Calling individual wrestlers or their parents is a sure-fire way to get the team 'you' want but setting up a booth at the state championship and contacting each of the HS coaches seems to be a better way to get the word out to potentially more wrestlers.
Calling certain wrestlers is basically a 'select' team. If we want to form a state all-star team then I suggest awarding an invitation to each of the state medalists along with their medals inviting them to participate in the one of the sponsored Team TN all-star dual teams. Hopefully enough would be interested to send multiple teams. Wrestle off for the first team spots at the end of the training before leaving for the tournament. State medalists could then leave the podium with their medal and invitation to represent Team TN.
IMO this says more about the coaching staff that committed the 'error' than it does the coaching staff that didn't report the error in a timely fashion. Seems like the Summit coaches are the ones catching all of the heat on this board while the more relevant issue is being ignored. Was this simply a clerical issue?
Stalling has been a serious issue in TN wrestling for a while. Especially on bottom, can't tell you how many times I've watched a wrestler lay on bottom for the majority of the match making no effort to improve his position while the top guy constantly works for a turn just to be called for stalling himself. The wrestlers use this strategy all the time even at state and the refs allow it.
Some neighboring states do not allow forfeits at region or state duals, if you have wrestlers at that weight they must wrestle. Prevents teams from forfeiting at weights they expect to be pinned. In a tie breaker number of pins can decide the dual.
WC has gotten respect for being a state finalist three years in a row, no doubt. EVERYBODY had BC and WC ranked over CHS most of the season, glad to see Cleveland finish at the top once again. Great job to Yost and staff and all of the Blue Raider Wrestlers!
The last week or so I felt like WC matched up with BC better than they do with CHS. All three teams are very close this year and since the first CHS/BC match this season it seemed to me as though BC may have peaked a little too soon. I still think CHS edges WC in the finals. Congrats to both teams for making the finals three years in a row!
