I'm going to carry off of BPM's post about how EH shaped SGC and this one as well.
SGC 10-0 schedule was my sophomore year of high school. It was amazing. But, in hindsight, they did not play the toughest schedule. We (though I am not in the Medina community anymore since we are in past tense I will use we) avoided Covington and Dyersburg in a 10 team district. The three non-district games were West Carroll, JCS and TCA. Probably cant fault the Hornets for that though. It is there first varsity schedule as a program, so its a big risk to go schedule eight win teams each week.
After losing to EH, SGC took a much tougher rout. The new district meant playing a full district schedule, and the idea was to have SGC battle tested by the first round of the playoffs. The schedule:
Camden
Chester Co.
Westview
TCA (Kyle Akin era)
Obion County
Milan
USJ
Crockett County (Johnny Jones era)
Northside
Dyersburg
(These were the two losing seasons for SGC)
The 2013 team played Northside real close 28-24 and reached the playoffs to play Hickman County. If I recall Airan Reed was not available for the game.
The 2014 team went 2-8, wins over Obion County and USJ. Four losses (at Camden, at Chester Co., Westview and Milan) were all by one possession (one possession from 6-4 and a playoff spot)
We had to bad losses that season (to senior Kyle Akin/TCA and senior Johnny Jones/Crockett Co.)
Nine opponents from that 2014 team made the playoffs. six made the second round and two to past that. Most of those teams were eliminated by another team that SGC played
I jokingly tell people that that was the best 2-8 team in the state, but in all seriousness it probably was.
My point is, even when SGC had a bad record they were still a good team, searching for an identity and something to prove, but a tough opponent.
M.O.M. mentioned earlier that SGC lacked athletes on paper, but made up for it with work ethic, fight and good coaching. That was the identity of the SGC teams back to 2011. the 2012 team (to my knowledge) had the most athletes of a Hornet team (as well as a very big line).

Also, Nick Newsome (former Dyersburg and APSU football player) was an assistant on that SGC team. He is a grad assistant at Georgia Tech now
