  1. Coach Brooks, With all due respect, while I have agreed with you many times over the past few years, there seem to be some big changes going on at the CPA campus in regards to sports, and their importance, under this newer administration. For the better in my opinion. While, I don't believe football ever really recruited, they no longer appear to be bringing in BB players either. They are also doing a really good job at teaching the kids about things that really matter in life, in regards to their mission, and none of those lessons have anything to do with a ball. Or winning a game. Here's the latest: http://www.cnn.com/2016/09/12/health/students-teacher-cancer-sing-trnd/
  2. Why is Drew Maddux being considered for the Vanderbilt job, as someone who can land good recruits, if he never recruited at CPA? Is Drew Maddux a consideration? Maddux, a former All-SEC star player at Vanderbilt, is an exceptional coach at Christ Presbyterian Academy, and he’s produced some standout players. But would Vanderbilt consider looking at a high school coach, even if he’s a fan favorite and a former player? Athletics Director David Williams said Vanderbilt wants someone with head coaching experience, but not necessarily "isolated to college experience." The more likely scenario might be that Wade is hired as head coach, and he pegs Maddux as an assistant who can land prime recruits. http://www.tennessean.com/story/sports/college/vanderbilt/2016/03/28/5-questions-vanderbilt-coach-search/82341934/
  3. There has never been enough proof for the TSSAA to do anything, but anyone who follows this team knows it's different this year. There’s a stark contrast between the 2015-16 Christ Presbyterian Academy boys basketball team and those that recently preceded it. Gone are Jalen Lindsey, Braxton (Blackwell) Key, Craig Bradshaw, Braxton Bonds and Tyger Campbell. With them went a nightly highlight reel and the buzz of some of the top Division I programs in the country checking out potential recruits. What hasn’t left the CPA program, however, is success. http://www.tennessean.com/story/sports/2016/02/11/cpa-boys-lose-stars-but-win-teamwork-3-pointers/80216530/ BTW, what's up with the questions about the Goodpasture connections? Because they recruit? Where do you think Drew learned it? Too bad for him, it came back to bite him. Bu
  4. It has certainly been refreshing to have a real school team in CPA uniforms this year. I would have loved to have seen them go farther, but if this trend continues, and they once again have more upperclassmen playing, I believe they will in the future. Even RBA the former headmaster commented on a recent instagram photo "I've never enjoyed watching a team, or a player, as much as *%$&, and his 2015-16 Lions. And remember: I've seen 'em ALL!" Kind of makes you go, hmmmm...

Congrats CPA and Coach M. I've been saying for years, that you don't need all those AAU recruits, especially the D1 (JuCo) recruits! So happy to see you winning according to the school's mission!
  6. When was Cascade ranked 5th in state? The year CPA was 1st?
  7. I agree. Would have preferred they come clean, and acknowledged that they did wrong years ago, before so much damage was done to the school's reputation. Let's hope going forward they will continue to do the right thing. Then maybe they will have more upperclassmen playing in the future as well. It's been obvious for years, that there are enough talented athletes at CPA to field a decent basketball team. Even without the red-shirting and graduating 19 year olds...
  8. Care to elaborate on "getting burned by the dark side of AAU may have caused the sudden change of heart"?
  9. We can see for ourselves that you CANNOT quote him saying what you claim he says. The numbers of wins/losses so far this season speak for themselves, and have nothing to do with anything anyone says. It's the first year since Jaylen Lindsey was in 8th grade, that Maddux hasn't had any star recruits. As I've said before, I'm glad they are a school team, and not an AAU team, in CPA uniforms. I'd love to know why all of a sudden things changed. The basketball crowd at CPA seems to be having a hard time with losing. I mean learning...
  10. Looks like they are losing as many games as they are winning this year. Had almost as many losses already, compared to whole past seasons when Maddux' had his D-1 recruits playing...
  11. The tendency is to only tweet the wins. Though while losing at their own tournament, there was this from Maddux: We're either winning or learning. It's not winning or losing, it's winning or learning. – John Calipari
  12. Honestly, what do you want me to say? Drew's been there 10 years, recruited for 9 of them. All those D-1 dreams he built. For what? To all of a sudden decide to play by the rules? There has to be a reason. btw, why are you still hanging around? You've made your last post here haven't you? Don't you have a juco team to follow now?
  13. Looks like CPA is still playing the same type of "game" this year, just on the other side of the scoreboard.
  14. I am very happy to see that they are a school team, and not an AAU or recruited team this year. Not sure why it's changed up, whether Maddux knew he was about to get busted, the administration made him stop recruiting, or the parents who housed prior superstars, or paid their tuition, realized their own kids could play more, if they stopped doing that. Whatever the reason, they now appear to play with the same standards the rest of the athletic teams at CPA do. As it should be, and always should have been. And they still win. Imagine that...
  15. Time will tell...whether they win or lose, I am happy that this current team appears to be comprised of students who chose CPA for school, as opposed to for the BB experience. Still can't help but wonder why there weren't any big transfers in this year. I just hope the coach's ego can handle more losses, and he won't take it out on the kids. I know it certainly won't bother me much to see him pacing and yelling at refs when he's losing, as it did when they were up by 30+ and the starters were still in. I think many of transfers of the past who came in 8th grade or earlier, certainly used Drew's system to their advantage and got 5 years of HS play. Whatever the outcome, it will be interesting to watch it play out.
  16. Once again, sadly, the integrity of the footbal program is being called into question because of their success, and the fact that none of the underlined statements above could be made about CPA's boys basketball team since Maddux has been there.
  17. CPA sent out a letter the day of the vote saying they had no say in the decision, but "we are accountable for our approach moving forward." It's too bad they haven't held themselves accountable already, at least in regards to the BB team. Maybe the vote wouldn't have taken place.... Drew's twitter comment that day was: In the end, what your own troops do is more important than who they are marching against. -Don Meyer Kind of sounds to me like he plans to keep doing what he's been doing, regardless of where they play. 6 retweets6 favorites Reply Retweet Fa
  18. Maybe now we will find out what kind of coach he really is, if he has to play with the kids he's given, instead of the ones he recruits. Of course, the season hasn't started yet, so he still has time to bring in another superstar or 5.
  19. Well, you might want to check your sources if someone is telling you that Maddux is developing talent from the current student body at CPA. That is what all other sports do, but Basketball is it's only little program, and does not follow the same pattern. He is constantly on the hunt for new and upcoming talent through all the various AAU/Nike Elite/3 on 3 leagues, etc. All other coaches focus on current students. Other sports, when accused of recruiting can produce a roster, that shows the majority of Varsity players are long time CPA students. BB cannot do that. There is a long history of talent coming into the school for BB over the years that Maddux has been there, Lindsey, Blackwell, Bonds, Mason, Alsmiller, Richard, Wharton, Campbell, Bradshaw, Ragsdale---all came in 8th grade or later. Current and upcoming players know there are always plans for kids to come in. There is already talk of a couple from BA (they were actually invited to sit the bench for an inside look at one game) and possibly a kid from AZ. He is known for his recruiting all over, and applauded for it by many. Often that is the argument given when people talk about why he should be hired for various college coaching positions that open up. UT being the most recent.
  20. Whoops, my bad, you're right, he was there in 10th. Dad was given a job at CPA that year. Then when they left, he was quoted in paper as saying he had to pull his daughter from CPA as well, because he couldn't afford it. Even though he went to a larger public school, which supposedly pays more, and there was no tuition for Vic--but I digress. Just some things seem to support accusations that can never be proven over the years.
  21. They may no longer be a super team, but Maddux is still a super recruiter. The pattern will continue until he is caught. Time will tell if the rumors about the Arizona kid, and BA kid are true. His MS coach is even bold enough to let other school's players sit the bench at a game, and get an inside look. They obviously think they are above the rules. Look at the list of questionable transfers he's had over the years. And yet he still can't guarantee the gold ball... Richard 8th Bonds 8th Lindsey 8th Allsmiller 8th Wharton 8th Blackwell 8th Fitzgerald 6th (nationally ranked point guard, left CPA when Campbell came) Campbell 8th Ragsdale 8th Bradshaw 11th
  22. I totally agree. I'm glad to see the coach's poor sportsmanship isn't always reflected in his players. Congrats Braxton.
  23. And that is what makes this all so sad. If CPA basketball would produce a roster, like CPA football does, and prove that they are playing with the students they have, the talk would stop. Just like it does with football. But, they can't do that. Because BB is run different than FB, and the rest of the sports. BB is not a sport that is developed within the school, from 5th grade on. BB summer sports camps are the only camps that are AAU. The current MS players know that they most likely won't be playing in HS, because there will be new players coming in. It's even thrown in their face when players from other schools are allowed to sit on their bench to "observe". Of course, nobody with information is going to come forward and be honest. The people with the facts have too much to lose. Parents and players not only want the state ring, but the opportunity for exposure for playing beyond HS. Others could lose their jobs. Not to mention the drama that would unfold for any whistleblower. It's terribly unfortunate that the administration cannot see through this, and step in and stop it. It's a "Good ole' Boys network" there for sure. If you try to question any of them, on anything, there is a wall of defense and denial. So much pride and arrogance. Even the old headmaster is still involved, and walking in the Lion walk, and riding the team bus. They just say, "we are going to be forced to move again.' as if there is nothing they can do. They are just the victims of haters because they win. They can't se that most of the trouble is because of BB. They have some sort of blinders on that they cannot see what is happening. It is very sad that it has been allowed to get to this point. The reputation of the entire school has been affected. Currently the travel to athletic events for all sports is ridiculous considering the location of the school. And who knows what will happen next.
