missed or bad call he won. Luke Sanders got a break in a huge match, but even after getting that break Bond Davis had an opportunity to win the state championship on the mat. Luke Sanders won the match on the mat. I don't think that should be changed.
  7. Hamm you could always post your predictions on this board?
  8. Jenkins is from M.L. King not Overton. He's agressive.
  9. I think at 160 you have to go with either Jenkins or Adcox to face Gibson in the finals because of the way the brackets fell. Jenkins has only lost four matches over the last 2 years with his only losses to State Medalists. Last year at 152 He lost to Josh Bennett in overtime 5-3 (Ironic that his only loss this year happened at the same place)at the Hillwood Tournament. At the State Tournament last year he lost to Dustin Catlett 6-1 and again to Josh Bennett 4-1. This year his only loss was in the finals at Hillwood to Josh Johnson, (Jenkins beat Johnson @ Harpeth and in the region 6 finals.) He had the flu and did not wrestle in the finals at McGavock against Jake Graham From what I've heard Adcox is pretty darn good as well( I've never seen him wrestle) If Jake Graham or Nate williams were in the bottom half of the bracket and Adcox and Jenkins were in the top, I would say Gibson vs. one of those guys But it will definately be Gibson vs. someone.
  10. I have to agree, AWESOME Job by everyone involved. Matches on time;Good Ref's(Really!) and Great wrestling. The website with all the results and other information is outstanding! The folks at Whites Creek really put on a first class tournament.
  11. What happened to Nate Williams? I see he defaulted to Haggard then came back to take third was he injured or what??
  12. There were five state medalist's last year in region 6 Ibrahim (Overton) -1st @ 112 Sanders (FRA) 5th @ 125 (graduated) Drinkwine (Overton) 2nd @ 135 (graduated) Littlejohn (Mcgavock) 6th @ 152 (quit wrestling) Pack Mcgavock) 5th @ 160 (graduated) Anyone that makes it to the state tournament has achieved something special. I think there are seven kids from this region (just my opinion) that have a pretty good shot of medaling at state. Devon Martin @103(Maplewood), Ari Ibriham @119(Overton), Josh Johnson @160(Antioch), Kenny Jenkins @160(MLK), Adam Valentine @171 (Lipscomb), David Vanderloop @171 (Hillsboro), and Taylor Layman @275 (FRA) I'm sure there are a couple more that I have overlooked but these are guys that I have seen this year that have impressed me the most. I have only seen Overton once this year and really don't know much about them; If Darnell Hayes has continued to progress as he did last year I would say he would be another likely medalist.
  13. I believe MLK and Antioch wrestle next week. Johnson and Jenkins should have one more match before regions. As far as the state medals go, both guys have the talent to bring home a medal. If Johnson wins the region he will probably get the two seed at state putting him on the other side of the bracket from Gibson giving him a good shot at second. If Jenkins wins and they set the brackets like they did last year Jenkins will be the first #1 seed to see Gibson (see Tim Pack @ 160 last year) making a second place medal pretty much impossible. Both guys are good; but there are a lot of good wrestlers in the weight class, and 2 through 6 are pretty wide open but I think that Gibson is by far the class of the field.
  14. Hamm ; I think you do a fine job. I have a question about the D-1 Rankings @ 160 this week. In your rankings you show Williams by tech fall over Johnson however the results on the Brentwood website show the score as 11-2. Which score is correct?
